 A is thrice as fast as B. A takes 60
days less than B to work, find the
number of days it will take to
complete the work, if both work
together, where in working together,
the rate of A increases by 1/3 and
that of B by ½ of the initial rate?
A is thrice fast, so A takes 1/3 days of B.
 3A = B; B-A = 60. or B = 60+A

 3A = 60 +A or 2A =60 or A = 30 and B =
90.

Solution continued . . .
 Now A’s one day’s work is 1/30 and B’s one
day’s work is 1/90. but A’s speed changes
and instead of 1/30, we have have 1/3 added
to it thus we have 1/30+1/3*1/30 or
1/30+1/90 = 4/90 and in the case of B
1/90+1/2*1/90 or 1/90+1/180 = 3/180 or 1/60.
 Add these we have 4/90+1/60 = (8+3)/180 or
180/11 = 16.36 = they will complete the work
in 16.36 days.

Solution: . . . .
 We have a chessboard, where we start putting white
pawns first. White pawns are used to form a square
by putting white in white place and there after black
ones are used to outline this square. if we have a
square of 2*2, there will be 2 spaces for white pawns.
Similarly, if there is square of 3*3, we may have
requirement of 5 white pawns. In this case we will
have requirement of 8 black pawns, which doesn’t
fulfill our requirements. Similarly try for 4*4 and 5*5,
6*6 squares. We get the answer in 5*5 square, and we
have 13 white and 12 black pawns (which fulfills our
requirements) thus we require 25 pawns. Answer.
