International Sugar Organisation executive director, Dr Peter Baron receives a bowl of kava as the Prime Minister and Minister for Sugar, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama looks on at the welcome ceremony of the International Sugar Organisations 43rd Council Session. The meeting officially opened Tuesday at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa on Denarau Island, Nadi. Elaborate iTaukei ceremonies of welcome were accorded to delegates in Nadi for the International Sugar Organisations (ISO) 43rd Council Session. It is the first time for Fiji to host the meeting. It began on Tuesday at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa on Denarau Island under the theme: Developing Countries Options for Growth in Sugarcane. Over a hundred delegates will converge for the four-day meeting. Many of them were left in awe at the traditional yaqona and meke ceremony performed for them by personnel of the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces. The ceremony was conducted on the beachfront lawns of the Sofitel. Taking centre stage as chief guest was International Sugar Organisation executive director Dr Peter Baron, who was led by chairman, Prime Minister and Minister for Sugar Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama. Dr Baron arrived last weekend and is optimistic of another successful council session and strengthening the organisations ties with Fiji. This invitation to Fiji is, I think, an excellent impression of the longlasting, loyal and successful friendship and cooperation which has existed between Fiji and the International Sugar Organization, Dr Baron commended. I think this is the coronation of this cooperation and I can tell you that we are deeply grateful for this invitation to have these meetings on your island. I hope very much that these meetings will be able to make at least a modest contribution to the future successful and sustainable industry of sugar in Fiji. The welcome display was attended by Government officials and members of Fijis sugar industry bodies, namely the Fiji Sugar Corporation, Sugar Industry Tribunal and Fiji Sugar Cane Growers Council. The welcome was followed by a cocktail before a cultural show that saw men of Beqa Island perform their famous fire-walking ceremony for the visiting dignitaries.
Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry has responded to allegations leveled against him by the Peoples Democratic Party. He also called for political unity among Fijis political parties. Here are excerpts from his interview with Radio Australias Pacific Beat: ON Fiji Labour Party direction: I was quite surprised at the criticism held at me and the Labour Party by a Nirmal Singh, the supposedly spokesperson for the newly registered party. There is no truth to those allegations. Labour is fully focused and it has a sense of direction which of course at this present time our priority is quite different because it is now the question is the returning to genuine democracy to Fiji and we are all trying to unite the people. The three political parties are trying to unite the people under one banner so we can fight the regime and bring back democracy to our country. Its not the time to create further political divisions in Fiji. ON Peoples Democratic Party comments: Welltheyve just been registered. I dont know how they are thinking, but obviously they are attacking well-established political parties. They seem to be more intent on creating political division rather than uniting the people of Fiji, which is what we need right now political unity. ON former Labour members in the Peoples Democratic Party: Well yes, a number of them were former office bearers for the former Labour Party, MPs and Senators and three of their top
people were expelled from the Labour Party in 2006 for disciplinary offences they are Krishna Datt, Poseci Bune and Atu Bain. And of course now theyve regrouped and they are now the people behind this new PDP, using the FTUC as a front. ON support: It seems that they are targeting me personally and Im least worried about that because I think its the people who are going to be the judges as far as the performance of these political parties are concerned. Personal attacks dont bother me because its coming from people who have absolutely no grassroot support and lack credibility. ON political unity: Im not bothered talking about them, I just want to clarify or clear the air in terms of the false and malicious allegations they made against the Labour Party. I need to defend the Party, and that is exactly what Im doing. I hope that they will concentrate their energies and efforts in uniting the people of Fiji so that we can fight the regime which is right now increasing its strangle hold on Fiji and its people. ON the Peoples Democratic Party joining the United Front: They have to show their commitment to the process that we are engaged in and its not for me to decide there are other parties that are also there, we cant have this kind of bickering and early accusations and false and malicious allegations against a political parties. Our mission is to unite the people politically and there, there is no room for political bickering and one upmanship.
Conference funding
Meanwhile the conference also received a generous $20,000 boost from Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited (ANZ) for its Council session. Permanent Secretary in the Prime Ministers Office, Pio Tikoduadua while accepting the cheque from ANZ chief executive officer Fiji and the Pacific Vishnu Mohan said: The government and the nation is appreciative of the ANZs bank efforts in assisting us with growing the sugar industry. He said Government was grateful to the bank for its assistance in the sugar industry which is one of the critical areas of national development. Mr Mohan said that the ANZ was priviledged and honoured for the opportunity to assist government. We will continue to help the industry move forward, Mohan said.
A one year-old toddler was rushed to the Lautoka hospital after he allegedly consumed kerosene from a cup that was left on the kitchen table by his brother. Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro said the toddler was alone with his 14-yearold brother when the incident occurred. Naisoro said it is alleged that the 14-year-old had left the left the glass filled with kerosene while he searched
for matches and upon returning saw the toddler standing with the glass. She said neighbors were alerted about the incident and the boy was taken to the hospital. Police is again pleading with parents and guardians to ensure their children are left under proper adult supervision at all times and to ensure harmful substances are kept well away of childrens reach.

Fiji Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama Govt slams patronising British media and government over comments
Fiji is moving forward regardless of patronising attitudes by Britains media and government, the Fijian Government said. Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, was quick to respond to reports about a sting operation that implicated several British parliamentarians using a fake Fijian lobby group. Its fake, was Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimaramas response when asked to comment. Commodore Bainimarama said the media report confirmed that it had been prepared by a fake lobby group. Will you believe what a fake company gives out? The sting operation organised by British newspaper, The Daily Telegraph and the British Broadcasting Corporations Panorama continues to shake the David Cameron-led government. British parliamentarian Patrick Mercer was reportedly paid thousands of pounds to raise questions in the British parliament about Fijis re-entry into the Commonwealth. STATEMENT FROM THE FIJIAN GOVERNMENT The Bainimarama Government commends the British media for revealing corruption in the British Government. Fiji has the toughest anticorruption record in the South Pacific. However, the effort to clean up their government is no excuse for the astonishing ignorance displayed by the patronising British media and regrettably, the British Foreign Office minister, Hugo Swire, in his answers to questions in the House of Commons posed by the now disgraced MP, Patrick Mercer. The image of Fiji that is being put forward is rooted in Fijis past, not its present. Today, Fiji is on the cusp of finalising a new constitution, and is preparing for democratic parliamentary elections next year. These elections will be held for the first time on the basis of equal votes of equal value instead of the raciallyweighted system bequeathed to Fiji by Britain at independence in 1970. In addition, four political parties have been registered thus far and are participating in the public debate about our future. And more than half a million Fijians have been registered to vote using a secure electronic voter registration system. It is disappointing that there has been little recognition from Fijis former colonial ruler of the changes and progress being made by the Bainimarama Government to establish a modern, progressive state. The uninformed attitudes of the British Government and media appear to be still coloured by the patronising attitudes of the past, completely neglecting the changes underway in Fiji today.

The Ministry of Education permanent secretary Dr Brij Lal commended the students for willing to take up the classes and also thanked the 2 university staff for working with the students to learn this ancient Hindi language. I am thankful to Dr Gajendra Pande and Dr Jharna Pande for volunteering to teach important aspects of Sanskrit which is fading away among young people today, said Dr Lal.
If students can speak and translate in five days, that shows they have a heart to learn said Dr. Pande. To display what they had learnt, the students carried out poetry recitals, drama, hymns, and mantras from the teachings of Sanskrit Language during the appreciation ceremony held recently. Through this program I am happy to learn my mother tongue and to teach others this wonderful language, said Shweta Chand a form five student. Guruji Shivachariyar Sada Shiva shows the statue that appears from leaves by miracle. A GROUP of Hindu devotees at Velovelo and Wairabetia Gangaman Govil were shocked and at the same time proud to see one of their sons performing miracles that used to be performed by the late spiritual leader Sai Baba. Hindu saint Guruji Shivachariyar Sada Shiva captivated Hindu devotees with different kinds of miracles at the Velovelo temple in Lautoka. At one moment, he holds yellow marigold flowers in his hands, rubbed them together and showed kumkuma (red powder) that is used for Hindu rituals. The guru later put up a performance for The Fiji Times during an interview when he turned neem leaves into a small statue. Asked how he was able to do that, the Fiji-born priest said meditation, fasting and faith enabled him to perform miracles. He said it was his childhood dream to become a saint and be like the late Sai Baba. "During my childhood days in Lautoka, I always wondered how the Hindu guru performed miracles and it was through this influence that drove me to be one of them (guru)," said Mr Shiva. "After a five-year stint doing religious studies in India, and through fasting and meditation, I managed to fully equip my knowledge and belief through my religious teaching. I performed the first miracle in 2010. Now I can perform many different kinds of miracles." The priest, who is now based in Canada, was invited by the Velovelo devotees to be part of this year's annual religious gathering.

SHARK eco-tourism will soon generate more money than shark fisheries, according to a study by the University of British Columbia in Canada. Shark ecotourism currently generates more than $US314 million ($F575.62m) annually worldwide and is expected to more than double to $US780 million in the next 20 years, the study found. In comparison, the landed value of global shark fisheries is currently $US630 million and has been in decline for the past decade. "I think the most important thing for us is that people realise that there are alternative economic uses for natural resources", lead author, Andres Cisneros-Montemayor, from UBC said. An estimated 38 million sharks were killed in 2009 to meet the demand in Asia for shark fin, the study found.
But shark watching and diving with sharks is a major earner in areas such the Pacific, with Cook Islands, Marshall Islands, French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Palau and Tokelau creating shark sanctuaries. "Something that is being done all over the world .. has been putting in shark protection areas. These are large expanses of marine protected areas where shark fishing is either banned or very strictly controlled," Mr CisnerosMontemayor said. "We've seen little by little more and more governments trying to do it, and one major reason for that is the emergence of shark eco-tourism. So when governments notice that their citizens are making a lot of money from tourism activity centered around sharks, they are much more willing to protect them."

NEW precautions and procedures have been put in place to prevent opportunistic people from abusing the electronic voter registration (EVR) process for their own benefit. Acting permanent secretary of Ministry of Justice Mohammed Saneem said EVR clerks had been issued with a picture ID. He said this would be worn in plain sight and presented on demand. "If an individual is unable to produce this ID, Fijians are warned not to provide that individual with any personal information, including their
I only send workers overseas if there is a need, says Public Service Commission Permanent Secretary Parmesh Chand. His comment follows reports by overseas media of backlash from the Vanuatu Teachers Union of talks to send retired Fijian teachers under the volunteer scheme to serve in Vanuatu. The Vanuatu media reported that Fijis Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and his Vanuatu counterpart had agreed, on the sidelines of last month's G-77 Summit, to offer 15 local retired teachers jobs in the Pacific Island country. There are currently no retired teachers from Fiji serving in Vanuatu under the Fiji Volunteer Scheme, Chand said.
voter ID number," Mr Saneem said. He said those seeking to register must have valid identification and anyone found using a false ID or attempts to register more than once would be in violation of the crimes decree. He said anyone giving false information to a public official could possibly face prison time or fines. Members of the public were seen making use of the opportunity as the Phase III of the registration kicked off in Suva. Mr Saneem said Phase III would also target those Fijians who had turned 18 years.
In an interview with Radio Australia Vanuatu Teachers Union president Wilfred Leo said they would resort to strike action if the agreement between the country leaders eventuate. One of the requirements for sending local volunteers overseas is that first an area of need must be identified by that particular country, Chand said. When this is done then country to country agreements are made either between Prime Ministers or the Ministers of Foreign Affairs or Labour. The Fiji Volunteer Scheme will only supply Human Resource in terms of the needs specified and where we have surplus in providing or filling the gaps.

THE Ministry of Agriculture hopes to make its first collection of fresh milk destined for export at the end of the month. This is after a dairy chilling centre in Ba was opened earlier this year and the registration of dairy farmers who will supply milk for export. Deputy permanent secretary for agriculture Uraia Waibuta said officials at the ministry were working with dairy
farmers in Ba for the first collection. "We've done the registration process of farmers and our officials are still in the process of training them in basic farming practices and all the processes involved in running a dairy farm," Mr Waibuta said. "We've set out specific targets for them to meet and hopefully we can make our first collection by the end of the month."

Westpac Banking Corporation organized a customer forum to give its customers on Fijis economic insight from the banks perspective. The forum was held at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi. An insight of what lies ahead for Fiji as the clouds of financial markets storm clear a little was given by Westpac senior economist Justin Smirk from Australia. The insight looked at international market of USA, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and China. Downside risks Westpac sees some downside risk to the financial forecast for growth of around two per cent for Fiji 2013, Mr Smirk said. Consumption and investment demand is behind the stronger growth of Fiji in 2012 despite the setback of three natural disasters and the continuing global demand. Fiji is not relying completely on tourism but also on other sectors, and tourism will still remain an important revenue provider. Fiji is expected to follow the boarder trend closely with Australian, New Zealand and Singapore Dollar. Economic impacts Westpac general manager Adrian Hughes said this was the second forum organized by Westpac to brief clients on the economic impacts to Fiji.
Fiji is a small developing country and these kinds of forum are very important to better understand the international market impacts as well. Smirk has a lot of experience internationally. Fiji is now trading with the Chinese Renminbi which is a good platform to trade directly with China, Mr Hughes said. Accountants and business houses took advantage of this forum to better understand the impacts of international market fall down on Fiji. Westpac will host a similar forum at Holiday Inn in Suva. Background Mr Smirk is the Senior Economist with Westpacs Economic Research team with 17 years of experience in Australias Financial Markets. He joined Westpac in 1999 following his training as an Economist at the Reserve Bank of Australia. Mr Smirk has also provided his professional services at Westpacs London office as Senior International Economist. He has also served as Chief Economist at St George Bank in Australia. In 2011 with his vast experience Mr Smirk was appointed to the advisory board of the new professionally independent research unit. He was also the Bureau of Resources and also Bureau of Resources and Energy Economics.

He also commended the Ministry of Health Fiji for their efforts to ban smoking in public areas and adding pictures on cigarette packs depicting the effects of smoking. Legislation and its enforcement protect and deter people from smoking, Dr Waqanivalu said. He feels that if Fiji can ban smoking than it would be best and ideal. Dr Waqanivalu said people who smoke can save a lot of money in a year if they quit. Meanwhile, Tobacco Control Regulations 2012 kicks off in July, which will also prohibit smoking in specified areas.

The Chair of the International Sugar Organisation and Fijian Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama briefed more than 100 delegates of the 43rd Session of the International Sugar Council on the comprehensive series of reforms undertaken by government in the sugar industry. Prime Minister Bainimarama said that government was sparing no effort to revitalise Fijis sugar industry as it remained a major economic driver, providing livelihoods for 200,000 Fijians (more than 20 percent of Fijis population). Land that had fallen fallow is being replanted, more long term leases are being renewed, confidence is growing, stability is returning and a revitalised industry is beginning to take root, PM
Bainimarama said. Two weeks ago, I was able to announce a record cane payment to our farmers, as well as a high price secured for next years crop. The head of government also added that Fiji is on the right path with long term goals to increase production and diversify the sugar industry adding value to the crop in order to limit exposure to the uncertainty of price fluctuations for raw sugar. Governments commitment to this industry is absolute and unwavering to make sugar viable and prosperous again to reverse the decline in production experienced in Fiji over the last couple of decades, PM Bainimarama said.

Filimoni Namana assists this stroke patient Five volunteers under the Public Service Commissions (PSC) Fiji Volunteer Scheme (FVS) are working with disabled people, who have suffered accidents, as rehabilitation assistants. PSC Permanent Secretary, Parmesh Chand said the volunteers are graduates from the Fiji National University (FNU) who studied to become Community Rehabilitation Assistants. He said that in partnership with the Ministry of Health, PSC through the Volunteer Scheme was able to recruit these five Volunteers to work at the Tamavua Rehabilitation Hospital. Mr Chand said their line of work includes physically assisting patients who are totally dependent for their Activities of Daily Living (ADL) such as bathing, dressing, feeding, exercise and applications of therapeutic techniques. Our Volunteers teach these independent skills and techniques of ADL to patients and family members who will be caring for them including the home programme exercise. Mr Chand added that the Volunteers were visited by a team from PSC. Vaseva Danford, a volunteer who graduated from FNU last year, said this was her first home visit to a patient whom she had been assisting at the Tamavua Rehabilitation Centre for the past few months. The patient was discharged last Thursday. I will be visiting once a week and my work will include teaching the patient to do a range of motion exercises like stretching of arms and legs. I also motivate the patient so that she can do better and be able to walk properly again without any aid, she said. Filimoni Namana, another volunteer who visited said he aims to be able to get his patient to stand up and walk. We just finished our muscle relaxation of the knee exercise which will help strengthen my patients knees, he said. The volunteers are also expected to introduce and supervise play recreational activities and exercises to those who have suffered stroke, head injuries and spinal cord injuries in an effort to get patients to accept their disabilities and explore the potential to live and participate at home and in the community. The concept of volunteering under the FVS is about nation building and participating in programs in society that will bring about civic pride and patriotism on the part of individuals who are involved. FVS is a Government initiative administered by PSC as the most cost effective and caring way of providing humanitarian assistance to society.

ARIES A successful journey begins to show its positive effects. A trusted outfit is getting slip should you may need to look elsewhere for your needs. Arrange to be personally involved in a social work drive for future benefit. A fine week to say sweet things to a loved one. TAURUS A clash of opinions adds to the variety, and energises you into swift action. A debate on the pros and cons of a venture remains academic and needs your practical initiative to take it off the ground. Do not be obvious in wooing your lover - a little mystery adds to the fun week. GEMINI Work connected to sports and outdoor activity gets off to a fine start. A busy week where you can give full vent to your powers of communication - a talkathon. A missing file or document is located. This means its high time
you were slightly more organized. CANCER Cross connections, mixed up signals and such give you all the wrong messages in this week. So if you are peeved by the actions of a friend, think again, or hurt by the words of a dear one, stop, look and review the situation. A bonus or a windfall gain is on its way. LEO Last minute arrangements will not work so you must rely on advance planning. Community work beckons, but it is making you a wee bit unpopular with some people. Stop nit-picking and look at the larger gains in a personal relationship you value. VIRGO Expect some interference from vested interests in a path breaking decision. Doing the right thing will bring satisfaction despite the hurdles. An engaging conversation turns your mind towards further research. A trip may be
in the offing. LIBRA Others around you may well call it Smiley's week - your little gestures and encouragement bring a smile to many faces in this week. SCORPIO Responding to another's need will bring happiness. A loved one needs your support in a challenge. A feeling of doing less than you can handle overtakes you but this will pass. Fiction or other fantasy involvement will help you get your balance back. SAGITTARIUS Lots of people want to share their private secrets, doubts and fears with you . whole thing can be avoided. CAPRICORN You are dissatisfied with the rewards your work has earned. Lie low now if you wish to enjoy your just desserts later. Australia has told North Korea it cannot re-establish an embassy in Canberra. The embassy in the capital was shut down in 2008 for financial reasons, but North Korea recently approached the Federal Government to revive a diplomatic presence. Foreign Affairs Minister Bob Carr initially said he would be happy to facilitate a potential line of communication to Pyongyang.
However, he now says the country's aggressive behaviour in recent months has prompted Australia to shut down the proposal. "We indicated that given their bellicose behaviour we did not want them to proceed," he said. "I've got to say that everyone who's engaged with North Korea - and that includes Senator John Kerry - looks forward to involving North Korea in negotiations."

A Saudi prince spent nearly $19-million on a private three-day extravaganza at Disneyland near Paris to celebrate his degree, the group that runs the theme park said Monday. Prince Fahd al-Saud booked entire areas of the park over May 22 to 24 for his 60 guests, who included friends, as well as diehard Disney fans and bloggers. The Paris event was the finale of a world tour paid for by the prince and called Disney Dreamers Everywhere. It started in Hong Kong Disneyland and moved on to theme parks in Tokyo, California, Florida and then France. The festivities included tailormade events involving rare Disney characters, Euro Disney said. According to regional newspaper Ouest France, the prince even had a hand in designing the costumes and the scenarios all specially shipped in for the event, along with 80 dancers. Rare characters making special guest appearances included Roger
The deadly tornado near Oklahoma City last week was a record-breaking 2.6 miles (4.2 km) wide and packed wind of up to 295 mph, weather officials said. It was the second top-of-the scale EF-5 twister in the area in 11 days, the National Weather Service said. Last Friday's storm in El Reno, along with flooding, killed 18 people, including three storm chasers. The other EF-5 tornado hit the nearby city of Moore on 20 May, killing 24 people and wreaking widespread damage. Friday's massive twister avoided highly
populated areas near the Oklahoma state capital, sparing lives. "If it was two more miles this way, it would have wiped out all of downtown, almost every one of our subdivisions and almost all of our businesses," El Reno Mayor Matt White said. William Hooke, of the American Meteorological Society, says it is only "a matter of time" before such a tornado hits a major urban centre. "You lay that path over Oklahoma City, and you have devastation of biblical proportions," Mr Hooke told the news agency.

Cat Caught Smuggling Mobile Man With 'Micropenis' Visits Phones Into Russian Prison Camp Doctor, Discovers He's Actually A Guards patrolling a prison colony in Woman northern Russia have caught a cat that was being used to smuggle mobile
phones to inmates. As the cat was climbing a fence into the labour camp in Komi, the guards noticed it had a bulky package taped to its back. The package contained two mobile phones, batteries and phone chargers. The prison posted a photograph on its website of the black-and-white cat held up by the scruff of its neck by a guard with the bulky package still stuck to its fur. "They have foiled various attempts to smuggle banned objects into Prison Colony Number One before, but in the case of the cat, the prison colony is at a loss: nothing like this has happened in the prison's history," the regional prison service said. In a similar incident in Brazil in January, a cat was caught inside a jail with blades, drill bits and a mobile phone taped to its body. A 66-year-old man who thought he merely had an unusually tiny penis was shocked to find out from doctors that he was actually a woman. The unnamed patient arrived at Kwong Wah Hospital in Hong Kong complaining of a swelling in his abdomen. After being examined by doctors, it was determined that the swelling was caused by a cyst on one of his ovaries. Doctors from Kwong Wah and Queen Elizabeth Hospitals explained that the patient suffered from both the chromosomal abnormality known as Turner Syndrome and the genetic disorder congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), giving him the internal organs of a woman along with the physical appearance of a man.
"The patient, by definition, is a woman who cannot get pregnant. But she also has CAH, which gave her the appearance of a man," Chinese University pediatrics professor Ellis Hon Kam-lun told the South China Morning Post. "It's an interesting and very rare case of having the two combinations. It probably won't be seen again in the near future." In fact, there have been only six instances of both disorders occurring simultaneously in recorded medical history. According to his doctors, the patient, who is 4'5" tall, bearded, has a micropenis and no testicles, plans to continue identifying as male, and may undergo male hormone replacement therapy.

Older children of immigrants will be prevented from joining their parents and siblings in Canada under a new federal government plan to restrict the definition of "dependent child." The change, which takes effect Jan. 1, will narrow the definition of a dependent child to someone younger than 19, rather than the current 22, and remove an exception for older children who study full time. The new rules could make roughly 7,000 immigrants a year

B.C. Premier Christy Clark has confirmed she is planning to run for a seat in the riding of Westside-Kelowna in a by-election next month. Clark made the announcement at the Quails' Gate winery, owned by former cabinet minister Ben Stewart, who will give up his seat so that Clark can call a by-election by next week. The Liberal leader said she had several offers from other MLAs willing to step down, but decided the Kelowna riding was the "natural fit." All three seats in the Kelowna area are considered safe seats for the B.C. Liberals, and Stewart won his Westside seat by 6,000 votes, taking nearly twice as many votes as the NDP candidate. Clark currently lives in Vancouver, where her son goes to school, but has promised to establish a second residence in the city. Historical significance The premier noted the historical significance of her decision to run in Kelowna, which was once the riding of former premiers WAC Bennett and his son Bill Bennett. "We say names like WAC Bennett and Bill Bennett and we think of leadership two great leaders who shaped our
province," said Clark. She noted it has been decades since a premier has been elected from B.C.'s interior. "I hope that with the blessing of the people of Westside-Kelowna, I can be the third premier to bring a vision to British Columbia from this community." Stewart, who founded Quail's Gate estate winery, was first elected in 2009 and served as a cabinet minister in several portfolios, including agriculture. He said he decide to offer his seat to the premier so Clark would have a chance to deliver on what she campaigned on. Clark led the B.C. Liberals to a surprising victory in the May 14 provincial election, but was defeated in her own riding of Vancouver-Point Grey by NDP candidate David Eby, a high-profile civil rights lawyer, by more than 1,000 votes. No date for the by-election has been announced yet, but Clark said it would be called within a week, meaning Westside-Kelowna voters will head to the polls in mid-July. The NDP has promised to run a candidate in the race.

The CRTC has unveiled a new code of conduct that forbids cellphone companies from charging customers fees to break their contracts after two years and makes it easier to unlock cellphones. Those are two of the biggest takeaways from a new code of conduct that the broadcast regulator unveiled on Monday and will come into effect for contracts signed after Dec. 2, 2013. The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has been working on the code for a number of months after a lengthy consultation process with consumers and the industry. The new code will allow consumers to: Terminate their wireless contracts after two years without cancellation fees, even if they have signed on for a longer term. Cap extra data charges at $50 a month and international data roaming charges at $100 a month to prevent bill shock. Have their cellphones unlocked after 90 days, or immediately if they paid for the device in full. Return their cellphones, within 15 days and specific usage limits, if they are unhappy with their service. Accept or decline changes to the key terms of a fixed-term contract (i.e., two-year), and receive a contract that is easy to read and understand. "Hopefully, these rules will convince the companies to treat people with a little more respect," said Steve Anderson of consumer watchdog group Open Media.
New CRTC Wireless Rules Ban Contract Break Fees After 2 Years
In the lead-up to public hearings held earlier this year, the CRTC said it heard a lot of angry comments about threeyear contracts offered by wireless carriers when it was putting together a draft version of the national code for wireless services. "The wireless code will contribute to a more dynamic marketplace by making it possible for Canadians to discuss their needs with service providers at least every two years," CRTC chair Jean-Pierre Blais said. The CRTC has a backer in the federal Competition Bureau, which has said it supports measures to limit contract length. Cellphone contracts of no more than two years are the standard in the U.S, Europe and elsewhere in the developing world. Many say it's no coincidence that cellular users in those places own more phones, use them more and replace them more frequently. "What we were concerned about was ensuring that there was a dynamic marketplace, that is, that people didn't feel entrapped in their contracts when they want to maybe use the offer of a new entrant or a competitor across the street," Blais said. "So, it really is about freeing up Canadians to choose either stay with their current carrier, under renegotiated terms, or go to a competitor." To be clear, the new code will not go as far as "banning" cellphone contracts of three years or longer. It simply means a consumer can't be charged a fee for getting out of a contract they've dutifully paid off for more than two years. Effectively, it likely spells the beginning of the end for the once ubiquitous three-year subsidized cellphone contract in Canada. "Glad to see three-year wireless contracts will soon go the way of the Dodo bird in this country," cabinet minister Tony Clement tweeted after the code was released.

Telus, one of Canada's "big three" wireless providers, said it already does a lot of the things mentioned in the new code. "Telus replaced contract cancellation charges with a device balance some years ago," the company said in a statement. "We also already offer phone unlocking for our customers, and we already have a cap on international data roaming." It said the new code will "give Canadians a strong and friendly set of protections." Rival wireless provider Rogers told reporter it also already fulfills many of the requirements but said the company might not be able to put in place all the necessary technology and systems that are needed to comply with the new code by the CRTC's December deadline. "None of this is rocket science, but it all takes time," Ken Engelhart, Rogers vice-president in charge of regulatory issues, told the news agency. "And when you're a big company with big IT systems or for that matter, a small company with small IT systems these things typically take 12 to 18 months to implement, and the CRTC has given us six months." Shorter contracts could also mean cellphone companies might offer smaller subsidies on devices meaning customers might pay more up front for their phone, Engelhart said. "I'm not sure that this will be something that consumers are necessarily going to be positive about, but time will tell," he said.
Bell spokesman Paolo Pasquini told the reporter that the company already provides customers with a number of ways to avoid signing a long-term contract and warned a two-year time frame could end up limiting their options. "Most have chosen three-year contracts because of the big price reductions they mean on the latest smartphones," he said. "Restricting to two years means less flexibility for consumers, so it remains to be seen how they'll respond." Price hikes possible There's a good chance, however, that Canadians could see the price they pay for their cellphones up front rise as a consequence of their newly won longterm freedom. "This requirement does limit consumer choice in the marketplace, and could make a customers upfront purchase price of a smartphone more expensive than current offerings," the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association said in a statement. The CWTA is the lobby group that represents the industry in Canada. "There will be some major technology development and costs associated with implementing and complying with the new code, but the industry will work very hard to have all aspects of the code ready for customers by Dec. 2, 2013." But at least one consumer group welcomed the move. "The wireless code has rules to help wireless customers where it counts the bottom line," John Lawford of the Public Interest Advocacy Centre said in a statement. "It also makes it easier to switch companies because those costs are limited and are clear."

Spectrum refers to radio waves over which wireless networks operate, carrying voice and data. Lacavera said Mobilicity's spectrum, if combined with Wind Mobile's, would allow the combined company to build out a faster, next-generation network that will handle heavy data use from smartphones and tablets. "We can't go to the next generation without more spectrums," he said, calling the merging of the two companies a "logical combination." Wind Mobile has more than 600,000 subscribers while Mobilicity has 250,000, a small drop compared to the roughly 25 million customers who
Companies Could Face Hefty Fines For Violating Consumer Product Laws: Aglukkaq Companies that break consumer safety our government is ensuring that
laws, which apply to everyday goods including kids' toys and household products, could now face hefty fines of up to $25,000 per day. Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq introduced the change Tuesday. It requires companies that violate the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA) to pay up. Canada's existing safety law applies to a number of consumer goods including sporting goods, motor vehicles and their parts, and food and drugs. "Canadian consumers expect the products they pick up on store shelves to be safe for them and their families," Aglukkaq said. "By introducing significant fines for companies who violate orders to recall unsafe products, companies who break the law will pay the price." Fines for breaking the rules will range from $5,000 to $25,000, depending on the nature of violations and the history of the people and companies involved. Each day a rule is broken, it can count as a separate violation of the CCPSA. The financial penalty will only come into effect when a company doesn't comply with government-ordered recalls within established time frames. "In most cases, industry shares our concern for having safe products on the Canadian marketplace," Aglukkaq said. "These penalties will zero in on companies and organizations who won't take action to protect Canadians from dangerous products."

If a child is unconscious, the first step is to check his mouth for any items blocking the airway. These could include his tongue, food, vomit or blood. If blockages are found, roll him onto his side keeping his top leg bent as shown. This is known as the recovery position. Clear any blockages using your fingers, then check for breathing. If no blockage is found, roll the child onto his back and check for breathing. Listen for the sound of the breath, look for movements of the chest or feel for the breath on your cheek.

Milk is one of the most nutritious choices that kids can make at home or at school. It's a natural, nutrient-packed food that is a "good" or "excellent" source of nine essential nutrients that growing children need for good health and strong bones. Here are some easy tips to follow to ensure your kids get the three servings of milk they need each day. 1. Serve milk ice-cold, the way kids like it, between 35-40 degrees F. Pour it right before serving and promptly return the container to the refrigerator
so the milk maintains its fresh taste. 2. Be a role model. When children see you drink milk, they are more likely to drink it, too. 3. Serve milk at meals. Set expectations ahead of time that milk is the beverage of choice at meal times. 4. Serve flavored milk. Kids love it, and ounce for ounce it has the same nutrients as unflavored milk. 5. Stock the fridge with single-serve containers of white and flavored milk for grab n go. 6. Serve milk in special glasses and with a straw. Let older kids use mix-ins to create a new milk flavor. 7. Let children use a straw to drink the milk left in the bowl after finishing their cereal. 8. Order low-fat flavored milk in kid-friendly, single-serve containers instead of soda when eating out. 9. Remind children to drink milk with School Lunch. Studies show that when children drink milk at lunch, they have higher intakes of several critical nutrients, including calcium, zinc and vitamin A. 10. Send milk money and have children buy milk when they take their lunch to school.

Learn tricks to help you eat slower, which will help you lose weight. Slowing down when you eat is a weight-loss strategy based upon the fattening fact that our brains register fullness about 20 minutes after our stomachs. This lag time causes overeating and, ultimately, weight gain. By making a few easy changes to your eating style, you can slow down your swallowing and allow your brain to catch up with your belly. As a result, youll consume fewer calories without feeling any less satisfied. Plus, youll be able to continue to enjoy your favorite foods because youll be at less risk of overindulging. 1. Schedule more time for eating. Seems contradictory to the goal of weight loss, doesnt it? But if you only allot a short time to eat, youll gobble your food down so fast, your body will never have a chance to signal you that you really didnt need so much. So unless you feel you have the utmost of control, adjust your schedule so you eat your food slowly and calmly over 30 minutes. Two-thirds of the way through, youll probably start feeling full, and will lose your desire for more.

2. Substitute chopsticks. This is another way to guarantee you eat slower. Start by buying a really nice pair that youd be happy to eat with frequently. Then eat even non-Asian meals with them. This slows you down because chopsticks pick up much less food with each bite than a fork. They also require more dexterity and concentration than a fork. If you find chopsticks too frustrating, try holding your fork or spoon in your nondominant hand. 3. Keep your focus. Okay, we know you want to eat with others, and if you have a family, probably insist on it. Doing so provides all kinds of health benefits that have nothing to do with nutrition. So if you do eat with others, just dont get so lost in conversation that you lose awareness of the eating process. Your task is to cherish each bite, eating slowly and mindfully, even while talking with others. 4. Drink water between bites. While water doesnt reduce appetite, it does slow down your eating process. And its certainly healthy for you. So after every swallow of food, take a small sip of water before picking up the fork again.

Purified components of ginger may have properties that help asthma patients breathe more easily, a study from researchers at Columbia University have revealed. Asthma is characterized by bronchoconstriction, a tightening of the bronchial tubes that carry air into and out of the lungs. Bronchodilating medications called beta-agonists are among the most common types of asthma medications and work by relaxing the airway smooth muscle (ASM) tissues. This study looked at whether specific components of ginger could help enhance the relaxing effects of bronchodilators. "Asthma has become more prevalent in recent years, but despite an improved understanding of what causes asthma and how it develops, during the past 40 years few new treatment agents have been approved for targeting asthma symptoms," said lead author Elizabeth Townsend, PhD, post-doctoral research fellow in the Columbia University Department of Anesthesiology. "In our study, we demonstrated that purified components of ginger can work synergistically with beta-agonists to relax ASM," she explained. To conduct their study, the researchers took human ASM tissue samples and caused the samples to contract by exposing them to acetylcholine, a neurotransmitting compound that causes bronchoconstriction. Next, the researchers mixed the beta-agonist isoproterenol with three separate components of ginger: 6-gingerol, 8-gingerol or 6-shogaol. Contracted tissue samples were exposed to each of these three mixtures as well as unadulterated isoproterenol and the relaxation responses were recorded and compared.
At the conclusion of their study, the researchers found that tissues treated with the combination of purified ginger components and isoproterenol exhibited significantly greater relaxation than those treated only with isoproterenol; of the three ginger components, 6-shogaol appeared most effective in increasing the relaxing effects of the beta-agonist. Once they were able to demonstrate that the ginger components enhanced the relaxing effects of the beta -agonist, they turned their attention to learning why. First, the researchers wanted to determine if the ginger components might work by affecting an enzyme called phosphodiesterase4D (PDE4D). Previous studies have shown that PDE4D, which is found in the lungs, inhibits processes that otherwise help relax ASM and lessen inflammation. Using a technique called fluorescent polarization, they found that all three components significantly inhibited PDE4D. Next, the study looked at F-actin filaments, a protein structure which previous studies have shown plays a role in the constriction of ASM, and found that 6-shogaol was effective in speedily dissolving these filaments. "Taken together, these data show that ginger constituents 6-gingerol, 8-gingerol and 6-shogaol act synergistically with the beta -agonist in relaxing ASM, indicating that these compounds may provide additional relief of asthma symptoms when used in combination with beta -agonists," Dr. Townsend noted. "By understanding the mechanisms by which these ginger compounds affect the airway, we can explore the use of these therapeutics in alleviating asthma symptoms," she added.
In a new study, researchers have demonstrated that grapes are able to reduce heart failure associated with chronic high blood pressure (hypertension) by increasing the activity of several genes responsible for antioxidant defense in the heart tissue. Grapes are a known natural source of antioxidants and other polyphenols, which researchers believe to be responsible for the beneficial effects observed with grape consumption. This study, funded by a grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and conducted at the University of Michigan Health System, uncovered a novel way that grapes exert beneficial effects in the heart: influencing gene activities and metabolic pathways that improve the levels of glutathione, the most abundant cellular antioxidant in the heart.

Lead investigator E. According to 2012 government statistics, dependents under the age of 19 made up 90 per cent, or 64,757, of all sponsored children to Canada, while those 19 or over made up just 10 per cent, or 7,237. The change will ultimately apply to live-in caregivers and refugees. For these groups, the process of qualifying for permanent resident status in Canada varies and can take years; by then, their children may miss the age cut-off. A sevenpage outline of the plan says Canada's economic stability has remained fragile. "Age at immigration frequently determines where a person receives his or her education. With the difficulties in determining a foreign credential's value in Canada and evidence that the return on Canadian education is much higher," it says, "age at immigration becomes the most important factors in determining the economic outcomes of immigrants." Instead, immigration officials suggested these older children could
come here separately as international students, who normally must pay double or triple the tuitions than domestic students. Upon their graduation, officials said, they could try to apply for immigration on their own. Citizenship and Immigration Canada said it is time-consuming to process applications of older children. "The verification of attendance and enrolment is both labour intensive and vulnerable to fraud," wrote Caroline Riverin Beaulieu, assistant director of CIC's social policy and programs. The proposal also cited a survey result that found 54 per cent of the general public supported a proposal that would limit sponsorship to principal applicants and their spouses only, with 34 per cent disagreed. There will be transitional provisions in place for immigration applicants already in the process. However, those who file an immigration application after January 1 will be bound by the new rules.

Amitabh and Jaya are celebrating their anniversary. "40 years! 40 years of marriage on the 3rd of June 2013! Jaya and I in marriage for 40 years! A lifetime almost," the 70-year-old posted on his blog srbachchan.tumblr.com. The duo has worked together in movies like "Abhimaan", "Chupke Chupke", "Sholay" and "Zanjeer". They had a small wedding affair back then with only close friends and family in attendance. It "seems like just the other evening", Big B posted on his blog, adding: "I had driven with my parents to a friends place on Malabar Hill, in the southern region of the city, and to a very quick, no fuss, no 'taam jhaam', family and a few friends, and a few close media, wedding."
"A wedding that had the fulfillment of a promise, that if 'Zanjeer' succeeded we would get married! Here we are now, two children and three grand children, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, relatives and 'samdhis' in our family fold. God has been very kind," he added. Amitabh and Jaya have two children - Shweta and Abhishek. Shweta is the elder, and is married to businessman Nikhil Nanda. She got married in 1997 and is now based in Delhi. They have two children - Agastya and Navya Naveli. Abhishek, a Bollywood actor, is married to former beauty queenturned-actress Aishwarya Rai. They have a daughter named Aaradhya. Big B recieved several anniversary wishes online, and he took to Twitter to thank everyone. "To all those that wish us a happy anniversary... our gratitude and love and blessings and joy! Thank you," posted the 70-year-old.
The small joys of life are a welcome change for the actress, who has now recovered from the disease. "I do love shopping on street fairs... have a lemonade, fresh corn...bargain a bit for antique jewellery, felt great to walk on the street," the actress of "Bombay" and "1942: A Love Story"
It's really blissful for Manisha Koirala to walk down the streets, shop and bargain after having stayed in bed battling ovarian cancer
shared her feelings through her post on Twitter. Manisha was initially admitted to Mumbai's Jaslok Hospital Nov 28 last year, but after that she flew to the US for further treatment. The 42-year-old has recovered and is expected to return to India in July.

At The Movies
Looks like the fix is in and the fun contagious in Now You See Me, a joyous treat from EOne Pictures. Sure to set a new bar for high stakes camp this knockout film is now showing off at the Empire Esplande 6, Empire Studio 12, Colossus and Cineplex Odeon Theatres around B.C. Movies on magic can be tricky affairs. Classy efforts like The Prestige found massive audiences while more recent efforts like Burt Wonderstone floundered. Able to find a massive audience is Now You See Me, thanks to the great chemistry between it's cast. Featuring a big time cast that spans the ages the key to Now You See Me is ultimately a great sleight of hand. Not wanting to give away any "secrets" of the trade the fun nature of this flick begins at the outset in the novel way we meet its featured players. Magicians by trade and each with their respective and admired talents down in New York this group is "summoned" to a special audience. Here we see the special abilities of J. Daniel Atlas, Merritt McKinney, Jack Wilder and Henley Reeves. Presented by Jesse
Eisenberg (The Social Network), Woody Harrelson (The Cowboy Way), Isla Fisher (Wedding Crashers) and David Franco (Superbad) this quartet ultimately bond and form quite the show at The MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Among their tricks is to rob a bank while on stage. Needless to say, the local authorities and others aren't too happy with the results, as are depositors. Called in to investigate just how this crime was pulled off is an uninspiring F.B.I. agent, Dylan Rhodes. No Rhodes scholar is the vibe given off by Mark Ruffalo (Zodiac) who always seems to be a step behind these master illusionists who have more than a couple tricks up their sleeve. Young meets old as on hand for this joy ride are veterans acting aces Sir Michael Caine (Alfie) and Morgan Freeman (Kiss the Girls) who delight as pawns in this flamouyant pleaseure filmed movie that appeals to all ages. Oh, and there are countless suprises that ups the ante considerably in this freewheeling lark that has a Robin Hood feel to it. Smart slick dialogue that always
by ROBERT WALDMAN
comes at you and the steadying hand of director Louis Leterrier (The Transporter) provides 115 minutes of non-stop fun. One of the best magical
experiences in years, Now You See Me includes the odd car chase, mistaken identity and a very smart payoff. Styish and slick, Now You See Me is a whale of a good time.
Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries: 100%, Truly, Seriously, Legally Over!
It's all over for Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries. Really. Seriously. Truly. 100% legally. FINALLY. About six weeks after their divorce case was settled in court, a judgment was entered in Los Angeles Superior Court to put the final nail in this seemingly never-ending coffin. People first reported the news, which was the very last legal hurdle for the estranged couple. Terms were not disclosed, though Kim and Kris did sign a prenuptial agreement and sources had previously said he will receive none of his demands. Kardashian, of course, has moved on with Kanye West and is expecting a baby next month. Humphries just continues to suck, both on the basketball court and off.
One of the world's most famous people and most beautiful women celebrates a birthday Tuesday. Angelina Jolie is now 38 years old. The super, duper star was a big enough name even prior to her major announcement last month - but she has now gained an even larger following after admitting to a double masectomy.
Jolie made her first public appearance over the weekend since the reveal, smiling on the red carpet of the World War Z premiere alongside Brad Pitt. Oh. Right. She's also basically married to Brad Pitt. So not a bad life overall for Angelina Jolie. Join us now in wishing her a very happy birthday!

The sight of lush farms blooming with sarso (mustard), a merry breeze stroking the green grass and the gentle aroma of freshly baked rotis (Indian bread) daubed with homemade ghee, envisage these three things together and that's when you'll know you're in Punjab!
Delhi is awkwardly located in terms of geography, especially when it comes to planning a weekend getaway. It's either the hills of Himachal that beckon us to their imposing grandeur, the historical streets of Rajasthan or the scenic landscapes of Uttarakhand that top the list of brief sojourns. But this time, I wanted something simple, something secluded yet close to home. A quick research on the internet landed me on Shivya Nath's travel website called 'India Untravelled'. Her travel stories about lesser known destinations in India were intriguing and what caught my attention was a place called Prakriti Farms. so. Spread over 10 acres of land, the organic farm stay has been groomed to ecological perfection and quite lovingly at that. Several kinds of trees, blossoms, vegetables and herbs are grown around the place. Needless to say, there's no trace of pesticides in the process. There are Maltas, lemons, Mint, sarso, potatoes, Poplar trees, and Neem trees among many others. There's also a chicken coup at the back that is home to several Indian Asils, a breed that was used for cock fights and is now on the verge of extinction. This is Kaushal's humble attempt to protect a few of the lot. In the lap of nature

There's that it somewhat helps maintain the everything that you'd possible need on tranquillity of the place. Perched atop the cliff is a cottage, tucked away from rest of the world. The view is nothing less than a splash of fresh colours on a painting. The range of young Shivaliks forms the backdrop and the green spectacle travels beyond an indefinite expanse. The traditional looking cottage with thatched roofs is plush from inside with modern amenities in place - vitrified tiles, a fully equipped bathroom, rocking chair, and a kitchenette with tea/coffee maker. But among all the interesting furnishings, my favourite were the patio swing chairs. The timing of the

The Cadillac CTS led GM's blitz against banality, back in 2001. And since then, the "standard of the world" brand has battled back, segment by segment, replacing duller rolling stock with better cars, every time. The streak goes on with the 2014 Cadillac CTS, now ready for its worldwide launch. The thirdgeneration CTS finally tackles the thorny E-Class/5-Series/A6 superset head-on, while it marches Cadillac a few more brisk steps away from its straight-edged Art & Science theming. That retreat is unmistakable--because from some angles, the 2014 CTS has an uncanny resemblance to the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. It's all in the rear roofline, the angle of the pillar that bends down toward the trunklid, and the shapes of the side glass. Everywhere else, the CTS is Cadillac, evolving as it is. The blunt edges have been smoothed down. The CTS' grille has fewer ribs and a higher badge, and the vertical headlamps get LED trim that does the neat trick of pulling the nose to the ground, while it picks it up and into the fenders. The lessons learned from the Cadillac ATS get applied inside the 2014 CTS. The dash cap is wrapped in a single piece that drapes into the center stack, and wood trim mingles with cut-andsew upholstery, at least on uplevel models. The two-tone themes that liven up the ATS can be had on the CTS too, and present some of the same exciting options and pitfalls--we haven't seen all the combinations, but the ATS can get overwhelmed with a poor hand on the options tiller, and we assume the same holds true for the CTS. By the way, the CTS sedan is the only model being shown off by Cadillac to date. From what we understand, the coupe and wagon editions might not return, now that Cadillac has the ELR electric coupe and the SRX crossover wagon to support. Bracketed by turbos Three engines frame the 2014 CTS's argument in the mid-size luxury debate. The base powerplant is the same 2.0-liter turbocharged fourcylinder, rated at 272 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, that launched with the 2013 ATS just last year. GM says it's likely worth an EPA rating of 19/30 mpg in its lightest rear-wheeldrive application, with the standard
Autos
paddle-shifted six-speed automatic. All-wheel drive drops gas mileage to 18/26 mpg. The ever-present 3.6-liter V-6 shows up in the midrange CTS, where it checks in with 321 horsepower and 275 poundfeet of torque, and a choice of rearor all-wheel drive. Fuel economy's estimated at 19/28 mpg and 18/27 mpg, respectively. The same six-speed automatic with paddles is standard, but a new eight-speed, paddle-shifted automatic is an option with this engine. At the peak of the CTS lineup there's the Vsport, fitted with GM's new twinturbo 3.6-liter V-6, and good for 420 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. It's rear-drive only, paddleshifted eight-speed automatic only, and rates 17/25 mpg in preliminary gasmileage tests. All versions of the CTS ride on a fully independent suspension, and use electric power steering. All models will have access to GM's Magnetic Ride Control adjustable dampers, while the Vsport gets a flurry of handling upgrades all its own, including 18-inch Pirelli tires, with 19-inch upgrades, quicker steering, a track mode, an
electronic limited-slip differential, and Brembo brakes. No matter which version's in question, GM says weight distribution of 51:49 will keep handling well-balanced--and it says a relatively light curb weight of 3,616 pounds in base trim puts the CTS about 200 pounds under the BMW 528i and 250 pounds under the lastgeneration CTS. Finally, a true mid-sizer That's all the more surprising since the 2014 CTS has grown up and out, now fitting the current definition of midsize--at least, in the luxury realm. The 2014 CTS is 195.5 inches long overall--4.1 inches longer than before-and the wheelbase is 114.6 inches, an increase of 1.1 inches. The roofline's lower by an inch, to 57.2 inches. We expect great things from the CTS's seats, if those in the ATS and other new GM products are any example. The CTS will be offered with standard-issue seats with 14-way power adjustments; leathertrimmed, 16-way adjustable seats and 20-way adjustable seats are options, with manual tweaks for the bottom cushion length and the headressts. As for quality, GM's active noise cancellation will be in effect on fourcylinder versions, cutting perceived interior noise levels by up to 20 dB. It's essentially white noise pumped into the cabin through the CTS' Bose audio system. Safer seats? Like the 2013 ATS, the 2014 CTS will get a full dose of tech-intensive safety features, above and beyond the usual stability control. Ten airbags, parking sensors, rearview cameras--they're a little passe, aren't they? The CTS will offer a combination of radar and cameras that enable forward-collision alerts, adaptive cruise control, crosstraffic alerts, and lane-departure
warnings. The CTS also gets the clever haptic setup from the ATS and XTS, wherein the lane-keeping functions don't vibrate the wheel as they do on some luxury cars--they vibrate the seat, either on the left or the right side of the bottom cushion, depending on which side you transgress. GM's OnStar system is free for a year with the 2014 CTS, and comes bundled with smartphone-app access, down to remote start. 2014 CTS features and options The 2014 Cadillac CTS will come in three different trim levels, named just as those on the ATS are named: Luxury, Performance, and Premium. All versions will come with power features, cruise control, climate control, and Bluetooth with audio streaming. Cadillac's CUE system will be available. It's a defining piece of technology for the brand, and one that's not completely baked--a sentiment we have regarding other infotainment systems. In particular, CUE's haptic feedback isn't always predictable, and its natural-language recognition isn't foolproof. But it's a dramatic-looking setup with some fascinating features worth learning: there's a big 8.0-inch screen that displays navigation, audio, climate, and phone functions, linked to a second screen between the gauges, controlled by voice or by steeringwheel controls. Navigation integrates with CUE, but it's an option on base versions of the CTS. Other nifty touches include parking assist, which steers the car into parallel spots while the driver keeps a foot on the pedals; ambient LED lighting; Bose audio; and a cupholder with a poweroperated cover. Forget what the GPS says--that's the signal you've arrived.

For Women
Being out in the sun will only make you sweatier, while also exposing you to the harmful effects of UV rays. Additionally, the sun can cause a paradoxical increase in oil secretion, making your skin even greasier! During the hours of 10AM 3PM, the sun is at its strongest, emitting almost unbearable light and heat. So avoid the sun particularly during this time. Also, try to cover your head and wear sunglasses. Finally, always remember your sun block, and look for at least SPF30++ for the best sunscreen effect! Look for Salicylic Acid!
Salicylic Acid is a great naturally derived active that works by exfoliating the oil producing glands and the follicles. It also reduces the amount of oil secreted by the skin! Using this ingredient will help prevent and treat oily skin, blackheads, whiteheads, pimples and even prickly heat! So, look for a face wash and a cream with this miracle active for clearer and less oily skin! Also, a body wash with Salicylic Acid and Triclosan will help ensure that your body breakouts disappear! Dont Over Wash!
Although we feel sweatier during the hot weather, it is not healthy to shower or wash your face more than twice a day. When you over wash, your skin loses much needed moisture, making it believe that it should produce more oil to give it back its hydration. So, in actuality, you end up getting more oil production over time instead of less! If you really feel sweaty and just need to take an extra shower, then use only cold water without the body wash for no more than 5 minutes. The same goes for washing your face! Change Your Routine!
While it may feel like you cant live without your foundation, in the summer weather, its best to go without. Foundation will only get runny in the hot and sunny outside conditions, resulting in it thinning and running down your face. Also, extra products on an already sweaty face can only serve to increase the clogged pores, making your skin more pimple-prone. Instead, stick to powders, tinted moisturizers or just plain concealer. Your skin will thank you at the end of the summer when your skin is clear and glowing!
Though not a permanent solution, women are increasingly going in for this option to trim their tresses.
Do you face the problem of split ends just a week post the haircut? Next time you go for a cut, ask your stylist to use hot scissors instead of traditional shears to trim the ends of your tresses. Already popular in the international markets, hot scissors, officially known as thermal scissors, are finding takers back home in India too. After all, these scissors are said to seal split ends with their heated blades. your hair, but heat from these scissors would not be more than 30 degrees. So the scissors are not damaging."
Heat effect
"I first heard of these scissors five years ago but they are regaining popularity, especially in the Indian market," says hairstylist Harish R Singh. Unlike traditional shears that open cuticles and leave your hair frizzy, the heat from these scissors traps the moisture in the hair and retains their natural qualities. Result: Your hair looks fresh for weeks. Moreover, these scissors can be used on all hair types and there is no risk of hair burning. Singh confirms, "The excessive heat from ironing and blow drying does a lot of damage to
Though popular, these scissors are not a permanent solution to repair split ends, say experts. Hairstylist Shailesh Moolya asserts, "They are definitely innovative, but hot scissors are only a fad. After some time, your hair will have split ends again. Moreover, only a hair expert can use them." When contacted, a few hairstylists in the city claim that they have shied away from using this tool. One of the reasons could be due to its high pricing. Singh opines, "Thermal scissors are said to be very expensive, ranging around `80,000." What are hot scissors? Hot scissors, officially known as thermal scissors, are used to seal split ends with their heated blades. Though not a permanent solution to repair split ends, the heat in the blades traps the moisture in the hair and retains their natural qualities.

Canada Beats Fiji In Mens Rugby For The First Time Since 1995
The Canadian mens rugby coach says his players are still learning how to win. They passed a pretty big test Wednesday night. Canada played an inspired second half then dug in its heels to prevent a late comeback in a 20-18 win over Fiji in Pacific Nations Cup play. It was Canadas first win over Fiji since 1995, and the first ever on Canadian soil. Its about learning how to win, said Canada head coach Kieran Crowley. A few years ago we might have lost that one because maybe we didnt have the physical fitness or physicality that the others had, but we certainly ground it out today and learning how to win is a big thing. With so few opportunities to compete in front of its fans, Canada was determined to give the home crowd something to cheer about. The Canadians didnt disappoint. Fiji appeared to have the physical advantage entering the game, but Canada managed to match their size and strength right from the start. We stuck to the game plan, we focused early that we were going to cut them low and if you dont have your legs underneath you then even the biggest guys come down, said Canadas Aaron Carpenter. We stuck to it and they only made a couple breaks off our silly mistakes, but other than that we stuck to it the whole game and it paid off. Canada was solid from start to finish, but their best effort came in the second half. Canada trailed 11-10 heading into halftime, but quickly regained momentum after scoring in the opening minutes of the second half. Connor Braid punted the ball into the try zone and Harry Jones rushed in and claimed the ball to score five points. The Canadians appeared poised to take complete control of the game after Taylor Paris ran the length of the field, but a last second change of direction in his trajectory led to Canada being called for a forward pass. Ray Barkwill made no mistake minutes later, running into the try zone after some great passing to give Canada a 20-11 lead. It proved to be the winning play of the game. It was good, Crowley said. The boys dug deep. The guys went 80 minutes and thats what it takes to gut it out in the end. The Fijians made it close, mounting a late rush to win the game. With Canada leading 20-11 Qera Akapusi punched his way across the try line and Jiuta Lutumailagi scored on the conversion to make it 20-18. But Canada managed to hold on for the win to the delight of the 4,548 on hand. Fiji head coach Inoke Male admitted fatigue may have been a factor in his teams play. Fiji played in Japan over the weekend and crossed 16 time zones before arriving in Canada. We were maybe a little jet-lagged, but its no excuse, Male said. Its about international rugby and we praise Canada and they played really well. Due to their extended travel Male said they also had little time to prepare for Canada and its style of play. We didnt have good preparation when we came here, Male said. Its time for us to go back to the blackboard and see what went wrong. After a number of close chances Canada opened the scoring early in the first half as Carpenter clawed his way across the try zone. Braid was successful on the conversion kick giving Canada a 7-0 lead. Scoring first was crucial for Canada as it got the home crowd into the game. As you could hear they were the 16th man and they gave us that extra little push, Carpenter said. Its always good to win on home soil. Minutes later Fijis Nadola Nemani managed to weave his way through traffic and found an open lane on the outside to run into the try zone. Koroilagilagi Setarekis conversion attempt went just wide making it 7-5. The two teams then went on to exchange penalties. The Fijians took their first lead of the game as Setareki converted his first penalty kick. Braid split the uprights to reclaim the lead, however it was short lived as Canada took another penalty and Setareki made the most of his opportunity giving Fiji an 11-10 halftime lead. Canadas Phil Mack was named the man of the match. The Canadians will now return to Kingston, Ont., where they have been training since late May, to face Tonga on Saturday. After a non-tournament match against Ireland in Toronto on June 15, they will make the trip to Japan to wrap-up Pacific Nations Cup play on June 19. Crowley has enjoyed having an opportunity to play in Canada and expects it to pay dividends down the road. I think its massive and the fact we could get the win was the icing on the cake for our group, said Crowley. Its about exposing the game and growing the game and these sorts of game are massive. Fiji will next play against the U.S. June 19 and against Tonga June 23. Both games will be in Japan. While claiming the Pacific Nations Cup would be nice, Rugby Canada has set its sights on a two-game, total-point series against the U.S. in August. The series winner will clinch a spot in the 2015 World Cup in England, while the loser will be forced into a secondary qualifying process. Fiji is now 1-1 in Cup play, while the Canadians are 2-0.

Extensions For The Sedin Twins Should Be A Priority For Vancouver Canucks
Savusavu
The Vancouver Canucks set out this summer with a longer to-do list than usual. After another postseason collapse, theyre currently looking for a new head coach, will be looking for a taker for their goaltender, and will try and upgrade a roster that has struggled in the springtime over the past several seasons. Those tasks should not take their attention away from what should be the top priority for the organization, though. Their two most marketable players, Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin, will be free agents next summer. Its time to look at an extension for the Swedish forwards. While some have been foolish enough to blame the Sedins for at least some of the playoff failures of the Canucks over the past several years, theyve been two of the most consistent players in the league. Theyve been terrific in the regular season and postseason alike, with each taking home some piece of individual hardware within the last couple of years. The pair ran away with the top scoring

numbers for the club in 2013. They were the only two players to break 40 points on the year. In fact, the third highest on the roster behind the two was 27, courtesy of Jannik Hansen. Henrik finished the year with 45 points, while Daniel followed closely with 40. Both Daniel and Henrik have been offensive powers in the past several seasons with the Canucks. Neither one of them has produced a season of under 70 points since the 2005-2006 season. Both of them have crossed the century mark for points once, with Daniel reaching 40 goals in 2010-11. The five-year extension they signed in 2009, which carries a cap hit over $6 million, will expire next summer. Which means that they will be free agents. Even with the recent playoff failures, the Canucks likely have no intention of letting the twins depart as free agents next summer. Talks have yet to begin between the two sides, but you can bet that the Canucks will begin exploring extensions with each of them in the very near future.

players that only eight players came from Savusavu to play Suva and Ba despite national league board giving them $3000 for the team to travel to Viti Levu and at the moment the investigation is currently underway to see what went wrong for the side, he said. According to Ibrahim the national league board is concern on the eligibility if number of players who took the field against Suva. My team is also investigating on the number of players who were registered and how many were not registered by the team but did take the field. I also received calls and people also came to me asking what had happen to the Savusavu side and why any of the officials came with the side didnt. This is also a major concern for us because what we are concern about is the welfare of the players billeting, food and few other things, he said.
The Vodafone Fiji FACT tournament will be held at ANZ Stadium in Suva on 15th and 16th of this month while the tournament proper will be played at Prince Charles Park in Nadi from 21st to 23rd of June.
