Global Warming Many climatologists believe that increasing atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses

released by human activities, such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation, are warming the Earth. The mechanism commonly known as the greenhouse effect is what makes the Earth habitable. These gasses in the atmosphere act like the glass of a greenhouse, letting sunlight in and preventing heat from escaping. Climatic modeling studies generally estimate that global temperatures will rise a few degrees Celsius in the next century. Such a warming is likely to raise sea levels by expanding ocean water and melting glaciers and the polar ice cap. A 2007 E.P.A. report confirmed that the global mean sea level rose up to three milometers per year due to global warming. In 1995, the American Medical Association warned that changes in global temperatures could introduce new infectious diseases. No one knows for certain what the consequences of this predicted climate change will be on the quality of human life, ecosystems, and loss of arable land. Some scientists disagree with the conclusions drawn from global climate models because the effects of clouds have not been factored into the current models.

Short Story On Friendship Long time ago in ancient Greece, there live a man named Socrates, who was highly knowledgeable and an esteemed philosopher. One fine day, a fellow approached him. That person told Socrates that he has some information to tell him about his friend. Before he could even start talking about his friend, Socrates told him to take a test known as the 'Triple Filter Test'. The first test of the 'Triple Filer Test' was the filter of truth. Socrates asked him if the information he had was the truth. The person said that he had just heard it on the way and was not sure if it was the absolute truth. The second filter was that of goodness. He asked if the information was regarding anything good about his friend. The man said it was actually the opposite. The third filter was that of usefulness. Socrates asked if the information was useful to him in any way. The man replied in the negative. Socrates then replied that when the information regarding a friend is not true, good or useful, then why it should be conveyed at all. The moral of the story is that you may always participate in loose gossip, but when it comes to your friends ,it is just not worth it. You know your friends better than others. Therefore, you must avoid talking behind the back of your dearest friends. It only leads to strained relations and shows that you are not reliable or trustworthy as a friend.

lives with joy. When our friends hurt, we're there to soothe. We desire to know the lot about our friends and find out in life that we really need them. Friends are people we commit to; without true friendship life feels very lonely and incomplete.

Friendship Friendship is a feeling of love and affection of one person for another. This feeling of love must be reciprocated. Otherwise friendship cannot be possible. Friendship does not exist where tastes, feelings and sentiments are not similar. The famous essayist Bacon has warned against the friendship between a very rich person and a very poor person. Economic disparity damages friendship. Thus friendship is a feeling of affection between two likeminded persons of uniform status. It is said that a friend in need is a friend in deed. There may be many friends at the time of prosperity. But most of them desert at the time of adversity. We can examine the sincerity of a friend during our time of hardship and trouble. Only a sincere and faithful friend remains with us at the time of our trouble. All others leave us. It is very painful when our friends turn traitors.

Money is an enemy of friendship. Everybody has an attraction for money. When lending or borrowing of money is done between two friends, there is great risk. Friendship may be affected. So it is wise for true friends to avoid monetary transaction. Vanity is another element which breaks friendship. Everybody has self-respect. When a person tries to criticise his friend, their friendship is affected. So friendship must be treated very delicately. Very often some hypocrites pretend to be friends. They are more dangerous than avowed enemies. By telling soft words they bring enormous ruin to us. A true friend never exploits. He rather surrenders. But at present, the meaning of friendship has changed. There are many fair-weathered friends. They terminate their friendly tie as soon as their interests are fulfilled. It is very difficult to find a true friend today. It is better to establish true friendship with either a dog or an elephant. Both these beasts will remain faithful to their human friends. Today, friendship between two persons is short-lived. Good friends exercise good influence. They always help their friends, in distress and inspire them to walk on the right path. But evil friends ruin us completely.

Unity is Strength It is an admitted fact that unity is strength and disunion causes ruin. For example, we may take the case of a cricket or a football team. If the teammates co-operate with each other, they will form a strong team. But if the team members think only about their own success, they will surely lose the game. The same is true with a family or a society or an army or even a nation. Napoleons motto was, Divide and Conquer. He tried to split the armies fighting against him. Then he would overcome them one by one. So a united family, a united community, a united society, a united nation is always strong. But those who are disunited or split up into factions or groups, are all weak and succumb to destruction. United we stand, divided we fall. Punctuality Punctuality is a habit which must be cultivated by every cultured person. It is the mark of culture and civilization. It has been rightly called the soul of businesses. In our daily life, we have to attend to various types of business. This brings us in contact with other people. We hardly realize that in being late, how much annoyance and worry we unnecessarily cause to others. If a man has various duties to attend to, he must be punctual, otherwise his life will be a failure. It is not an easy thing to be punctual. It requires a man all the energy to regulate his life. A man who is punctual and keeps his appointment is sure to be held in high esteem by others.

Smoking is Injurious to Health All of us are aware of the harmful effects of smoking on our health and the environment around us. Each and every part of our body gets affected by smoking. In very simple words we can say that smokers are pushing themselves to death. Tobacco is full of different carcinogenic chemicals. It contains Nicotine which is an addictive drug. These chemicals cause various life threatening conditions such as lung cancer emphysema and cardio-vascular diseases. There are a number of other diseases which are caused by cigarette smoking. Examples are stroke, mouth and throat cancer, ulcer, cancer of the larynx, pulmonary disease, bladder and cervical cancer. There is no way you will lose by giving up smoking and no way you will profit by continuing the habit. School and Society It is known to all that the relation between school and society is very close and integral. We cannot think of a school without a society and on the other hand, a society without school is quite absurd. Therefore, the school should arrange its programs in such a way that they strengthen the relationship between school and society. We know that programs in school must be planned and should be based on the social tradition and principles. So a learner must be acquainted with such experience which is relevant to his or her social life. This acquaintance makes the learner able to solve the social problem and satisfy the social needs. The school must play an active part to relate itself with the society. Society is an ever changing entity. A school has to keep pace with the changing society and to do that the

curriculum should be reviewed regularly keeping in mind the change in social demand and needs. Usefulness of School Magazine School magazines are useful in many ways. Many of the students do not read books other than their textbooks. Their knowledge will not increase if they do not read other books. If we are to write any article for the magazine, we must necessarily read many new books. Thus it widens our knowledge. If a fellow student writes an article for the school magazine, others may be inspired to follow his example. If the students practise writing for the school magazine, their style of writing will be much improved. In this way, many of them may become good writers in future. Thus the school magazine helps in developing the students power of writing as well as thinking. So every school should have a magazine of its own. Self-help Self-help is a great quality which is a gift of God. God helps those who help themselves. We should not depend upon others. Dependence makes us weak and submissive. Self-help begets self-respect in a man. Independent attitude makes a man confident. A man, who does not depend upon others, acquires fame and honour. He acquires faith in himself and hence has faith upon others. Things become easier to him. Such a man is honest and hard-working. Success is his gift from God. He has the power to face the world boldly. Self-help strengthens mind power. The people, who are self-dependent, are prosperous in

life. We, therefore, should try to acquire self-dependency from our early childhood. Uses and Abuses of Mobile Phone The most of us nowadays carry the world in our pocket! It is amazing but true. A mobile phone can make us connected to the rest of the world within a second. Today, mothers do not have to remain in tension if their sons or daughters are late. Businessmen need not have to queue up before a telephone booth to make an important call. Apart from making call and sending SMS, the mobile phone is used as a multipurpose gadget. It is a calculator, time piece, calendar, radio, voice recorder, media player, camera, gaming device, net browser and what not. Though mobile phone is a giant step of technological advancement, its abuses cannot at all be overlooked. Talking or texting while driving may lead to accident. Students misuse this tool in various ways and give way to social pollution. Importance of Time Time and tide wait for nonegoes the proverb. Yet we waste time without thinking its importance. An examinee when hears the warning bell in the examination hall can surely feel its importance. Ticking of the clock is always reminding us that they are going away forever. A particular moment will never return. If we are late, we miss train or bus or any other thing. So we have to be cautious that if we are not aware, we may miss more precious things in life. Time makes a child adult and it is the time which snatches the vital youth from us and thrusts us

towards death. Misuse of time will ultimately lead us to despair and frustration.
