June 15, 2013 Position Paper about Cebu Pacifics Overshooting of Runway (June 2 Mishap) and Note about Striking of Runway Lights (June 13 Incident)
Lives were endangered needlessly because of a company's crass incompetence. The June 2 incident of flight 5J 971, carrying 165 passengers speaks much about ineffectiveness for emergency responses and unconcern to passengers. On Sunday Evening, the said flight overran the runway and hit its uncemented portion at around 7:10pm. Very thankful we are because no one was hurt. However, we could not do away with the fact that such incident had its potentiality to cause a grave industrial upset about aviations handling of customers. At any rate, it did cause an uproar--and it did mark precedence from then on. Whilst Cebu Pacific calls for a safe landing, testimonies of passengers and taken pictures wont deceive the veering off to the right side of Davao International Airport runway and the terror that s much happening inside of it. Passengers were on panic, yet cabin crew did not do much pacifying. The pilot even had to leave the plane in an emergency exit found on his cabin instead of calming down the situation. Even after evacuation was done, not by the crew, but by some heroic passengers on board, there was no tender of even a glass of water, or a genuine concern to passengers by asking how they were doing. A travesty of Cebu Pacifics Vision We are reputed for our unparalleled genuine warm and caring service! Other actors could be jointly liable to the incident like the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and the Davao International Airport personnel, but primus inter pares tells us that while miscommunication was a hindrance for a speedy and effective emergency evacuation assistance, the cabin crew should have been more tendering to in pacifying the terror and that happened while the incident was on hand. The personnel should have assessed and asked grievances and concerns to the passengers while they we re waiting for at least half an hour after evacuation. Genuine concern to your passengers should have been manifested, especially in times of those unforeseen crucial moments. Its truly an unusual act to be so caring when things are at their normalcy. It is, however, mandatory for the personnel of Cebu Pacific to exercise due care and competence in such mishap. It should have been mandatory. It should have been reflex. We are in the light of our Universitys Ignatian Pedagody of Contextembodying cura personalis: the personal care and concern for others, while we voice out our viewpoint and framework of service towards the mishap that happened. May this incident be a milestone for more reflection and action about your vision:We are reputed for our unparalleled genuine warm and caring service PS: We pray in the name of the Lord that the crew and personnel of Cebu Pacific in the June 13, 2013 incident Flight 448, carrying 95 passengers inbound from Iloilo that struck the runway lights in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, were more attentive and reflexive of the concerns and grievances of their passengers. We are grateful still that no one was injured. Let no life be endangered needlessly because of your company's crass incompetence. Nothing follows
