Kaden Ramos #711 Math 6, per. 2 Anthropometry In math, we studied anthropometry. Anthropometry is the measurement of human bones.

We learned about a woman named Dian France. I learned how to measure people and learned to use formulas to calculate their height. There were 6 teachers, and 15 kids in my class that were in it. We went through 4 days working on this in math. We use math in so many different ways in our life outside of school. To begin, on day one and two we worked on the radius bone. On day one, we watched a video of a woman named Dian France. She studied bones and could figure out how tall

they were or if it was a man or a woman. After the video, we measured our radius and height of everybody in the class. We measured our radius by measuring the crease of our elbow to our wrist. My radius was 8.5, and my height was 63 in. We found the mean (average), median (middle), mode (the most that shows up), and range (high minus low). The mean was 8.3, median 8.5, mode 8.5, and the range 2. On day 2 we made a scatter graph with all of the measurements from everybody in the class. The y-axis was for the height, and the x-axis was for our radius. The green circle was for the boys and the pink circles were for the girls. Then we drew an arrow line through the circles in half. The line was for example if a kid had a radius of six you would go up and where you finger meets the line that was how tall they would be. Next, on day three and four we used the measurements of our tibia, humerus, and radius to

predict height. On the beginning of day 3 we had to find the length of our tibia, and humerus bones to the nearest half inch. The tibia is the inner thicker bone from your knee to the top of your ankle. The humerus is the bone in the upper arm from your shoulder to your elbow. My tibia is 14 in, and my humorous is 11 in. We used these measurements of our tibia and humerus, and put them into a formula to predict height. My predicted radius was 8.5 and my predicted height was 62.5. The formulas that worked best for me were the humerus and, the radius because these predictied heights of 63.5 inches were closest to my actual height of 63 in. On day 4, we took measurements of our teachers radius, height, tibia, and humerus. With the measurements of our teacher, we used the formulas and calculated it. We would see how close it would be to the height. We learned how to use the formulas, and calculations with measurements. We use math in so many different ways in our life outside of school. One of the things that I enjoyed about this project was, learning the formulas for the males and females and what to do with them, and how to calculate them. However, at the same time it was hard using the formulas. One of my most difficult parts of this project was trying to find all of results for the teachers. Some advice that I would give to a forensic scientist would be, to get the measurements from the bones. Then once that is done, use the formulas and calculate it.
