It started when the human beings appeared People moved from one place to another They lived by hunting, fishing and gathering wild plants They used the skin of the animals to cover themselves. They learned to manage the fire Crafstmen made tools and weapons by hitting one stone against another It started when the human beings were able to domesticate animals They started to lived permanently in one place They built up villages They were farmers, learned to cultivate plants They built monuments: menhirs and dolmens Craftsmen made polished stone tools and weapons They made pots and cloth It started when they were able to work with metals (7.000 years ago) The wheel and the plough were invented Craftsmen made metal Tools, weapons and jewellery

The first artist cave paintings were painted on cave walls and ceilings. E.g. Altamira in Cantabria

Pre-roman times The peninsula was inhabited by: Iberian and Celtic tribes, later, Phoenicians, Greeks and Carthaginians

The romans defeated the Carthaginians and conquered the Iberian peninsula The peninsula was called Hispania The conquered tribes adopted the Roman customs and spoke latin Important peopled from Hispania: Seneca (philosopher), Trajan and Hadrian (emperors) Hispania was Roman for 600 years In the 400 A.D., the Visigothic defeated the romans They founded Tarraco, Sagunto and Hispalis The cities had 2 main streets The cities had a forum: a large public square for celebrations They built roads, that connected the different cities Temples For religious purposes
