Assignment 1 1. Analytical Philosophy describes philosophy through analysis understanding and

interpreting the composition of a subject matter. To understand a subject matter through analytical philosophy, its method aims to focus on the finer details of the matter, rather than on a large part of it. It also aims to explain an issue without vagueness. While speculative philosophy aims to describe philosophy through beliefs without concrete proof. According to dictionaries, it also attempts to gain insight into the nature of the ultimate by intuitive or priori means. Thus, it differs much from analytical philosophy because speculative philosophy seeks to explain a subject matter through bold beliefs, unlike in analytical philosophy which strives to explain a subject matter explicitly. 2. Eastern and Western Philosophy differs very much from where it has been derived to the

teachings and beliefs it holds. Western Philosophy has its roots in Athens, Rome and Judeo Christianity, while Eastern Philosophy is derived from Confucianism, Taoism and Mahayana Buddhism (Onn, 2013). Eastern Philosophy has been greatly influenced by Confucianism, thus spreading collectivism. Collectivism involves mutual dependence of every member of a society on one another. Western Philosophy, on-the-other-hand, practices individualism - valuing independence and self-reliance. Another characteristic which contrast Eastern Philosophy from Western is its holistic idea. It believes in unity, wholesomeness and indivisibilty of each individuals. Unlike in Western Philosophy, its views the world in a separable and fragmented view. The division between the

mind and the body has led to a view of the universe as a mechanical system consisting of separate objects, which in turn were reduced to fundamental building blocks whose properties and interactions were thought to completely determine all natural phenomena (Onn, 2013). Another difference Eastern Philosophy holds from Western Philosophy is it's thought is based on the notion of the Yin and the Yang. Though both possess different characteristics, when the two are combined, they perform in perfect harmony and dynamic. In Western Philosophy, however, based itself on conflict - a struggle between Good and Evil, God and Satan, or Psyche and Cupid (Onn, 2013). Lastly, the two philosophies differ from their idea of a proper government. Eastern countries believed in pragmatism and confucianistic idea of social hierarchy, unlike for western countries who relied on idealism and a democratic government.
