Nontuk (Nandaka) a demon, is assigned to wash the feet of the deities who pay visits to Phra Isuan (Isvara)

at the foot of Mount Krailas (Kailasa). Traumatized by the deities who keep knocking his head until he goes bald, the anguished demon requests that he be given a diamond index finger that is fatal to those it points to. When the deities bully him again, Nontuk points his finger and kills masses of them. Phra Isuan thus assigns Phra Narai to subdue Nontuk. Phra Narai appears as Nang Upsorn (Upsara) or a celestial maiden and dances to lure in the demon to follow her dance and points his index finger at his own leg. This causes him to fall. Phra Narai curses him to reborn with ten faces, twenty hands and magical power. Phra Narai will be reborn a mere human with two hands, and his task will be to wipe out the demon's clan. After Nontuk has died, he is reborn as Tosakanth (Ravana) and Phra Narai is reborn as Phra Ram (Rama). Phra Ram is a son of King Tosarot (Dasaratha) ruler of Ayudhaya City, and Queen Kaosuriya. He has three half-brothers, Phra Prot (Bharata) born to Queen Keiyakesi, Phra Lak (Laksamana) and Phra Satrud (Satrugha) born to Queen Samutdevi. Phra Ram is married to Sida (Sita), who is a daughter of Tosakanth, but there is an incident that she has to be adopted daughter of Tao Chanok Chakrawad. In the past, Queen Keiyakesi once helped King Tosarot out of a crisis. As a reward, he granted her a wish, so she asked him to hand down the throne to Phra Prot and banish Phra Ram from the City for 14 years. By his father's order, Phra Ram thus has to depart the City for a life in the forest and is accompanied by Phra Lak and Sida. Tosakanth, the ruler of Longka City, hears of Sida's exceptional beauty. He forces Mareet to turn himself into a golden deer to tempt her. Sida is taken with this deer and so she begs her husband to go and catch it for her. Phra Ram shoots his arrow at the deer and before it dies, it gives a cry imitating Phra Ram's voice, expressing the pain of being wounded. Led to believe that her husband is in danger, Sida calls on Phra Lak to help save Phra Ram. Tosakanth takes this chance to abduct Sida. In the mean time, Sadayu (Jatayu), the Bird, a friend of King Tosarot faces with Tosakanth who is carrying Sida off to Longka. Sadayu fights with Tosakanth to save Sida. Tosakanth removes the ring from Sida and throws it at the Bird whose wings are broken causing it to fall to the ground. With the ring in its beak, Sadayu waits for Phra Ram and informs him of the abduction before finally dying. After that several battles take place between Phra Ram and Tosakanth for the possession of Sida. Phra Ram is aided by a number of warriors Hanuman, Sukreep, and other monkey soldiers. He also has Pipek, brother of Tosakanth, who has been banished from Longka, to act as his advisor in this combat. On his part, Tosakanth has as his assistants, his brother, Kumpakan, his son, Indrachit, and other demons. The most outstanding chief monkey warrior that serves Phra Ram at the battlefield is Hanuman, who is blessed with intelligence that contributed to Phra Ram's victories. He is renowned for his self-sacrifice, honesty and loyalty to Phra Ram.

4 At last, all the demons but Tosakanth are destroyed. Phra Ram finds
later that the Demon could not be vanquished because his heart had been removed and kept in a box by Kobut Richi. Hanuman uses a trick to obtain this box and thus enables Phra Ram to slay the Demon with an arrow. After the battles of Longka are over, Sida proves that she had maintained her chastity by walking into a burning pyre. Phra Ram then escorts her back to Ayu-dhaya City and rewards all his simian helpers.

Later, Nang Adul, Tosakanth's relative, deceives Sida into drawing a picture

depicting the likeness of Tosakanth and lets her soul take possession of the picture. Seeing this portrait, Phra Ram is enraged and orders Phra Lak to execute Sida. His brother cannot bring himself to perform the act and so he sets her free. She then seeks refuge with Phra Vatchamaruekha Richi and gives birth to Phra Mongkut (Mankuta) in the forest. One day, the Richi is led to think that Phra Mongkut has died. He then creates Phra Lop (Lava) in place of Phra Mongkut. Since then Phra Lop becomes Phra Mongkut's younger brother. One day the young princes shoot the arrows given to them by the Richi, creating a roar that resonates to Ayudhaya City. Phra Ram, Phra Lak and their troops set off to see them. They come into fight with each other, Phra Mongkut and Phra Lop shoot the arrows that turn into flowers, while Phra Ram's arrows, into sweets. Puzzled by the incident, Phra Ram asks Phra Mongkut and finds out that he is his son. When Phra Ram meets Sida, he wants to invite her back to the City. Sida declines and escapes to Badal, the underworld. Phra Ram goes into the forest for another year to correct the ill omens that besiege him. Upon his return, Phra Isuan sets up a lavish wedding rite on the Mount Krailas to celebrate the reunion of Phra Ram and Sida.
