Flowsheet Set-up windows Blocks PFD Next button The basic form in Aspen Plus to run a simulation, the default main screen Input pages for the simulation Icons used in the flowsheet that model chemical engineering equipment. Process Flow Diagram; similar to the flowsheet, but you can add text, tables, and labels to the flowsheet Located in the upper right corner of the main screen; used to advance through the set-up windows

Toolbar menu Items

File Located in the Toolbar menu; save, open, delete files Import Export Forms Bring in a file to Aspen Plus from another application send a file to another application Located in the Toolbar menu; takes you to the set-up windows choices Next Input Set-up Components Properties Flowsheet Options Takes you to the next input window, just like the Next button on the toolbar menu The main set-up windows for any simulation, there you can change units or report information. Takes you to the components window, here you can enter the components involved in the simulation Properties window, here you can check the properties of the components that Aspen Plus has calculated for you. Simulation options, here you can find the Design-Spec mode and the mass balance mode

Streams Blocks Run Batch Check Results Check History Input Summary Flowsheet Options Section Reroute stream Align Blocks Exchange icons Analysis View Zoom Section Settings

Stream information window, here you can enter more stream information Block information window, here you can change specifications for each design block

Located in the Toolbar menu; gives you subheadings on simulations Batch window; here you can set up a batch operation Gives you the result window Gives you information on past simulations Shows you the input page that Aspen reads

Located in the Toolbar menu; gives you options on the flowsheet Gives you options on how to name and classify objects on the flowsheet Changes view to the section of the flowsheet you want to work on Changes the inlet port or outlet port of a particular stream Aligns you process blocks for a cleaner looking flowsheet Lets you change icons on the flowsheet screen

Located in the Toolbar menu; shows you properties for pure and mixed streams and can create Txy and Pxy diagrams Located in the Toolbar menu; gives you selection of view options Change the scale of the drawing; zoom in or zoom out, zoom full View only a section of the Flowsheet

Located in the toolbar menu; lets you change the default settings for the program; printer setup

Blocks
(The definitions as well as the specification for each block are given)

Feed/Prod Mixer Fsplit Sep Sep2 Ssplit Heater Flash2 Flash3 HeatX MheatX Column RStoic RYield REquil RGibbs RCSTR RPlug RBatch

Arrows for feed and product streams Block used for mixing two or more streams; one outlet stream Used to split total flow of a stream, composition remains the same, three outlets max Used to separate components located in feed stream; one component in each exit stream Used to separate feed streams; true separator; asks for mass/mole fractions in exit streams Used to separate substreams Used to change the stream temperature; asks for the temperature change or heat duty Two outlet flash drum; vapor and liquid; asks for temperature and pressure Three outlet flash drum; vapor, liquid and liquid; asks for temperature and pressure Common heat exchanger with two streams (hot and cold), asks for temperature change, heat duty, area, # of tubes, etc. Heat exchanger with multiple process streams Distillation columns, cooling towers, absorbers, strippers Stochiometric reactor; asks for stochiometry and conversion Reactor; asks for stochiometry and yield of reaction Reactor, ideal for equilibrium reactions; asks for kinetics Reactor, uses Gibbs free energy for calculations Continuous stirred tank reactor; asks for kinetics of reaction Plug flow reactor; asks for kinetics of reaction Batch reactor, asks for kinetics of reaction
