No.-9401564509 Introduction Components Working Advantages Some Hybrid Cars A hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) is a type of hybrid vehicle and electric vehicle which combines a conventional internal combustion engine with an electric motor. This is for a better fuel economy than a conventional vehicle for better performance. The most common form of HEV is the hybrid electric car. Also railway vehicles such as the diesel engine also work in the hybrid principle.

Components: Gasoline engine, Fuel tank, electric motor, generator, battery, transmission Working-The power from two sources i.e. from electric and gasoline engine can be combined in two ways1. PARALLEL HYBRID-The car has a gasoline engine and a set of batteries which are capable of giving power to the wheels at the same time or as required. 2. SERIES HYBRID-In this type of hybrid the gasoline engine never directly gives power to the wheels. The engine on the other hand runs an electric generator which charges a set of batteries which gives power to an electric motor to run the wheels. Advantages1. An accelerating or a fast moving car has a lot of kinetic energy. The brakes of a car remove this energy and dissipate it in the form of heat. A hybrid car can capture some of this energy and store it in the battery to use later. It does this by using "regenerative braking i.e., instead of just using the brakes to stop the car, the electric motor that drives the hybrid can also slow the car. In this mode, the electric motor acts as a generator and charges the batteries while the car is slowing down. 2. Many HEVs reduce idle emissions by shutting down the ICE at idle and restarting it when needed; this is known as a start-stop system.

3.

A hybrid-electric produces less emissions from its IC engine than a comparably-sized gasoline car, since an HEV's gasoline engine is usually smaller than a comparably-sized pure gasolineburning vehicle. Some Hybrid cars-Toyota Prius(right)
