Weekly Outline:
Activity session subject : Vocabulary: Duck/duckling; hen/chick; cat/kitten; dog/puppy; frog/tadpole; kangaroo/joey; horse/foal; bear/cub; sheep/lamb; deer/fawn; bird/nestling; pig/piglet am, are, is. Grammar: Use the correct form of the verb 'to be', such as I am, you are. Use a full sentence to name an animal and their young i.e. a puppy is a baby dog. Students can identify different animal sounds and can say 'a cat meows' etc. Activities: This week students will learn about various animals and their young. Students will learn using games and flashcards and worksheets which all focus on vocab, pronunciation and spelling. Students will make paper mache masks for their chosen animal and will decorate them. Students will help to make the rewards board which will consist of individual hot air balloons that will move across the classroom acording to good marks received.

Songs : Learn and practise Old McDonald had a farm. Sing 'London Bridge' and 'Head, shoulder, knees and toes.' Games: Stop the songtaew-5 teams compete to name 5 words from a chosen letter. The 1st team to get five words and spells them correctly wins. What time is it Mr. Wolf?-students creep upon the 'wolf' by asking what time is it? Practises time telling and numbers. Hangman-students guess letters to spell a word on the board. Word splat-2 teams of students race to the board to hit the letter that the teacher calls out. 1 point goes to the student who can touch the letter 1st and 1 point to the team that can guess the word that is being spelled.

Phonics This week we will continue to work on the phonic sounds an, am, in, on, un and ox. The students will be able to recognise the sound and also make, spell and pronounce words constructed from these letter pairs such as man, jam, tin, run and fox. A spelling and pronunciation test will be conducted at the end of the week to check the students understanding. Games: Splat.2 teams compete to spell out words by swatting flashcards on the floor. A point goes to the 1st student to complete the spelling. alphabet relay. 2 teams again compete to finish the lower case alphabet. Each student will write a letter on the board then pass the marker to the next student who continues with the next letter in the alphabet order. Show students a flashcard of a letter and ask them to provide a word that begins with it, then see if they can spell it phonetically.

Review This week we will continue to review and practice greetings and introductions as they are used on a daily basis. We will continue to focus on the calendar and weather chart to help students to understand the days of the week, the date and to describe the daily weather. Continue to review emotions such as sad, angry and sleepy and encourage students to use a full sentence such as today I feel happy. Review the verb 'to be,' focusing on the using the correct form of the verb, i.e. I am, she is, we are.

Notes / parent follow up: Have fun with your child by singing Old McDonald had a farm with them. Also ask them what are the various noises that the animals they have learned about make, such as a pig = oink oink. Help your child to revise for the spelling and pronunciation test on Friday. Sometimes the students will not pronounce the last letter of certain words or use an 's' to signify plurals. Please help them with this if possible. Thanks.
