Thara, Ayla and Arleen Grade 10 Web 2.

Criteria C: Plan

Who does what?

We had a look at the design cycle checklist and came up with the following list of
things we have to do in order to finish this project:
Section of the DC Who has completed it
Investigation 1: Identify the Problem Thara
Investigation 2: Research 1. Together
1. What is Web 2.0? 2. Arleen
2. What hard-and software changes have been made 3. Ayla
to Web 1.0 in order to create Web 2.0? 4. Ayla
3. What are the positive aspects of using Web 2.0 as 5. Arleen
an educational tool? 6. Thara
4. What are the negative side effects of using Web 2.0 7. Thara
as an educational tool? 8. Arleen
5. How do teachers feel about using Web 2.0 for 9. Arleen
teaching?
6. How do the students feel about the use of Web 2.0
for their education?
7. Which software can we use to present our ideas to
our school Board?
8. How will we know if our product works?
9. Who/how will test it?

Investigation 3: Formulate design brief Arleen

Investigation 4: Formulate design specification Arleen
Design 1: Make first design Ayla
Design 2: Make second design Arleen
Desing 3: Make third design Thara
Design 4: Evaluate designs against design spec. Together
Design 5: Choose one design and develop it Together
Plan 1: Create gantt chart Arleen
Plan 2: Create steps for each criteria Thara
Plan 3: Create materials list Ayla
Plan 4: Evaluate the plan Ayla
Create 1: Create the product Together
Create 2: Write process journal Thara
Create 3: Screen shots and photos with descriptions of Ayla
the product
Evaluate 1: performance on each stage
Evaluate 2: Comments on time management Personal response for each
Evaluate 3: Impact on surroundings of us

Evaluate 4: Feedback Ayla

Evaluate 5: Answer the essential questions Each of us will answer one
of the essential questions
since we have three

Gantt Chart

From this Gantt chart we can see that to create our whole design cycle, this will take
us about 880 minutes this translates to about 14.6 hours. We think that this amount
of time is reasonable. Because we have about 6 weeks to finish the design cycle,
and every week we have 3 classes of 50 minutes. This means we have 900 minute
to work on this project in class; and also an April break. This gives us enough
flexibility to work on our own pace.

Step that will lead us to finishing our project:

Investigation – 135 minutes – 13th or March till 03rd of April
To complete this criterion we have to first describe the problem/task as we
understood it. Then we will write an explanation on why the problem is important,
relating it to life in general and explaining it relating it to society. We will have to
explain why solving this problem is relevant to the AOI’s. We will answer the guiding
questions set by our teacher and the research questions we have made up
ourselves using my research and surveys were appropriate.
We will site all the sources at the end of my research in the works cited. Then we
will write a design brief and create a design specification explaining essential and
desirable characteristics of our product.

Design – 200 minutes – 06th of April till 19th of April

We will all make one design and in total include 3 different designs and explain all
parts of it, proving that it will be a solution to the initial problem. We will then
evaluate the designs against the design spec. together. Then we will choose one
particular design that we feel is the best fit and justify why we choose it. Finally we
will evaluate our performance in the designing stage.

Plan – 60 minutes – 13th March till 30th of March

We will include a Gantt chart and shown planning and scheduling of tasks over time.
We will include a step by step plan. We will critically evaluate the time plan. We will
justify any changes to the original plan. Also, we will think of a list with all the
materials that we need.

Create – 120 minutes – 20th of April till 28th of April

We will write in the process journal at the end of every class to describe what we
have done that day. We will explain how and what we used. We will include photos
to prove that we have made it ourselves. We will make notes of things that
changed.

Evaluate – 60 minutes – 28th of April to 30th of April

We will include feedback. We will analyze the results of questionnaires. We will

include an evaluation of our own performances at each stage of the design cycle.
We will include comments about our time management and plan. And finally we will
include a discussion on the impact of our product on us and our surroundings.

Materials/programs/etc that we will need:

– The program Movie Maker
– Sound recording program
– Images of Web 2.0
– A YouTube account

Evaluation of Plan:
Our plan is detailed, it shows what we did every day, we will do what, but most
important of all we have a Gantt chart. This chart helps us to plan how much time
we need for all the different steps of our design cycle. Because we used so much
detail in our plan this will help us a lot to finish our design cycle on time. Since we
planned our work in groups of days and not in single days it is easier to stick to the
plan since this way we can plan our homework more easily.
We have chosen multiple ways of showing what has to be done in what amount of
time on what days, therefore it should be pretty straightforward for someone else to
follow our plan.
We are with three people for this assignment therefore, it will be easier to finish this
design cycle on time. We planned a lot, and are positive that our plan is good,
detailed enough and has prepared us for knowing exactly how much we have to do
in order to finish.

Changes to the plan:

Because Thara and Arleen both missed one week due to family issues in Holland,
and another 3 days because of SAISA, we, together with our teacher, came to an
understanding that we will have an extended due date, instead of Wednesday the
30th, our design cycle will be due the following Monday.
