Mickey Mouse, Goofy and the
rest of the gang werent the only
ones entertaining patrons at Dis-
ney World on May 30.
The Golden Eagles Marching
Band was performing down Main
Street right along with them.
Every two years, the band from
Seneca High School takes a trip
as a team and this year it chose
Disney World.
The opportunity to march
down Main Street was given to
us, and all the kids were really ex-
cited about it, band president
Kim Brown said.
Seventy-nine members of the
band made the trip. The group
flew down together on Wednes-
day, May 29 and performed the
next day at 2:30 p.m. under the di-
rection of Keith Styers.
The performance went really
well, Brown said. All the kids
had a great time and really had a
lot of fun performing on that big
of a stage.
The trip was well deserved
after a successful year with a dif-
ficult theme.
They had a great year,
Brown said. The theme they
chose was really difficult and
they did an awesome job with it.

ring with a match acted out by
the color guard.
The Golden Eagles performed
at the USBands National Cham-
pionships in East Rutherford ear-
lier this season, competing in the
3A division and finishing in sev-
enth place overall.
USBands uses a classification
system based on group and class
designations to make sure bands
of similar size, style and experi-
ence are grouped together to
compete. A tier-based system is
utilized where each competitive
class is judged on a separate scale
that reflects the expected level of
proficiency. Class A bands are
judged on a scale with fundamen-
tal to intermediate skills.
The Golden Eagles have had a
lot of contributions from their
senior class, making this trip pos-
sible. A majority of the seniors
have been members of the Gold-
en Eagles marching band all four
years. All are section leaders and
drum majors.
After their performance, the
band stayed in Florida for anoth-
er three nights, enjoying the trip
that was two years in the making.
They were scheduled to fly back
on Sunday, June 2, just in time to
be back in class Monday morn-
ing.

AmeriCorps team recognized
at committee meeting

The Tabernacle Township
Committee recognized Ameri-
Corps NCCC Team Moose 2 at a
meeting on May 28.
AmeriCorps had partnered
with Col. William C. Lowe and the
Office of Emergency Manage-
ment to help educate residents on
what to do in the event of an
emergency. The Office of Emer-
gency Management was estab-
lished to assist and provide serv-
ices necessary to the safety of res-
idents.
Beginning May 12, Team
Moose 2 visited every residence
in Tabernacle to distribute pack-
ets of information for families to
use when preparing for an emer-
gency. Included in the packet was
a letter explaining how to enroll
the household in the emergency
notification system, as well as the
recently proposed wildfire protec-
tion plan. The notification system
is an automated directory that
contacts residents by phone,
alerting them of an emergency.
The team encouraged commu-
nity members to prioritize mak-
ing a family emergency prepared-
ness plan. Individuals and fami-
lies were also given a checklist of
provisions to put in an emer-
gency preparedness kit. Items in-
clude enough water for 72 hours,
medications that are regularly
taken, as well as blankets and
flashlights.
Lowe said that awareness is the
biggest key in preparing the com-
munity for an emergency.

T
he unofficial start of summer
has come and gone. With Me-
morial Day weekend in the
rearview mirror, the focus now is on
brighter days ahead the beach, the
sun, vacations and relaxation. Presi-
dent Obama and Gov. Christie got in
the spirit last week when they toured
the Jersey Shore to assess the recovery
from Hurricane Sandy.
Even the weather is playing along,
with temperatures in the 90s last week,
and heat advisories being issued
throughout the region.
New Jersey coastal towns are hoping
and praying that the storm or other
outside forces does not affect the
summer season. And all New Jersey
residents should hope for the same, as
the summer Shore business is a huge
part of the states economy a $19 bil-
lion industry, or half of the states total
tourism revenue, according to esti-
mates.
The state is planning to spend $25
million in federal recovery money on
an advertising campaign to attract vis-
itors to the Shore. A campaign,
Stronger Than the Storm, with the
Twitter hashtag #STTS, promotes the
states coast in part by providing guide-
lines and tools for people looking to
plan a New Jersey beach vacation.
A recent AAA survey says that the
Shore will be just fine, as almost 80 per-
cent of people from New Jersey and
the Philadelphia region say that Hurri-
cane Sandy has not affected their sum-
mer travel plans to the Shore.
The proof will be in the pudding,
though, once turnout can be assessed.
So, as we said in this space a few
weeks ago, make sure you travel local
this summer and visit the states won-
derful beaches. Theyre cheap, theyre
close, and theyre a lot of fun.
And while youre doing it, dont for-
get about us, either. Send us your vaca-
tion photos, and well let all your
neighbors know just how much fun
youre having.

Scott receives Visionary Leadership Award
At a recent Burlington County Princi-
pals and Supervisors dinner, Elizabeth
Scott was announced as the recipient of
the 2013 Burlington County Principals and
Supervisors Association Visionary Leader-
ship Award. The BCPSA honored her for
her dedication and commitment as an ex-
emplary professional leader. Scott began
her career with the Burlington Township
Schools as a long-term substitute. Bitten
by the teaching bug, she entered the New
Jersey State Alternate Route program in
1992 and was hired by the Burlington
Township School District as an elementary
school teacher that year. She served in the
classroom and as a guidance counselor.
She became a district supervisor in 1998
and has served as such for 15 years. She
currently supervises social studies, gifted
and talented, and visual and performing
arts. In addition to her curricular respon-
sibilities, she has served as the district
Public Relations Coordinator for the past
seven years.
Scott works with community faith-based
partners and colleagues to facilitate our
Faith Based Roundtable meetings, bring-
ing together faith-based community lead-
ers, school-community members, and
other community key communicators to
build and strengthen partnerships to serve
our students, families, and community.
Scott serves as the vice president of her
local administrator association. She is a
member of the New Jersey Principals and
Supervisors Association, and also main-
tains her membership in professional or-
ganizations specific to her responsibilities,
including National Association for Gifted
Children and the New Jersey School Public
Relations Association.
As a proud member of Burlington Town-
ship Schools, she strives to personally em-
body the districts values of diversity, en-
gagement, community, collaboration and
lifelong learning in pursuit of the district
vision, All Students Achieving!
She is a respected and valued member of
our school community. As public relations
coordinator, she is the first point of contact
for many parents and community mem-
bers.
We know that she feels honored and
blessed to serve the students and families
of Burlington Township, and views her po-
sition as one that allows her to touch the
lives of others and make a difference. Her
Burlington Township pride is deep and she
will always champion a cause that pro-

preparedness exercise that will

community in case of an emer-
gency.
The team was also tasked with
recognizing residents with spe-
cial needs who may need assis-
tance in emergency situations.
Township administrator Doug
Cramer said the registry of those
who need assistance grew from
four to 50 after Team Mooses
awareness campaign.
Team leader Rosslyn Jordan,
Aunesti Dennard, Alicia Spack,
Jaemia Pratt, Bryan Lundholm,
Erik Vancleve and Ben Quimby
make up the team. They stayed at
the Tabernacle Emergency Serv-
ices Building while completing
the project. The team officially
finished the exercise May 29 and
departed on May 30.
In addition to going door-to-
door, Team Moose 2 partnered
with the Tabernacle Historical
Society in the continued restora-
tion of The Pepper-Knight House
on Carranza Road. They also
helped carry the flag in the town-
ships Memorial Day parade.
The committee would like to
take this opportunity to thank
AmeriCorps NCCC Team Moose 2
and recognize their efforts in
serving this community and its
residents and wish them well as
they continue future endeavors,
Mayor Stephen Lee said.
In other news:
The committee passed an ordi-
nance that codifies all existing
traffic ordinances. Parking regu-
lations, speed limits, no passing
zones and designated handicap
zones are all listed under one or-
dinance, making enforcement by
the state police much more
streamlined. The traffic engineer
and the committee reviewed both
the new and existing ordinances
before updating.

County college awarded
funds from state for projects
Burlington County College re-
cently announced that it has been
awarded more than $4.5 million
from the state for its proposed
capital and equipment projects.
Gov. Christie and the Secretary
of Higher Education Rochelle
Hendricks announced the list of
the 176 approved higher educa-
tion state-supported bond proj-
ects sent to the Legislature. All of
BCCs projects were among those
approved.
I am very pleased that the col-
lege will be receiving these state
funds for much-needed technolo-
gy upgrades, said Burlington
County Freeholder Director Joe
Donnelly. We look forward to
working with the college to as-
sure that our students have the
latest educational resources to
help them succeed.
To help the college secure the
grant funding from the state, the
Burlington County Board of Cho-
sen Freeholders, under the advice
of Freeholder Director Joe Don-
nelly, agreed to match funds up to
$500,000 for the technology proj-
ects. The projects, which include
the Next Generation Enterprise
Network, Next Generation Educa-
tional Technology Project, and
Center for the Advancement of
Science and Technology, will be
funded through three state-sup-
ported bond programs adminis-
tered by the New Jersey Educa-
tional Facilities Authority and a
match of $500,000 from Burling-
ton County.
BCCs students and professors
will greatly benefit from a more
robust technology infrastructure,
digital classroom technology,
equipment upgrades, and a dedi-
cated space for collaborative
learning, workforce development,
and BCCs growing science, tech-
nology, engineering and math
programs.
BCC received a total of
$4,573,881 from three state-sup-
ported bond programs including
