BLACK & WHITE CABS DRIVER TRAINING INFORMATION

DRIVER AUTHORISATION FOR TAXI SERVICES


To drive a taxi in Queensland you must hold a current driver authorisation for taxi services, a licence which is issued by the Department of Transport and Main Roads. To be granted the authorisation, you must lodge an application for driver authorisation (form F2978) in person at your nearest Department of Transport and Main Roads Passenger Transport office. The following requirements must be met: Must be at least 20 years of age. Have entitlement to work in Australia. Must have a current drivers licence held continuously for at least the last three (3) years and an Australian issued drivers licence held continuously for the last twelve (12) months. Must have a satisfactory criminal history record.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads will conduct a federal criminal check once the application for driver authorisation for taxi services has been lodged.

Must be medically fit.


You must also supply the following documents to support your application for driver authorisation. You can apply for your driver authorisation before you commence the driver training course and submit your supporting documents following successful completion of your course.

A current medical certificate for commercial vehicle driving from your local GP

A Queensland Taxi Driver English Assessment letter. A Confirmation of Training Statement for Cert II in Driving Operations (partial) Taxi Cab.

QUEENSLAND TAXI DRIVER ENGLISH ASSESSMENT


All new taxi applicants (regardless of place of birth) who lodge an application for driver authorisation (taxi services) are required to undertake the Queensland Taxi Driver English Assessment and provide a letter endorsed successful to the Department of Transport and Main Roads to support their application for driver authorisation (taxi services). Applicants who have previously held a driver authorisation and it has expired for a period longer than three (3) months will also need to undertake the assessment. Following application approval, Black & White Cabs will provide online assistance to guide you through the training process including enrolment into the Queensland Taxi Driver English Assessment. You will be assessed on the five (5) core skills of listening, reading, writing, speaking and numeracy. MUTUALLY RECOGNISED DRIVER AUTHORISATION FOR TAXI SERVICES GRANTED?


If you are transferring from another taxi company within Australia or New Zealand and have been granted a QLD driver authorisation for taxi services under mutual recognition please contact Driver Recruitment and Training on 3860 1825 for further information.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL)


In order for recognition of prior learning to be considered you will need to supply documented evidence (certificates, statements of attainment and letters of reference) indicating unit/s or competencies previously obtained. This should be lodged with the RPL assessment application (available at Black & White Cabs Reception) to the Fleet Operations Supervisor. The application will be forwarded to Rose Training Australia for consideration. An RPL assessor (Rose Training Australia) will interview you and upon conclusion you will receive one of the following results: Granted a Statement of Attainment will be issued. Not Granted further training is required Further Assessment Needed not enough information gained from the interview. You will need to undergo further testing.

COURSE INFORMATION
The course TLI21210 - Certificate II in Driving Operations/Taxicab (partial completion) is delivered by Black & White Cabs fully qualified trainers. The qualification received from completing this course falls within the Australian Qualification Framework and is nationally recognised. It includes the following seven (7) units: TLIL2060A Complete induction to the Passenger Transport Industry TLII2019A Provide Taxicab customer service to Industry TLIC2009A Drive Taxicab TLIF2072A Comply with safety & security procedures TLIP2037A Carry out financial transactions and maintain records TLIH3004A Identify major roads, services and attractions TLIB2090A Use communication systems in taxicab

After successfully completing the course you will receive a Confirmation of Training Statement which can be used to obtain your provisional driver authorisation for taxi services for a period of six (6) months. After you have the driver authorisation and complete the registration form with Black & White Cabs, you are permitted to start driving. Approximately three (3) months after you register you are required to complete the stage two theory assessments online and submit to Black & White Cabs for approval. Your driver file and the number of in-car hours will be reviewed at this time to support stage two assessments or identify any further training that may be required. If deemed successful, a Statement of Attainment will be issued which can be submitted to the Department of Transport and Main Roads to upgrade the driver authorisation to open.

COURSE FACILITIES
Our training centres are located at both Albion and Coopers Plains. Each centre conducts two (2) day courses and one (1) night course alternately per month. Courses are conducted in air conditioned training rooms where trainers can simulate in-car conditions with identical equipment to that found in a Black & White Cab. Training will also consist of a simulated driving assessment and orientation tour of the Brisbane Metropolitan Taxi District in a taxi.

COURSE SCHEDULES
Day courses run over a period of one (1) week. Monday + Tuesday + Wednesday + Thursday + Friday Night courses run over a period of two (2) weeks. Week One: Monday + Tuesday + Wednesday + Thursday 5:00pm 10:00pm plus Saturday 12:00noon 4:00pm plus Week Two: Monday + Tuesday + Wednesday (week two) 5:00pm 10:00pm 8:00am 4:30pm.

ALBION TRAINING CENTRE


The Albion Training Centre is located at 27 Nariel Street Albion. For driving directions please refer to your Brisbane Street Directory. By Train - Get off at Albion Train Station and walk southeast on Mawarra Street toward Albion Road. Turn right at Albion road. Turn left at McDonald Rd. Turn left at Albion Over-Pass. Turn right at Sandgate Road. Turn left on Wallace Street. Turn right on Nariel Street.

COOPERS PLAINS TRAINING CENTRE


The Coopers Plains Training Centre is located at 45 Rosedale Street Coopers Plains. For driving directions please refer to your Brisbane Street Directory. By Train - Get off at Coopers Plains Station and walk out to Henley Street. Follow this street and you will reach a roundabout. Turn right on Rosedale Street.

WHAT TO TAKE WITH YOU


All course materials will be provided on the first day of your course. You should bring your driver licence for identification, a pen and preferably a current Brisbane street directory. Tea and coffee are provided and lunch room facilities are available. Both locations are close to many food outlets.

PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING A QUEENSLAND DRIVER AUTHORISATON FOR TAXI SERVICES


1. Attend your nearest Department of Transport and Main Roads Passenger Transport office and apply for a Drivers Authorisation (Form 2978). The cost of lodgement for new applications is currently $34.05. You will also need to pay the cost of taking out a Provisional Authorisation for a period of 6 months. Total cost including the criminal check is $123.35. 2. Obtain a current Private and Commercial Vehicle Drivers Health Assessment (form 3195) and Medical Certificate for Motor Vehicle Driver (F3712) from your local GP. 3. Go to www.blackandwhitecabs.com.au and click on careers section. Select Becoming a Driver - apply now and submit your application. We will contact you shortly after to confirm your application has been approved. Make your Queensland Taxi Driver English assessment payment. The cost of the assessment is $90 and payable before enrolment. Remember to write down your payment reference number. You will need to provide it when enrolling. 4. After payment has been received you will be provided with a personal log on to enrol into the Queensland Taxi Driver English Assessment. Assessments are available at three (3) locations between 9am and 3.30pm weekdays. Assessments are no longer than 1 hour. You will receive a confirmation email containing booking details after your enrolment is complete. 5. Attend your English Assessment. You will be advised of your result following completion of the assessment and your result letter will be sent to your postal address within two (2) working days. An email will also be sent to you from Black & White Cabs confirming your successful completion. 6. Make your Driver Training Course payment. The cost of the Driver Training course is $495.00 and payable before enrolment. All payments can be made via Electronic Funds Transfer to: Commonwealth Bank of Australia BSB 064 001 ACCOUNT NUMBER: 10041586 REFERENCE NUMBER: YOUR FULL NAME Remember to write down your payment reference number. You will need to provide it when enrolling.

7. After payment has been received you will be provided with a personal log on to enrol into the Driver Training course. You will receive a confirmation email containing booking details after enrolment is complete. 8. Attend your booked Driver Training Course. An email will also be sent to you advising your result after completion of in-class stage one assessments. If successful a Confirmation of Training document will be sent to your postal address. This document does not indicate successful completion of the course. To be deemed competent you will be required to complete a stage two theory assessment and show a satisfactory on-the-job driver record. All stage two assessments are completed approximately 3 months after you begin driving. 9. Supply the Department of Transport and Main Roads your Confirmation of Training let ter to support your application for driver authorisation for taxi services. 10. Collect your provisional driver authorisation letter for taxi services after you receive confirmation of approval from the Department of Transport and Main Roads. 11. Complete an affiliation (driver registration form) and obtain a list of current vacancies. The email received after in-class stage one assessments will contain your personal log on to complete this form online and receive the driver vacancy list. 12. Approximately three (3) months after you commence driving you will be notified that you need to complete stage two theory assessments. You will be notified when this is required via your personal email and the taxi dispatch system. Simply complete the online assessment and submit to the Fleet Operations Supervisor for approval. Your driver record and number of driving hours will be reviewed. If satisfactory you will be issued with a Statement of Attainment for Certificate II in Driving Operations Taxi cab (partial). 13. Supply the Department of Transport and Main Roads with your Statement of Attainment to obtain your full (open) driver authorisation for taxi services. 14. Update your affiliation online with the new driver authorisation for taxi services expiry date.
An email will also be sent to you from Black & White Cabs following your successful completion of stage two assessments and you will be provided with a personal log on and instructions to update your affiliation with Black & White Cabs.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS


HOW WILL I BE PAID? Usually you will receive a percentage of the earnings (after GST) of the taxi for a shift. You get paid at the end of each shift. The industry standard is 50% to the driver and 50% to the operator of the taxi and each party pays for half of the fuel, although other arrangements are possible. WILL I NEED AN AUSTRALIAN BUSINESS NUMBER? (ABN) Yes you will. Assistance will be given during the course on applying for this number with the Australian Tax Office; alternatively you can go to http://www.abr.gov.au/ABR_BC/ HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN MY DRIVER AUTHORISATION FOR TAXI SERVICES APPLICATION HAS BEEN APPROVED? The Department of Transport and Main Roads will send you a letter in the mail when your application for driver authorisation has been approved. HOW SOON AFTER I SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE COURSE CAN I START WORKING? As soon as you obtain your Driver Authorisation (DA) from the Department of Transport and Main Roads and complete the Driver Affiliation Form with Black & White Cabs. HOW DO I FIND SOMEONE TO DRIVE FOR? A list of all current operators looking for driver can be located at www.blackandwhitecabs.com.au under For Our Fleet or you can attend Black & White Cabs at 11 Dryandra Road, Brisbane Airport in person. A list of current Driver Vacancies is available at the Reception counter. WHERE DO I HAVE TO GO TO PICK UP A TAXI WHEN I COMMENCE DRIVING? Black & White Cabs Owner/Operators are spread out throughout the Brisbane Taxi District there is not one central point. The Brisbane Taxi District extends from Caboolture in the North to Ormeau in the South and West to Camira near Ipswich. CAN I WORK IN MY LOCAL AREA? Yes you can. The computerised dispatch system allows you to define the area you want to work in.
