What do we do:
Unlock is an independent non-party-political group of everyday people who have come together as a community advocacy organisation with the aim to build a balanced and enlightened Tasmania. By giving grass-roots Tasmanians the opportunity to get involved and come together Unlock members become a strong voice to counter the lies and exaggerations of the anti-everything groups. Together we fight for jobs, we fight for a future here and we fight for balance the balance between the three pillars of our community jobs and the economy, community and social needs and managing our environment. It is Unlocks aim that each of the three pillars is strong, healthy and sustainable. Whether it is by signing a petition, sending an email to a member of parliament, engaging with the media, attending an event or helping to create video clips or ads on television, Unlock members take a positive, targeted action to pushback and to lead real change in this region.

How were doing:

Since our start in September 2012 we have grown to over 200 members, become incorporated and completed the background steps to make sure we are an organisation built on a solid foundation. Weve been part of three major Rallys, forums and had stands at local shows as well as releasing comment at every opportunity on jobs, the future of the state and giving people a future here. At Unlock we strongly believe in fighting for something and not fighting against someone, that is we believe in creating a positive future but at the same time choose to not allow anti-jobs and antidevelopment claims to go unchallenged. We have petitioned the Senate to change the laws which grant environmental groups exemptions for the laws which apply to every other Australian and to change the taxation exemptions which allow them to operate as a charity and completely untaxed. Groups like ours who fight against the extreme environmental groups are not eligible for these exemptions a very uneven playing field. This issue is a huge one and must be pursued. Our facebook page has over 300 followers. And we have written submissions to the UN opposing the extension of the World Heritage areas in Tasmania and supporting Ventures Riley mine.

Whats next:
Promoting the image that the majority of Tasmanians want jobs and a state that is open for business is next on our agenda. We set out a five point plan and continue to work to achieve each of these. See our website for the details on the Five Point Plan.

Your donation and support will help us to extend and support our lobbying works. We currently get funding from individuals, families and small businesses. Most of the time is contributed voluntarily with limited repayment for supplies and expertise. There is much on which comment is needed and we would like to be able to add our voice to lobbying for balance in the use and allocation of our resources for all.
