"Passion is the key to research. It is the passion for science and discovery that motivates scientists to persevere. Scientists are also motivated by the broader purpose of their efforts. Whether it is to seek a better cure for a disease; to improve human health; to enhance our quality of life; or to tackle global challenges; this desire to make a difference and to have an impact are usually the ideals that inspire young people into science and discovery and sustains the commitment of those who are already engaged."

With continued efforts to develop Singapore as an R&D hub, exciting times lie ahead for scientific research in Singapore and I want to be part of it. A major pull factor to apply for AGS was the opportunity to carry out up to 2 years of post-doctoral training overseas to gain exposure, as well as new skills and knowledge which complements the basics acquired during PhD training. The AIP PhD Programme has provided me with the opportunity to work with top researchers from Imperial College London while maintaining links with researchers back in Singapore. This has also provided me with an insight of the different environments in Imperial Infocomm research College
