Mickey Mouse, Goofy and the
rest of the gang werent the only
ones entertaining patrons at Dis-
ney World on May 30.
The Golden Eagles Marching
Band was performing down Main
Street right along with them.
Every two years, the band from
Seneca High School takes a trip
as a team and this year it chose
Disney World.
The opportunity to march
down Main Street was given to
us, and all the kids were really ex-
cited about it, band president
Kim Brown said.
Seventy-nine members of the
band made the trip. The group
flew down together on Wednes-
day, May 29 and performed the
next day at 2:30 p.m. under the di-
rection of Keith Styers.
The performance went really
well, Brown said. All the kids
had a great time and really had a
lot of fun performing on that big
of a stage.
The trip was well deserved
after a successful year with a dif-
ficult theme.
They had a great year,
Brown said. The theme they
chose was really difficult and
they did an awesome job with it.

Band performs at nationals,
finishing in seventh place

seum of Art stairs, and a boxing
ring with a match acted out by
the color guard.
The Golden Eagles performed
at the USBands National Cham-
pionships in East Rutherford ear-
lier this season, competing in the
3A division and finishing in sev-
enth place overall.
USBands uses a classification
system based on group and class
designations to make sure bands
of similar size, style and experi-
ence are grouped together to
compete. A tier-based system is
utilized where each competitive
class is judged on a separate scale
that reflects the expected level of
proficiency. Class A bands are
judged on a scale with fundamen-
tal to intermediate skills.
The Golden Eagles have had a
lot of contributions from their
senior class, making this trip pos-
sible. A majority of the seniors
have been members of the Gold-
en Eagles marching band all four
years. All are section leaders and
drum majors.
After their performance, the
band stayed in Florida for anoth-
er three nights, enjoying the trip
that was two years in the making.
They were scheduled to fly back
on Sunday, June 2, just in time to
be back in class Monday morn-
ing.

Colleges radio station teams
up with the Philadelphia Soul
Burlington County Colleges
radio station WBZC-FM (Z88.9) re-
cently announced its new broad-
casting partnership with the
Philadelphia Soul, the citys
Arena Football League team now
in its eighth season.
WBZC-FM will broadcast all re-
maining six home games, includ-
ing the Veterans Arena Game fea-
turing active reservists and veter-
ans of the Armed Forces after the
Soul game on June 22.
The broadcasts will be live
from the Wells Fargo Center in
Philadelphia.
This new partnership with the
Philadelphia Soul, in addition to
the stations longstanding rela-
tionship with the Camden River-
sharks, gives BCC students the
opportunity to work with profes-
sional sports teams and build
their broadcasting portfolios.
Students learn all aspects of a
professional sports team broad-
cast from production to promo-
tion.
The experience is also a great
resume addition for students
seeking careers in the highly
competitive broadcasting indus-
try.

our new partnership with the
Philadelphia Soul and the oppor-
tunity it affords our students and
the college, said Brett Holcomb,
operations manager and pro-
gramming director of WBZC-FM.

he unofficial start of summer
has come and gone. With Me-
morial Day weekend in the
rearview mirror, the focus now is on
brighter days ahead the beach, the
sun, vacations and relaxation. Presi-
dent Obama and Gov. Christie got in
the spirit last week when they toured
the Jersey Shore to assess the recovery
from Hurricane Sandy.
Even the weather is playing along,
with temperatures in the 90s last week,
and heat advisories being issued
throughout the region.
New Jersey coastal towns are hoping
and praying that the storm or other
outside forces does not affect the
summer season. And all New Jersey
residents should hope for the same, as
the summer Shore business is a huge
part of the states economy a $19 bil-
lion industry, or half of the states total
tourism revenue, according to esti-
mates.
The state is planning to spend $25
million in federal recovery money on
an advertising campaign to attract vis-
itors to the Shore. A campaign,
Stronger Than the Storm, with the
Twitter hashtag #STTS, promotes the
states coast in part by providing guide-
lines and tools for people looking to
plan a New Jersey beach vacation.
A recent AAA survey says that the
Shore will be just fine, as almost 80 per-
cent of people from New Jersey and
the Philadelphia region say that Hurri-
cane Sandy has not affected their sum-
mer travel plans to the Shore.
The proof will be in the pudding,
though, once turnout can be assessed.
So, as we said in this space a few
weeks ago, make sure you travel local
this summer and visit the states won-
derful beaches. Theyre cheap, theyre
close, and theyre a lot of fun.
And while youre doing it, dont for-
get about us, either. Send us your vaca-
tion photos, and well let all your
neighbors know just how much fun
youre having.

Scott receives Visionary Leadership Award
At a recent Burlington County Princi-
pals and Supervisors dinner, Elizabeth
Scott was announced as the recipient of
the 2013 Burlington County Principals and
Supervisors Association Visionary Leader-
ship Award. The BCPSA honored her for
her dedication and commitment as an ex-
emplary professional leader. Scott began
her career with the Burlington Township
Schools as a long-term substitute. Bitten
by the teaching bug, she entered the New
Jersey State Alternate Route program in
1992 and was hired by the Burlington
Township School District as an elementary
school teacher that year. She served in the
classroom and as a guidance counselor.
She became a district supervisor in 1998
and has served as such for 15 years. She
currently supervises social studies, gifted
and talented, and visual and performing
arts. In addition to her curricular respon-
sibilities, she has served as the district
Public Relations Coordinator for the past
seven years.
Scott works with community faith-based
partners and colleagues to facilitate our
Faith Based Roundtable meetings, bring-
ing together faith-based community lead-
ers, school-community members, and
other community key communicators to
build and strengthen partnerships to serve
our students, families, and community.
Scott serves as the vice president of her
local administrator association. She is a
member of the New Jersey Principals and
Supervisors Association, and also main-
tains her membership in professional or-
ganizations specific to her responsibilities,
including National Association for Gifted
Children and the New Jersey School Public
Relations Association.
As a proud member of Burlington Town-
ship Schools, she strives to personally em-
body the districts values of diversity, en-
gagement, community, collaboration and
lifelong learning in pursuit of the district
vision, All Students Achieving!
She is a respected and valued member of
our school community. As public relations
coordinator, she is the first point of contact
for many parents and community mem-
bers.
We know that she feels honored and
blessed to serve the students and families
of Burlington Township, and views her po-
sition as one that allows her to touch the
lives of others and make a difference. Her
Burlington Township pride is deep and she
will always champion a cause that pro-
motes All Students Achieving!
Scott resides in Burlington Township
with her husband and three sons. She is a
daughter to amazing parents and an educa-
tional leader. Family and faith is her core
and she always strives to give a helping

The first year of full-day
kindergarten for students at Indi-
an Mills Elementary School is
coming to close, and the verdict
was presented at Mays Board of
Education meeting.
Weve seen from the last year
that not only have kids responded
well to it, but kids are enjoying it
also, Principal Nicole Moore
said.
There was an adjustment pe-
riod like with anything, but our
students took to it very quickly.
Moore made a presentation
that showed a variety of things
students had worked on through-
out the school year. She high-
lighted the many advantages the
school had seen since moving to a
full day including a consistent
schedule for students, an unhur-
ried school day and the ability to
develop better social relation-
ships.
Giving teachers more time
with students to detect possible
learning disabilities or emotion-
al disorders was discussed as an
added benefit as well.
Weve found that with more
time, education has been expand-
ed and that has been very benefi-
cial for our students, Moore
said.
Interim Superintendent Do-
lores Szymanski had been in dis-
cussion with the elementary
school for months and presented
the change to the board at a meet-
ing in March 2012.
The district adopted an 8:30
a.m. to 3:10 p.m. schedule for the
just completed 2012-13 school
year. More than 70 percent of
New Jersey districts already op-
erate on a full-day kindergarten
schedule.
In other news:
The district will pay Dr.
Edwin Castillo $550 per evalua-
tion, which is a 4.8 percent in-
crease in comparison to last year.
The cost for behavioral consult-
ant, Partners in Learning, also
increased 4.8 percent to $131 per
hour.
The board said that the de-
mand for both services is low and
the increase in price will not be
noticeably felt.
Indian Mills Memorial School
will use a $1,200 donation from
the IMMS Student Council to
purchase security cameras for
the main office.
In addition to that donation,
IMMS will accept $800 from the
National Junior Honor Society to
offset the cost of the new security
systems being installed.
Barbara Quimby was named
Indian Mills Memorial School
teacher of the year, and Mary
Barnes Indian Mills Elementary
teacher of the year.
The 2013-14 school calendar
has been revised to reflect the
first day for students, Friday,
Sept. 6, as early dismissal.
The last day of school is sched-
uled for Wednesday, June 19 and
will be an early dismissal.

Sheriff seeks funds
for safety programs
Burlington County Sheriff
Jean Stanfield is seeking $321,000
in grant funding to support three
county safety programs.
The funding, from the New
Jersey Division of Highway Traf-
fic Safety, will expand Stanfields
Child Passenger Safety Program,
Pedestrian Safety Program and
Comprehensive Traffic Safety
Program.
The safety of Burlington
County residents is our top prior-
ity, Stanfield said. These proj-
ects combine education with
tough multi-jurisdictional en-
forcement.
We anticipate that this will
have a significant impact on traf-
fic safety in our county.
Stanfields Child Passenger
Safety Program is extremely pop-
ular with families who have
small children.
Child Passenger Safety techni-
cians are fully trained and must
recertify every two years in order
to participate in this program.
We have inspected over 10,500
seats since we began this pro-
