Groundbreaking planned for Mammoth Springs development

A groundbreaking is planned at 1 p.m. June 24 for the Mammoth Springs development at N63 W23231 Main Street in Sussex. Mammoth Springs a $19 million mixed use development will be located on property where a cannery was located during the last century. The development will include more than 150 residential units, more than 12,000 square feet of commercial space, and a walking path highlighting the sites stunning three acre quarry pond. "Ever since I purchased this property over two years ago I have been anxiously waiting for this day. The Mammoth Springs Development will be one of the best and most unique mixed used developments in Waukesha County, developer Arthur Sawall said in a statement issued by the village of Sussex. It will be a stunning development, and a great place for people to live with majestic views of the quarry pond. People will be able to enjoy the outdoors with the Bug Line Trail as well as scenic walks around the magnificent quarry or shop and relax in the seating area under the pergola and clock tower. It really is a tremendous honor to lead this development and I appreciate the strong business support of the community and the Village for making this possible."

By Ann Bare "Oh dear," you think to yourself. "My sister gets cranky so easily. My best friend, although I love her dearly, is unpredictable and undependable. I have some friends from school, but we rarely talk and really only keep in touch through Facebook. My coworkers are becoming friendlier, but we are not what I would call friends yet. I'm getting married in six months and I want to have a stress-free wedding. Whom do I choose to be in my wedding party?" It's not always possible to select the "perfect" attendants. Personalities, traditions, expectations and cultural mores can influence a bride's choice of her maid or matron of honor and her bridesmaids. There are those who expect to be asked to be in your wedding; after all, you were in theirs. Your sisters and closest cousins would be natural choices-especially to Mom and sweet Auntie. Your best friend and you pinky-swore years ago that you would be at each other's side, but now her life decisions are not making her a suitable choice. The hard-todecide task just got more difficult. So whose wedding is it anyway? You want to look back on this day and have pleasant memories so make your decisions accordingly. What do you want to remember? Pasted smiles on an array of size 3 gals and tuxedoed handsome men flanking a radiant couple? The hope of having your wedding photo featured in the hometown paper's next bridal insert? Beautifully coiffed hairstyles and tiny ankles beneath tea-length dresses? What will really make your day happily memorable?

Do you even have to have attendants? Centuries ago the role of the maid of honor or bridesmaid was to attend to the bride several days before her wedding; an additional role of attendants, both bridesmaids and groomsmen, was to dress similarly to the wedded couple in order to confuse evil spirits or jealous suitors who might try to sabotage the wedding or in some way harm the couple. Thankfully, the duties have become less risky and demanding and may be as simple as signing as a witness to the marriage. (Because state laws vary, verify how many witnesses' signatures are needed on the marriage certificate.) In selecting whom you will ask to stand up for you at your wedding, first share your concern with your fiance and consider his input. Then consider those who are dear to you and whom you respect. The person whom you select should see the opportunity as both an honor and a privilege to be standing at your side. Perhaps there is an older woman whose marriage you admire. Maybe your childhood friend would laugh with you before, during and after the ceremony, adding to a life full of meaningful experiences. Perhaps your sister has become the trusted confidante you have come to appreciate and she would be the "perfect" choice. Perhaps a male friend would serve as your bridesman (with your fiance's approval, of course). The choice is yours. The goal of your bridal party selection is to enhance your memorable day with favorable circumstances and experiences. Choose wisely...and enjoy your day!

Templeton students named in Wisconsin YES! contest Templeton Middle School eighthgraders Benjamin Evans and Colin Mittelstaedt were named finalists in the Wisconsin YES! competition. Evans "AntiFat Band" and Mittelstaedts "Water Power 2.0" business plans placed in the top 17 entries. Students submitted their ideas in a 250-word online summary to compete in the first phase of the competition. The finalists prepared a 1,000-word executive summary covering company overview, product or service description, customer definition, market description, size and sales strategy, competition, management team, financials and capital needs. Modeled after the successful Governors Business Plan contest, Wisconsin YES! is designed to teach students how innovation in science and technology fields can be developed into plausible business plans. It allows students to explore the connections between science, technology and entrepreneurship. From page 1
Village President Greg Goetz added: "For close to two decades now the site has been absent of economic life and June 24 starts a new chapter for the area. The buildings and the site design continue to transform that corner and I look forward to the vibrancy that this development brings with it. I love Sussex and am so happy to see the development finally become reality." The development will take several years to complete. Site work, the rerouted County Bugline Trail and two 30 unit high end residential buildings will be established in 2013.

Prep baseball: Germantown rallies to beat Slinger

Slinger was on the wrong end of a Germantown rally as the Warhawks scored six runs in the fourth inning on the way to a 10-9 win June 18. Slinger held a 5-2 lead after three innings and scored three more runs in the top of the fourth inning. But Germantown followed six runs in the fourth inning with four coming from a grand slam by Blake Fleischman and single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Slinger added one run in the seventh inning before Germantown closed out the win. Afterward, Germantown remained in first place in the North Shore Conference with a 6-1 record and a 8-4 overall mark. Germantown opened the week with a 14-2 win at Cedarburg June 17. Menomonee Falls split the first two games of last week, losing to West Allis Central June 17 3-1 but then rebounding with a 7-4 win at Oak Creek. Against Central, Menomonee Falls allowed two runs in the fifth inning after scoring its lone run in the previous inning. Against Oak Creek, Menomonee Falls scored six of its runs in the fourth inning. Michael Bowe pitched five innings for the win. Following the Oak Creek game, Menomonee Falls was third in the Greater Metro Conference with a 8-5 conference record and a 12-7 overall mark. Hamilton was seventh in the Greater Metro with a 6-7 record and a 10-8 overall mark following a 4-3 win over Arrowhead June 19 in a game that went 10 innings. Hamilton opened the week with an 11-4 loss to Marquette but rebounded with a 3-0 win over West Allis Central the next day.

Menomonee Falls Village Board notes

Falls delays action on restaurant request

Auto repairs are costly -even a minor repair can run major dollars.
What if you dont have the money?
The two suspects in the May 16 armed robbery at the Appleton Avenue McDonald's in Menomonee Falls are in custody in another community. During the June 17 Menomonee Falls Village Board meeting, Village Trustee Jim Jeskewitz asked Police Chief Anna Ruzinski if the suspects had been caught. Ruzinski replied that the suspects are in custody for three robberies in the city of Milwaukee. "We're putting our case together," Ruzinski said. The restaurant came to the board with a request to amend the conditional use permit to allow the business to be open 24 hours. However, no one from the business appeared at the meeting to explain security measures, which was one of the conditions for approval when the item was supported by the Plan Commission at its June 4 meeting. As a result, the board tabled the item. Contract approved for fire station design The Menomonee Falls Village Board approved a contract with The Architectural Workshop LLC for the design of two new fire stations, with funds coming from the 2013 capital budget. The contract will be for the design of new fire stations at the southwest corner of Main Street and Menomonee Avenue and on the north side of Silver Spring Drive just west of One Mile Road. The Main Street station will replace Fire Station #1 along Appleton Avenue while the Silver Spring station will be the fifth station in the Falls. Trustee Jim Jeskewitz said the Appleton Avenue station was constructed in 1929 and has insufficient space for current operations. The new fire station #1 will be located on a property previously owned by the School District of Menomonee Falls. The current building on the site was used as a school early in the last century and later as work space for the district maintenance department. Jeskewitz said fire station #5 will be located on property where a new well was installed a few years ago. Jeskewitz said both stations will be used by police officers to fill out reports so the officers don't have to return to the Police Station facility on Pilgrim Road. Jeskewitz said that by designing the fire stations at the same time the village is hoping to save money. The design portion of the project will cost $342,200. The construction of the new stations will occur in 2014. By Thomas J. McKillen, Managing Editor
