opportunity?
We want to invite you to develop a business oriented to manufacturing food products with a larger shelf life to participate in the food recuperation market in Colombia. One third of food production destined to human consumption (approximately 1.300 million tons) are either lost or wasted around the world every year. In Latin America this waste means 100 million tons. In developing countries, these take place due to infrastructure instability, low technological levels, and lack of investment in food production systems. Food waste and loss situations become paradoxical when compared against the amount of people who lack safe access to sucient quantity of safe and nutritious food for normal growth and development and an active and healthy life, that is to say they live in food insecurity. 40.8% of the population in Colombia lives in food insecurity. In the city of Medellin, this situation is lived in 21.6% of homes.
'Buen Provecho' is launched under the public-private partnership Alianza Pioneros de la Innovacin Social that includes the National Agency for Overcoming Extreme Poverty (ANSPE), ten private enterprises in the country, the Multilateral Investment Fund and three foundations, whose eorts are focused on market incentives at the base of the pyramid. This opportunity have been identied by the Archdiocesan Food Bank Foundation of Medellin, a non-prot social institution that helps beginning with the improvement of food security and nutritional wellbeing of vulnerable persons served by social entities of Medellin and the metropolitan area. It carries out its work recovering, collecting, and distributing food and other goods collected through its extensive network of associates, which includes large and small food producing companies, large areas of food sales, food distribution centers in the city, and small agricultural producers in the region.
