SYLLABUS

1st Semester, AY 2012 2013 I. II. III. Course No.: EDUC 17 Course Title: Developmental Reading Course Description: Developmental reading is a kind of reading in which the materials are scientifically prepared and aimed at developing the reading skills of learners. Vocabulary and sentence structures are controlled and follow a set of criteria for sequencing. IV. Credit Hours/Weeks/Semester Prerequisite/s : : : 3 units 54 hours/18weeks/1 semester

Course Requirements and Classroom Policies 1. Students are required to attend classes. Any missed activity/quiz will not be given, unless supported by sufficient documentary evidence. 2. Students are required to actively participate in classroom discussions and are encouraged to raise relevant questions should they desire to do so. 3. Recitations are on a daily basis. Should a student miss his/her turn to recite, a default grade of 60 will be given to him/her. Such grade will only be disregarded upon presentation of sufficient proof of his/her absence. 4. Students are required to submit a reflection/reaction paper for every article/passage/essay assigned to them. 5. Any student guilty of plagiarism will automatically be given a failing grade. An online plagiarism checker will be used by the instructor to ensure proper citation. There will be no room for discussion nor consideration. 6. A final grade of 5.0 will be given to any student caught cheating during quizzes/exams. 7. Eating or drinking is not allowed while the class is ongoing.
