Weve all been to the gas station and come up 2 cents short of being able to pay to the exact

penny. Standing at the counter you look down and see this little plastic cup of change that says, Give a penny, take a penny. Arnt you grateful you can grab 2 pennies so that you dont end up getting $.98 in change back! Its just a small way we can be neighbors to each other. Within Watermark there have been people who have needed small favors like borrowing a weed whacker because theirs broke or getting a helping hand to finish off painting some hard to reach places. On the other side, there are people who wish they could help out more but just dont know who might need help. To bridge the gap, we started the Community Jar. The Community Jar (SentOnMission.com/ project) gives Watermarkers a forum to help each other out as a faith family. If youre a life group leader and you want to find a project

for your group to serve together on, check out the possibilities. If youre in a position where you hate to inconvenience anyone, but for whatever reason youre in a jam and need a hand, get the word out. If you want to help out a neighbor, but you could use a couple more hands and your life group is busy, put a shout out on the Community Jar. Youll even find some of our community partners on there with some of their projects from time-to-time. Its very easy to use: find a project you can help with, enter your name / email / phone number and then hit submit. Only the project owner will see your personal information so you dont have to worry about it being posting on the website. And believe it or not, it is just as easy to submit a project! Check it out at SentOnMission.com! Everyone is a part of the community, whether you have a need or can help a need.

Summer Sabbatical
Dear Faith Family, I want to thank you for the investment you are making in me and my family, this Summer, through the blessing of a Sabbatical. We are overwhelmed with gratitude at the generosity of Watermark and the opportunity to be refreshed and renewed this Summer. A key teaching of Jesus for me this Summer is found in John 15:5, in which Jesus declares, Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in Me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from Me you can do nothing. Therefore, my main goal this Summer is to deepen my relationship with God by listening to Him and asking God two questions every day: How do you want me to remain with You today? & What fruit do You want to produce through me today? The Sabbatical is an opportunity to focus on those questions and seek to lead from a vibrant relationship with Jesus. I would so appreciate your prayers! Here is how you can pray: For safe travels in the midst of a lot of traveling. That I would hear Gods voice and obey. That I would be filled afresh with the Holy Spirit and renewed. That our family time would be meaningful, fun, and deepen us as a family. That God would use our family to love and encourage others along the way. Some of the basic things I am doing: Our family is traveling out West for three weeks throughout the month of June. I am going to Ethiopia with my daughter Autumn on a mission trip in July. I am traveling with my father to Turkey to study Biblical sites in August. I will be reading, journaling, meeting with mentors, and other life-giving activities.

I will certainly miss being around all of you this Summer. However, I am looking forward to returning refreshed in order to join you in taking another step in deepening our relationship with God and courageously participating in His mission. I pray that this Summer will be a time of spiritual and relational growth for Watermarkers. Perhaps we all can take the lead from Jesus in John 15:5 and seek to deeply connect in Jesus Christ so that we might together produce much fruit. I love you and I thank God that we get to be Gods family on mission together. Have an awesome Summer and see you at the Baptism on August 25th! Your brother in Christ, - Steve Deur

Lots of memories were made in Surf City this year. I would like to say Thanks to all of our amazing volunteers who took time to serve and make a difference in the kids lives throughout the school year. We couldnt have done it without you! This summer we will continue to have a fully functioning Surf City every Sunday morning during both gatherings. Starting July 14th, we will begin gathering outside at Mulligans Hollow during 2nd gathering. During these gatherings we have a few adults to help watch the kids so they can play on the Imagination Station. New this Summer: Come hang out with Miss Bethany at Pottawatomie Park. We will have a lot of fun with games, activities and yummy snacks.

We will meet on four Wednesday mornings from 9:30am - Noon thoughout July and August. Check out the dates and themes below for each of the weeks. We also ask that all children are accompanied by an adult. In the case of rain, check the Surf City Parents Facebook page or SentOnMission.com for information on time/location changes. My desire is to create a fun place not only for our kids to connect with each other but also to build community between families. Plus, I think we have a great opportunity to connect with other families who might be at the park. I am looking forward to staying connected with each of you over the summer and hope to see you at the park! - Bethany Wilson Surf City Director

Meet Jeff Johnson

At Watermark, everyone is a minister. Everyone. Jesus left all of us with the exact same mission and didnt elevate anyone as more important than another. Its been so cool to see how different Watermarkers have taken that mission to their workplaces and live it out. Jeff Johnson is one of those Watermarkers. Hes worked at the Ottawa County Road Commission for 33 years culminating in being the Operations Superintendent. Thats his title, but Jeff has been a minister at the road commission. You ask anyone who has worked with Jeff and theyll tell you who they go to for counsel, or prayer, or encouragement Jeff Johnson. So when Jeff was forced to take an early retirement due to cancer, he still had this gifting and passion that drives him. In the New Testament you read of how God set

certain people apart for specific tasks. Once, while the church in Antioch was fasting and praying, the Spirit told them to lay hands on Paul and Barnabas to send them out as church planters. For Timothy, it was all about recognizing the gifts and talents God had given him. So the church got around him, laid hands on him and told him to use those gifts as a minister. Recognizing Jeffs God-given gifts, weve invited him to be a part of our Watermark staff, laid hands on him and prayed over him. Because we havent had a completely volunteer staff person since the first few of years of our journey, we are excited to have Jeff serve as our Outreach and Care Pastor! If you would like prayer, a listening ear, sage advice, or even someone to perform your wedding, hook up with Jeff. You can reach him at: jeff@sentonmission.com or 616.566.7050.

Jesus busted through walls like the Kool-Aid man/pitcher did in the 1970s. Its a little known axiom that the best way to tear a wall down is to put a

Oh Yeah! Only the effect was much less creepy and much more freeing. wall up.* The churches of our area are proving the paradox yet again. Every few years, all of our faith families link arms and live out the Good News tangibly, visibly, together. This summer were out to do it again, building a house with a family in our area that desperately needs adequate affordable housing, and a second chance.

The Exton family currently lives with extended family in woefully substandard housing, cramming their family of four into a 10x12 room. Black mold keeps them going to the doctors office every other week with various illnesses. And because of Brad Extons past felony convictions, they dont qualify to rent anywhere. This is where the church is at its best. A community of people who have been given repeated second chances coming alongside a family in dire need of another chance. Honestly, we dont get to see the church at its best very often. The press covers all the failures and shortcomings. We hear through the gossip chain about the hypocrisy of her people and leaders. So its a breath of fresh air to join in something so life giving. Before we can put up a single wall or pour a drop of concrete for the foundation we need to raise 100% of the funds. Our goal is to partner with other area churches in raising $50,000 before August 1st. Once funded we can break ground and dedicate

the finished home all in three months. But putting up walls means we have to tear down the walls that have so often kept us apart. Consider how you and your family could give to this project. Then find every other follower of Jesus in your neighborhood or workplace, regardless of where they worship, and invite them to join you in making this happen. Everyone can give at their own churches by marking Habitat in the memo line or on the giving envelope. As the time approaches, youll have the opportunity to give your time at any of the various stages of raising a house. Whether youre skilled or have never lifted a hammer, there are plenty of opportunities to play a part in tearing down walls by putting walls up. *This is actually not an axiom at all. It was completely made up by the author to try and make a clever point, which explains why youve never heard of it.

Baptism
Sunday, August 25th
But now you have arrived at your destination: By faith in Christ you are in direct relationship with God. Your baptism in Christ was not just washing you up for a fresh start. It also involved dressing you in an adult faith wardrobe-Christs life, the fulfillment of Gods original promise. - Galatians 3:25-27 (Message)
The word baptism literally means submerging or dipping. Imagine a piece of white cloth being fully and completely submerged into purple dye. When the cloth is removed it would now be identified with the purple dye because it was immersed and overwhelmed by the dye and, therefore, changed. When someone is baptized they go public with their trust in Jesus and their decision to follow Him. They are submerged into the water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I love this passage in Galatians because it makes an important point. When someone is raised out of the water they now identify themselves with Jesus. Baptism is proclaiming that the old life is gone and, in Jesus, the new life has arrived! This powerful public act was experienced by Jesus, commanded by Jesus, and carried out for two thousand years by followers of Jesus. Have you put your hope and trust in Jesus? Have you gone public with your faith? Have you been baptized? Baptism is not for people with perfect lives. Baptism is the starting line of faith-not the finish line of perfection. Therefore, if youve experienced the grace and forgiveness of God through Jesus, baptism is for you. Dont wait to get better before going public with what God has done for you in Jesus! The baptism gathering is always a time of tremendous celebration. Please celebrate with us on Sunday, August 25th, at 10:30am at Grand Haven State Park. If you would like to be baptized or have questions, please fill out the ConnectMe Card or contact Angela at: angela@sentonmission.com.
