To the Scholarship Committee, I am delighted to write a few lines for Mr. Muhammd Hussain in the capacity of being his research advisor during his thesis project, The Portable Theater. I have known him for over four years since he was a student at National College of Arts. In order to spread fun through education and education through fun, this project had been invigorating. It has been a very educative process for me to have been involved in the thesis work as we moved forward with a methodical understanding and in the end it liberated us with a creative product. His project started with a study of a research framework about the introduction of Portable Theater in the outskirts of Lahore where we had encountered nomads of two kinds, settlers and non-settlers. This was the target audience of the intended project. Reading Hussains synopsis and his detailed research framework, my observation was; The kind of division that he has named, settlers and non-settlers is quite intriguing though the second part of his audience (people living in towns and villages outside and in remote areas) my advice was that we should concentrate on the second part of the audience. My advice was based on my own research conducted on the slums of the city and remote areas of the country which was very well manifested in the mood and character of the product. I have advised him in the dynamics of building up a research framework and amongst the other students (that I advice) his research conclusions were valid enough to take him closer to the awareness of reality. His project demanded transportability, collapsibility and productivity that Hussain met elegantly in his final Product. His project concluded in a portable product which reminded me of subcontinents first ever played Drama. The product itself which is a portable form of an arena where Kalidas wrote Sakuntla. It is the continuity of the same arena. I am still in close contact with Hussain as he is teaching at NCA where he was once a student. I teach some research and seminar courses in the esteemed institution and I see him growing day by day as a good design teacher. He has a vibrant personality and his commitment to his profession and dedication to his people is beyond any doubt, extraordinary. I believe his research skills may not be phenomenal but adequate enough to support a degree program. So far as his design skills are concerned he is methodical as well as creative. I heartily support his endeavor to enhance his education and I am sure he will not disappoint any of us. I strongly recommend him for the Fullbright Scholarship because I believe his promise would match his performance. Thanks you, Warm regards Sarmad Mansoor Cell: 00923218448721 Professor, National College of Arts, Lhr Beaconhouse National University, Lhr
