FIRST YEAR (First Semester)

PERSONS AND FAMILY RELATIONS 4 Units A basic course on the law of persons and family relations as contained in the Preliminary and Human Relations Chapter of the Civil Code of the Philippines, the Family Code, the Local Adoption Code and the Inter-Country Adoption Act. The subject covers the laws on marriage, property relations between spouses, paternity and filiation, support and emancipation, including the rules on funerals, surnames, absences and the Civil registry. CONSTITUTIONAL LAW 1 3 Units A comprehensive survey and evaluation of basic principles contained in the Philippine Constitution dealing with the structure of the Philippines Government, including amendments to and provisions of the Constitution. CRIMINAL LAW 1 4 Units A course that deals with the study of the characteristics of criminal law, the nature and classification of felonies, their stages of execution, circumstances affecting criminal liability, persons criminally liable, extinction of criminal liability and the civil liability of the offender. The course covers Book One of the Revised Penal Code and pertinent laws. STATUTORY CONSTRUCTION 2 Units A course that explores the method of construction and interpretation of statutes as well as the significance of statutes for effective governance. LEGAL RESEARCH 2 Units This course is an introduction to the methodology of legal research. It includes actual case digests and preparation of legal opinions and memoranda. LEGAL ETHICS 1 2 Units A course that focuses on the core principles and canons of legal ethics involving the duties and responsibilities of lawyers with respect to the client, the court, the bar and the public. SSC-R SEMINAR 1 1 Unit A study of the history of the Order of the Augustinian Recollects and the aim of the Order as an educational institutions; the philosophical teachings of Saint Augustine and other Church Philosophers, and; the teachings of the Catholic Church on contemporary moral and social issues.

FIRST YEAR Second Semester


OBLIGATIONS AND CONTRACTS 5 Units A comprehensive study of the nature, kinds and effects of obligation, and their extinguishment. This course also deals with contracts in general, their requisites, form and interpretation as well as defective contracts, including quasicontracts natural obligations and estoppel. CONSTITUTIONAL LAW 2 3 Units An in-depth study of the Constitution with emphasis on the Bill of Rights and jurisprudence relative thereto. It also deals with citizenship. CRIMINAL LAW 2 3 Units A study of crimes and penalties, their nature and theories, classes, manner of computation, complex crimes, habitual delinquency, juvenile delinquency, Intermediate Sentence Law and Probation Law. The course covers Book II of the Revised Penal Code. LOCAL GOVERNMENT 2 Units A study of general principles governing local government units as provided by the Local Government Code of 1991, their creation, organization, and powers. It also covers pertinent jurisprudence on the matter. ADMINISTRATIVE LAW 2 Units The course deals with the development and the application of principles and doctrines governing administrative agencies with rule-making and adjudicative functions. ELECTION LAW 2 Units A study of the prevailing laws, rules and regulations relative to the conduct of elections including procedures in settling election. LEGAL ETHICS 2 (Problem Areas in Legal Ethics) 3 Units An intensive and in-depth analysis of jurisprudence affecting legal and judicial ethics with emphasis on acts violative of the Code of Professional Responsibility, the Canons of Professional Ethics and the canons of Judicial Ethics.
