The Jose Maria College High School alumni took a step back to their Alma Mater as they participated in one of this years grandest events in JMC, The Most Wanted Talent of the Year: Second Offense, last February 8, 2013 at the sky gym. Two entries from JMC Alumni entered the blacklist, namely: Senior Angels and Crowd 7. Senior Angels, a singing group composed of Anna Jenica Empleo, Micah Zafra, Gadelyn Adlawan, Monique de Leon, Sybel Lu, Kenneth Deligencia, Franz Hortal, Artriches Arbolado, John Michael Young, and Vanessa delos Cientos, entertained the crowd with their acting, dancing, and singing skills. Crowd 7, on the other hand, was a band led by Mario Sotto, the only alumnus of the band. They serenaded the spectators with their version

of Fix You by Coldplay. Both groups belong to the JMC High School Batch 2010-2011. Excitements were seen in the eyes of the alumni as they stepped on stage. There were mixed feelings of excitement and nervousness. But overall, it was a fun experience and even though we didnt win, we enjoyed the night. Mario Sotto, the vocalist of Crowd 7, said in an interview. It was good to be back performing on that JMARIAN stage, he added. The Most Wanted Talent of the Year: Second Offense was a blowback of the Most Wanted Talent of the Year Season One, a project of JMC-HS-SSG batch 2011-2012 in partnership with the High School Faculty and Staff, which featured various entertainment craft such as singing and dancing.

The 10th Juniors-Seniors Promenade of Jose Maria College with the theme, Be Strong, Take Courage, and Fly, was held at the Lantawan Hall, The Royal Mandaya Hotel last February 23, 2013. The Juniors and Seniors wore impressive dresses and suits following the Duke and Dutches motif a first in JMC Prom history. Christine Joyce P. Savillo and Mildan John D. Romero handed the batch prophecy in a novel way, adopting a talkshow theme. Their presentation had been commended by faculty members stating it was better than the previous handling of the previous batches. It had been highlighted that such style be followed in the coming promenades. The night had also been a revelation through Ms. Lydia R. Masong, the schools Prefect of Discipline. She related the change that the JMC promenade had been through since the last six years. She emphasized conservativeness over modern style. Nevertheless, she said, Before, we always prepare blazers to cover the girls shoulders and arms, but now, we dont. She therefore concluded, Though it doesnt mean that we dont care for you we trust you, instead. Adopting the conservative yet elegant Duke and

Outdoor was elevated to a new level in the Citizen Army Training (CAT) camporee last October 25-27, 2012 at the campsite of the Jose Maria College Indangan Campus. Aside from the usual activities like Sword and Rifle Drills, Mr. Nilo P. Morales, CAT adviser, introduced new activities such as rappelling, rope climbing, and challenge valley. These activities were added to develop the cadets confidence and to overcome their fears. Maricar Rubi, the Corp. Commander from IV-Atlantis, shared her experiences, It was really fun performing fresh challenges. These activities really gave us more courage in facing our anxieties. The three-day and two-night activity generally

aimed to develop the spirit of Filipino nationalism and to prepare the youth for good citizenship and military service. Apart from being a component of Music Art Physical Education and Health (MAPEH), the Department of Education mandated that the graduating students are obliged to join the said activity. The training also covered first aid seminars such as bandaging, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and other practices that could be used in case of emergency. Mr. Morales said in an interview, When you join the training, you should have the qualities of a good cadet. This activity will not only test your will, patience, health, endurance, and independence but also develop your social skills.

Januarius Anthony A. Panes, a 7th grader, represented JMC in the 2013 Regional Secondary School Press Conference (RSSPC) in Panabo National High School last January 24-26, 2013. After bagging the second place during the Division School Press Conference held at Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School, Panes, under the guidance of Ms. Jhecel May P. Lovitos, showcased his artistic skills in Editorial Cartooning (Filipino Category). With the theme: Campus Journalism: Championing Ethics and Social Media, the three-day presscon showdown reinforced young student journalists in honing meaningful skills and values in this digital era. The categories that were being contested; Individual Contests (News Writing, Editorial Writing, Feature Writing, Editorial Cartooning, Sports Writing, Photojournalism, and Copy Reading and Headline Writing, both in English and Filipino); Group Contests (Collaborative Publishing, Scriptwriting and Radio Broadcasting, English and Filipino). Furthermore, the other activities in concurrent sessions; Awarding of the Best School Papers; Noncontestants Activities; Awarding of Outstanding School Paper Advisers (SPAs) and Campus Journalists (CJs). It was for a second time around that Janus represented Jose Maria College in RSSPC. It was a great experience to be part of such big event, Janus said in an interview. Although it wasnt my first time, the thrill and excitement never changed, he concluded. Next school year, we are not only expecting Janus to represent JMC for the Regional Secondary School Press Conference but also for the National School Press Conference.

Who says no one can beat this game? Well, 7th grader Arjade Marabiles thinks she can finish it all the way through the other end without buzzing the wires.

To instill the importance of Science, Math, and Computer among students, the SMAC Club launched its new and fun activity called SMACC ZONE last September 26, 2012. The zone was filled with activities associated in subjects Math, Science, and Computer. Games such as Tower of Hanoi, The Unblock Me, Speed Stacks, Rubiks Cube, and Tetris Battle were introduced in the zone. Also included in the activities was TRIVEO or trivia in a video, a typical quiz bee format with a twist. in TRIVEO, videos were flashed on screen as an overview of the questions to be asked. Questions came from subjects Science, Math, and Computer. All these games catered both psychomotor and cognitive type of students, Maam Sarah Jane O. Cal, moderator of SMACC Club, stated in an interview. These activities were made for the students to learn and appreciate the scientific and mathematical concepts with fun, She concluded.

Why we love JMC?

By STEPHANIE MAREE M. APALIT III-Aeros

The K to 12 Basic Education Program, one of the priority flagship programs of the Aquino administration, already went full blast in its implementation last year. This program aims to add two more years to the basic education system, comprising of Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education, six years of primary education, four years of Junior High School, and two years of Senior High School. As expected, we heard the cries of the impoverished families saying that two more years in school would be an additional burden, owing to the fact that the rising price of basic commodities remain unabated by the government and employers refuse to heed the call of the labor sector to increase the minimum wage. Quantity over quality that is what the government sees as a solution to the Philippines deteriorating education system. Lets face reality we dont have enough resources to fuel the program to realize its goals. Its a matter of ratio and proportion more year levels mean more classrooms, books, teachers and other facilities to accommodate more students. Thus, implementation of the K to 12 program is, without a doubt, untimely and impractical. With the current circumstances, the ambitious goals of the said program will definitely be ineffective. In order to improve the quality of education in the Philippines, the government will have to remove the

perennial problem of graft and corruption first, which according to World Bank studies, 40% of our national budget is lost annually to graft and corruption. This lost revenue could have funded the construction of additional classrooms, the hiring of competent teachers and the purchase of teaching materials and learning facilities. While the families affected by the K to 12 Program complain of such a pain in the neck, the students unaffected by the latter rejoice. They see it more of as a relief, than being robbed of opportunities to acquire skills and being more employable in the future. Nevertheless, in the end, no amount of grumbling can already reverse the implementation of the K to 12 Program. The Philippine government has already decided to adopt the K to 12 Program which they consider as the solution to the improvement of our educational system that will make our graduates globally competitive. While there are objections in the implementation of the said law, we must bear in mind that we are all citizens of our country who have a sworn duty to support the initiatives of our elected leaders. This is the essence of democracy. Students who are not covered by the program should not exult and remain passive. The governments K to 12 Program needs the unified support of its constituents regardless on their divergent position on the matter. A call for unity to support the implementation of the K to 12 Program is urgently needed.

Most people are blinded of the truth of what teachers really do.

Most people are blinded of the truth of what teachers really do. I later find it out because of the mountain of paper work weighed heavily on the teachers desks. Actually, they are as busy as bees. And you want to know the secret of why they appear to be presentable despite the weighty loads they are carrying? Its because they manage their time wisely. The best part is, they show their love by challenging us with all the activities they give not to degrade us but to make us strive hard, aim high and learn from our mistakes. Now it depends on your eyes on how you will read between the lines. Will you look at them as carrier of burdens, everyday killing you with non-stop discussions and giving you head-aching and heart-breaking tests? Or as brilliant teachers, who are multi-tasking, doing whats best for you and never letting you see how worn-out they are in computing your grades?

Exam: A necessity
By CHRISTINE JOYCE P. SAVILLO III-Aeros

By the way, the exams will be on I could hear groaning coming from behind me. My classmates began to sag with pressure and worry from the dreaded announcement. Oh no, exams are on their way again! Those tests that make us squirm with anxiety, shiver in cold sweat or feel our hands becoming clammy and numb. Either way, Im quite certain that exams are on everybodys fright list. As we all know, exams are tests given to us to

see how much weve learned from a specific subject. But here in JMC, some of us might be wondering why we take exams more often than other schools. From here on, I consulted a High School teacher to answer the pondering questions. Having exams every month rather than having these tests every two months, students may necessarily think that teachers may be putting too much pressure on us. But having it more often is not as bad as everyone think. The reason behind the test schedule is to provide JMarians an easier access in answering it. It may seem hard to study a month-worth of lessons but how much more if the coverage is worth of two? The difficulty

in responding to a certain topic will be lessened. A simple fact. As for the fellow teachers, its quite stressful to create an exam more often than the usual. But actually, there are also advantages during that time. Not to mention the fact that there are plenty of time to have more fun activities for the students, there can be also time for practical exams which is quite different compared to the usual written type. Exams arent really our foes. But more like an ally. No a double agent working for both sides. You know what? It depends on how a student thinks of it. But no matter what, dont let your fears conquer you. Exams dont bite your score does.

America is a place, they say, where all dreams come true. As long as you got the guts to venture and of course, own a legal visa prosperity and promised opportunities will come to you. Whenever youre willing to work, youll surely have a job... on the unemployment line. During his second inaugural speech, the first black-American president inspirited his fellowmen with these words: My fellow Americans, we are made for this moment, and we will seize it so long as we seize it together. Together alone, that is. As a remedy for the aftermath of their lands great recession, President Obama included Putting Americans Back To Work on his second terms platform. It helped keep teachers, police officers, nurses, and firefighters on the job. It ensured that as we (the Americans) re-built our country, we bought Americanmade iron, steel, and manufactured goods whenever feasible, consistent with our national obligations. It helped the President stop the bleeding and reverse free fall. (Democrats.org, Democrat National Platform, 2012) Indeed, it is great news for Wall Street. As one of the countries that have citizens whose livelihoods rely on the money market of U.S., that news has a double implication for the Philippines. Its either good or bad. However, for Jose Maria College and some of its students, it means the latter. My parents rarely get to work. This year, they may be employed but when they come home, they need to look for another job. This is a rephrased interview from a freshman, who looked to be holding back her tears as she spoke. Another JMarian whose father is already a naturalized American citizen quoted Pero kahit na, affected din kami kahit papano. Nahihirapan din siya sa job niya na ganun. Na mas pinaprioritize yung foreign. May balak na rin siyang bumalik dito sa Pinas. Both their parents have cups readied to be filled in the land of milk and honey. The first ones sustained by drips while the other had his non-existing share flowingly materialize for the natural born instead. Although the cause is plausible, for those who aid their familys financial inadequacy by going to the States, the effect is unlikely. For the ones being supported, Getting by and being able to study in a better school would be in past tense as more Americans get their chances with the present. The hopes of those JMarian parents wouldnt be the only ones deprived, probably theirs too.

A call for unity

Get one whole sheet of paper and prepare for a quiz, a powerful line that pressures students like tons of burden weighing upon their shoulders as they begin to scan their notes, roam around asking for a sheet of paper and memorize all terminologies that would probably come out. Some are agreeing to turn on their wifis. But most of them complain about their teachers harshness in giving quizzes. I was part of the picture Im portraying. As I let their views echo in my ear, my curiosity begins to grow like grape vines planted from a seed of a mere perception. I begin to observe teachers. Apparently, they live nonchalantly; no eye bugs or kinky hairs. Just laughing and chatting that an overnight working schedule seems to be impossible. Still on track, but not an FBI agent. I decided to ask few people to see if everyone has the same understanding about teachers. One tyrant student told me that teachers are very demanding and authoritarian. A parent said that teachers are so relaxed and effortless because students are doing the job. In contrast, one of the officials of the school at the same time a mother to a teacher believes that her daughter is doing great and inspiring more students.

Maria Claudette R. In this school, my skills and potentials are not only being discovered but also being improved through the different activities conducted in this school. I know that this school will give me more opportunities to achieve my goals in life.

Just as the feeling of anxiety and gloom filled my whole physique as I saw my dad in the hospital bed lying helplessly. I felt like this is the time that all the lessons of my lifes experiences are meant to be applied. I felt like a sharp knife slivers my heart into two, as if asking myself, Am I going to endure or can I just hide myself and try not to mind this? But the fact is, everything that is happening is a big reality that is destined for me. Then all of a sudden, I woke up in my dream and saw myself standing firmly, speaking words courageously to my dad. I saw my dads hand reaching for me and that instance, woke me up from a very deep sleep. I got an idea and did it exactly. As I talked to my dad not minding that he didnt hear me, he moved, yes he really did, my words made him moved. A very good definition of spoken wordsa strong witness of how to manifest things. The spoken word you choose creates an impression of you and the image you want to portray. If there is a moment in your life where everything seems impossible, then, speak it out; confess what you want to happen for spoken word plus faith is proven to be a great answer. If you want to be perceived in a certain way, the words you choose can either help you or hurt you. If you want to make and keep friends, your spoken word can make it happen. If you want to influence others, choose your words carefully. If you want to drive them away, dont. Handle them carefully, for words have more power than atom bombs. Pearl Strachan Psychologically, the words you speak can affect the outcome of your goals and at what level you are. Do you know that some situations in your life and in the lives of others around you are waiting a word from you before they will change? Until that word comes, things will remain the same. But as soon as you release the word, heavens power will be released and the desired changes will be obtained. Remember, your words are powerful; you can analyze the feedback you get. If you truly want to succeed and be a winner, pay special attention to the words that flow out your mouth. Use it to work for you, not against you. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. Matthew 12:37 Get more organized Be realistic. Write down the things you need to do and youll have a sense of direction where to start your tasks. Remember, when you dont know where to begin, you eventually end up doing nothing. A reminder notebook or a memo pad can do the trick for you. Schedule regular tasks Doing household chores like throwing the garbage, dish washing, ironing, etc. are among the tasks you do in a regular basis. Youre lucky if you dont have any of these but Im sure you have other things you do regularly. Now, do this schedule all of them! Waking up in a regular time would also make a great difference. Reward yourself Our brains respond well to rewards, and being rewarded for an unpleasant task can make it easier to do it next time. Buy yourself an extra dessert at the canteen or go out to Davids coffee shop or at the school park with friends for completing the task. Of course, remember to avoid giving yourself these rewards until you have completed the task! There is nothing wrong with being busy or of becoming calm all the time. But when you are caught in that same stressing situation all the time and all over again, then, you got to do something with it. The mantra of many people who struggle with maana habit or procrastination is: How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!

Keren Keziah R. Dolorito IV-Aqua / HS-SSG Senator I observed that JMC does not only focus on the activities which enhance our physical and mental abilities but mold our spiritual values as well. I appreciate JMC for having its students to be able to engage in different spiritual strengthening activities. Studying here can also bring joy to me knowing that Im studying in a world-class educational institution.

THE GAME PLAN

Bzeeert! And the buzzer rang. Its half-time. The players, obviously exhausted after intense running around the court, gathered in a neat circle, facing their coach. This time its now or never! Do you hear me? he yelled above the noisy roar of the crowd. The players only nodded. Sweat was trickling down their brows and into the waxed floor. Fighting for air, a few reached for water to cool down their shaking bodies as well as trying to ease the pressure. They ignored the yells, cheers and arguments of the people around them. Focus, they thought and settled their eyes back to their game adviser. Their coach continued on Coordination, perseverance, determination, and teamwork makes up a good game. The competition is fierce! Aim for the ring! Make that scoreboard flash like crazy with your shoots and lay-ups! Just put your eyes on the game and youll be fine. Got that? Yes Coach! they agreed altogether. Time was short. They were needed back in the game. But this time, they were aiming to reach the highest score and now, theyre ready. Almost every one of us dreams to dunk themselves into the basket of success. Even our dear Alma Mater, the Jose Maria College, is ready to take another quarter of challenge and win it without fail. But it wouldnt be possible without our coach, Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy, who is always ready to lead us into another court to achieve the winners cup. But before stepping into the finals, everything must be thoroughly prepared. That is why JMC has strategized its GAME PLAN.

By Christine Joyce P. Savillo III-Aeros

enhance professionally. Teachers were supported to do institutional researches, to take masters degree program, to join teaching seminars and workshops, and to benchmark other schools through educational tours.

Bench support
Every player needs a break. Teachers will not be playing full game without substitution. They need help from the bench - the students. Students were well trained to support teachers in implementing the programs

Better programs, better performance

Jose Maria College has undergone certain drills which bore fruitful experience and sufficient training. After a series of ups and downs, it set its achievements into higher standards. To make the institution more progressive, JMC had set its eyes on a bigger challenge extending the school globally. Indonesia, Singapore and the US are few examples of an international connection within our school.

But that isnt the only one. After few more years, Jose Maria College will open a graduate school program and will reach university status. More students will come flowing in and take turns shooting hoops as JMC progresses its game.

Players scoring streak

Its players do not rely on the coach alone but to their co-players as well. A team has to improve its players - the teachers. To enhance the capabilities of teachers, the institution provides opportunities for the former to

of the institution. JMC-HS Student Supreme Government had recently conducted seminars about leadership. Life Box Seminar and YMCA Leadership training are some of the activities that improved the skills of the students to lead and work with other people. In the next school year, expect another series of leadership programs to be conducted. Only the best stands out.

Impeccable defense!
Offense is flashy but defense wins the game. Having a lot of defensive work during the day adds credit to the players. But what are the schools defenses? None other than the facilities JMC provides. This school year, the high school department received a lot of improvements when it comes to the physical attributes of the school. Speakers per classroom, lockers, another set of Audio Visual Rooms (AVR), more laboratories and library improvement - need I say more? Surely with this, we dont just lose the ball; we can take a pretty good shot on it!

It is amazing what can be attained when no one is expecting to be in the spotlight. In other words, no one is concerned with receiving the credits. Great team cohesion occurs when everyone is working toward the same definitive goal - teamwork. The pursuit of the definitive goal transcends any individual goals when players are truly working as a team. The secret of winning games is working more as a team and less as individuals. The coach has laid his GAMEPLAN. It is our time to play the game.

Hey there studs! I dont mean to alarm you but summers almost here! Arent you excited to forget about your textbooks and have some fun under the sun? Of course, everyones summer cant be perfect but you can surely do stuff to spice things up! Here are the top things JMarians will do before their summer ends! Combs here, powders there: grooming everywhere! What is grooming? Grooming refers to removing obvious imperfections in ones appearance. Most of us teens make grooming as a daily habit especially for girls who want neatness and attention. But nowadays, even males are becoming fond of facing their mirrors and putting hair gels to have some funky and pointy hairstyles. But grooming is often neglected by some busy and occupied students out there, right? Little did they know that grooming aids have deeper and more important roles to our body. Here are some of the unseen purposes and tips about the common and rare-used grooming aids that should be employed every day. Hair Comb/Hairbrush Usually people use hair combs and hairbrushes to straighten up their wiry and untidy hair. Actually, thats not the only purpose of our combs and brushes. Our hair needs oil to prevent our hair strands from getting dry and frizzy. Here comes the brush to scrape off accumulated dirt trapped in the scalp pores which enables pores to produce oil for the hair. Brushing your hair every day for fifteen minutes will guarantee your perfect hair days! Face Powder Some use face powder to even out their skin tones or to make their faces fairer. But there is a more important thing that powders can do. Applying face powder prevents your face from becoming oily. It is surely a face-saver for us because a greasy face is a major host to acne and other skin problems. For those who have allergies of powders, you can try the hypoallergenic ones. Hand and Body Lotion Do you use lotions to whiten up your skin? Well, there are lots of widespread whitening lotions in the world but do you know what the main purpose of lotion is? We apply lotion on our skin simply to smoothen, re-hydrate, and soften the skin. Lotions arent for whitening only but also to keep our skin protected from getting dehydrated and tanned. It is recommended to be applied on the skin every day. Enjoying the luxuries of home! The summer heat can certainly get into our nerves making us lazy and unable to have fun in the summer. So, most of JMarians wish to stay in their cool and comfortable houses. Using the PC, helping in the household chores, eating cold treats, and sleeping are some of the simple things you can do at home. Vacation... OUT OF TOWN! Summer means a break from school! And it means spending two months on fun activities. JMarians say that they want to go somewhere for a vacation. Some are expecting to go to the countryside and reunite with relatives while others would want to go to other bigger cities and go sight-seeing. Awakening our artistic side! Everybody has the artist in them. It just needs to be shaken up and be developed. So JMarians are planning to take music or voice lessons. Some also want to enrol into dance classes while others would want to practice on developing their visual art capabilities. Adventure Time! Summer wont be complete without adventures. With the summers heat, JMarians would probably go to the beach to cool off and get tanned. Going to the beach is a great opportunity to have a good time with your family. The survey says that most students want to have quality time with their loved ones. So, dont forget to bring some sun screen! Staying fit in az FUN way! Being health conscious is a quality of a JMarian. So this summer, some students want to spend their summer in trimming down their waistlines and staying healthy. Students say that they will, most likely, play sports all summer long. The most suggested sports are swimming, badminton, volleyball and basketball. Doing something for the future! JMarians arent just the masters of goofing around and such, but they are also students who are serious towards their future careers. Students who took the survey are planning to take on summer classes for additional learning. Others want to gain working experience by getting a summer job. They believe that planning for tomorrow is a head start to have a brighter future. JMarians take heed! Your summers shouldnt just involve dozing off and wasting time all day. It should be full of fun and productive activities with your family and friends. So think ahead and plan on how you can spend your summer without regrets. See yall next school year!

Enjoying literature If you are the silent and passive type, try reading books. Reading is a great hobby for it widens your imagination and knowledge about the wonders around you. Recreation ground Have fun for a while and experience the exquisiteness of nature within reach! Go to JMCs park and explore its gorgeousness. You can smell the refreshing fragrance of flowers and breathe the fresh air in the park. Here are some of the activities that you may do in the park: Picture-taking. Have fun taking pictures in the park with its amusing landscape and fountain. Hang-out with your friends. Chill-out and have a great time with your friends. Sit on the bench and enjoy your conversation. Creating/Listening to music Music colors our world. Their melodies and beats give you relaxation and inspirations. Tangling yourself with music is a good way to kill time and boredom.

We are now in the year 2013 and new trends on the music industry have now begun. Of course, being known for having one of the greatest musical interests, would the JMarians lag behind? These are proofs about our ever-flaming loyalty on the tunes and notes we usually hear. ALPHA A CAPELLA

One of the popular performances in delivering enchanting sonatas is to sing a song the old-fashioned way. Minus the music background and instruments! How? Easy. Lets do a capella! In this way you can only create music through your voice the beats, the rhythm and the melody. Who did this? None other than the Most Wanted 2nd Offense winner Vocal Point. Armed with microphones and themselves, they took the crowds breath away through enlivening the once forgotten music charade. BEAT THE BOX Who says drums are the only ones who can provide a beat? Well, its little brother can too! And here enters the cajon or famously known as beat box. A musical instrument shaped like a box to create deep sounds without echoing the beat. JMarians often use this during musical activities to enhance their performance. Beat box is handy; no assembling required and adds a touch of magic into your music-jamming session!

Speaking of security... As a youth, many adults think that we are weak and defenseless. Prove them wrong by learning martial arts. Surely, no one can lay a finger on you! But, remember, use your skills for defense only! As they say, Hobbies of any kind is boring excluding to those who have the same. Though we have different interests, it doesnt mean that we cant unite. In fact, hobbies are the keys to connect everyone with each other. You just have to sip some water and pass it to the thirsty ones.

Dine like a royalty Is today your birthday, anniversary, or perhaps, graduation day? Are you confused where to set the venue for a certain celebration? Are you puzzled on where to dine-in for the mean time? You can now celebrate all of your celebrations in Kings Chow where the food is affordable and satisfying. Letting you eat like an emperor in a very affordable price is their type of service. Here are some of the features of Kings Chow: Free from disturbance. Kings Chow is an absolutely relaxing place. Nothing will disturb you and you can enjoy eating your savory meal. With Class but affordable. The place is totally high-class and you would think that it is from a foreign country. Its not just high-class; but also affordable. Every food you buy is worth your penny.

Betadine Believe it or not, Betadine is one of the grooming aids that is also important to humanity. Who would have thought that betadine isnt for wounds only but also for our irksome pimples? Since pimples tend to turn red and puffy, applying povidone iodine would be best since the cause are germs. Applying this twice a day to an annoying pimple and surely, in just three days time, the pimple would subside without any scar residue! There are heaps of grooming aids that can correct and remove flaws in our look. But before using them, it is essential to mind and find out their purposes first if you want to have perfect school days!

Though it is not wrong to ask questions or to confirm something from the teachers, sometimes it becomes so annoying, especially when you encounter them like this: Teacher: Okay class, get a sheet of paper. Reason Youre afraid to admit that youre coming late or you just want to make someone hope to think that you will not be late of your appointment. Questions Unsay oras na? Responses Buntag pa.

Netiquette (network etiquette or Internet etiquette) is the social code of network communication. These are the proper manners on communicating on the internet. Netiquette is the proper way to perform ourselves in online environment. So to those uninformed Internet enthusiasts, here are some points to remember to observe proper netiquette. Be polite and respectful. When chatting or communicating through the Internet, entertain the user respectfully. Good evening. How was your day? It is more important in the net because it doesnt have any body language or face emotions to help us understand another person. Do not curse or say bad words and avoid flaming others which can cause hurting someones feelings. Respect others copyrights. Everything in the web has copyrights and licenses. When sharing quotes, articles, and photos, its important to acknowledge the source through citation. Dont type in all CAPS. Its an eyesore to some of the users when they read your posts or comments. Like IM SO BUSY! WHAT DO YOU THINK?! They might think that you are mad and shouting at them. It is acceptable if you use CAPS when emphasizing a word or two, but dont use it every time. Dont Spam. There are chances that you might receive loads of spam messages that contain inappropriate contents which are not suitable for our age. Avoid flirty messages or undesirable words like hey! Youre so beautiful; can I get your number, whats your name? Spamming can cause cyber fights and that will lead to worse situations like getting banned or reported. Use proper grammar and spelling. 3ow ph0w, mUsZtAh nA? LOL what u doing der? lol these lines are usually done by some users of the Internet. Some may not understand this and get annoyed. Proper grammar and spelling is essential to have a good connection. Think before you post, they say. Who we are in the cyber world is no different in reality. Proper netiquette and good online relationships are steps to be a good cyber-you. TECHNOLOGY for RESEARCH The Internet has been known as the biggest source of homework since it went popular. Although library has a lot of books, it doesnt mean it has everything in particular. As long as there is a computer with an Internet connection, students can obtain the information they need. TECHNOLOGYfor GLOBALIZATION There are several schools in different parts of the state, country, city or region that have connections with other universities for educational purposes. Through Internet and modern technology, students can now meet their counterparts without even leaving the classroom. TECHNOLOGYfor EDUCATIONAL GAMES Learning is much better with games. Since plenty of toddlers and graders think that computers are much better than board games, teachers often use them to learn things like spelling, counting and other educational necessities. As for the older, it is much more reliable to use the computer to play brainiac games rather than those menacing ones. TECHNOLOGYfor CONVENIENCE Lazy? Not really. Its just too tiresome to copy a teachers homework given to you. But ho! Here comes Techy, ready to serve you. Tired of jotting down notes? Take a picture of it. Frustrated with heavy notebook organizers? Manage your schedule with your phone. There are a lot of dos and donts when it comes to education and enjoyment. But if you could just tame them both, surely, your student-self will eventually relax and can handle educations pressure. Remember, never let technology own you. Man made it and it should intend to do so.

Students of JMC arent an exception to some tonguetwisted moments. An example of this situation is Teacher: Ok student, please read aloud number 3. Student: The captain boat (supposedly pronounced as bought) a ship. Classmates: LOL! Unsa daw?!

Reason Youre just lazy to check whats really the time or just simply dont care about the time at all.

He is the famous No. 1 bully in school!

Stiff.

Untouchable.

Recycling is the process of using waste products into new, much useful ones. Unfortunately, not all students had much initiative to do such thing. But now, as 2013 comes our way, its time for a change! Take a look at these steps: NO WASTING. JUST WRITING. When writing a note, it isnt necessary to jot down on a notebook. Try writing on a back of a piece of used paper and keep it. Nothing would hurt if you re-use the scrap. Even JMCs High School Publication uses this method. Its always possible to write on paper and help the environment at once!

One day, as he was bullying some random kid

He saw something!

Unknowingly, he let go of the poor child and stood dumbly in front of the something .

Before his eyes was the most beautiful and intimidating person in school.

The Len realized that after all, he was not really evil

Nobody... in school...

SHOW ME THE MONEY. Instead of buying, do your part in recycling! During the SMAC Week, with the project, Handog Tsinelas Program, each JMarian was given a task to sell their recyclable materials. Its not just providing slippers for those hardworking feet but it is also giving our environment a chance to be healthy again! CREATE SOMETHING OUT OF NOTHING. In creating crafts, most students tend to buy materials rather than forage. To make your creations more unique, grab that trash and get that art going! It saves much more money that way. For example, the contest of JMarians featuring the most creative Christmas tree that was completely made up of recycled materials. Whether created out of paper, plastic bottles, straws, wood or cellophanes, every tree was special in its own unique way. CATEGORIZE THE LITTER. Davao City is now on the go about proper waste segregation. As a JMarian, its time to show off what we got! As the decree being implemented throughout the school, it is a must to throw our garbage in correct places. Although the act might be small, youll be amazed on how for it will surely make a big difference to Mother Earth. The 3Rs Reuse. Reduce. Recycle. Fit for three big words Jose Maria College. All these actions are some of the ingredients of being a clean & green JMarian. But as our school grows older, so must be our role in keeping everything neat and in order.

H-hey!

What are you looking at, punk?! Go away! He just felt isolated, lonely and ended up bullying people. did that...

Nature has been the inspiration of many great discoveries. Instead of conceptualizing new designs, inventors saved time by understanding nature and allowing them to create more intelligent and sustainable inventions. Here are some of the innovations that are copied from nature. Bullet Train Birds beak The nose cone of a bullet train is modeled after the shape of a high speed diving birds beak evolved to reduce drag and shape how the fluids flow past the bird at speed. Submarine - Whales A submarine is copied from the features of a whale. The ballast can be manipulated by humans. If ever they want to submerge underwater, theyll open it to fill in the water. Then whenever they want it to float, theyll empty the ballast inside. Cars speed - Cheetah The feature of a car to run faster is copied from the phenotype of a cheetah. Through this, people are able to reach their specific destiny in a short distant time.

JMCHS Player today, Kings tomorrow

By SUNSHINE M. PEARSON IV-Atlantis

Eyes on football
By TRISSHA I. JUNASA III-Aeros

High school basketball varsity players Ryan Allawan, Roberto Raras, and Harry Dumagan in an exclusive interview with the JMARIAN School Publication.

Getting into sports is one of the best ways to spend your spare time, to entertain yourself, and to maintain your fitness. But these are not merely the reasons why people are involved in sports. These young athletes, Roberto Raras, Ryan Neil Allawan, and Harry Dumagan, have something different in their minds. Having been chosen to be part of JMC Kings next year, they spoke to JMarian Publication about their feelings on the path theyre about to take. JMarian Publication: Why did you choose basketball over other sports? Roberto: Ive been playing basketball since I was little along with my father. So it is basically the sport I grew up with. Also, at times when my family undergone some difficulties; it served as my avenue to forget those problems, at least for a while though. It is my antidote when Im emotionally sick so to speak. Do you consider it (Basketball) as a part of your life? Ryan: Well, It is life to start with. Not merely a part of me. But I have to say, I consider this as a chance that would bail me out from the confines of poverty. I can still remember seeing my mother worked tirelessly just to provide the things that I needed. This break of mine gives me hope that someday, I can return the favor to her. How does it feel to be part of JMC Kings next year? Harry: I am very excited to be part of JMC Kings. Considering their accomplishments, its really an honor to be included in the team. I am so much grateful to the schools founding president Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy for he looked beyond himself.

I consider this as a chance that would bail me out from the confines of poverty.

What is your greatest ambition in life? Ryan: Practically speaking, earning a degree to land a decent job is something I set my mind to. Having a job is a way to help my family. Of course, in basketball sense, I would like to see myself stand as the most valuable player in an international competition. Is there something you want to say to your coach, and the founding president? Roberto: First and foremost, I am thankful to Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy for the privilege he has given. Not to mention his generosity in providing us food and shelter. Thank you also to coach Nick for giving us the knowledge that we need in training. I really learned a lot. Ryan: I am deeply grateful to Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy for his kindness and that he came up with an idea of providing scholarship to youth like me until college. Also, to our coach who tirelessly shared his knowledge to us. Harry: I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Coach Nick Serafica. Without him discovering me, I may not be here in this institution. And of course, to the founding president, Pastor Apollo C. Quiboloy, for giving us a chance of a lifetime. Its an honor to know a person like him. Having this scholarship is a big answer to ones earnest prayer. I wish I could tell him face to face.

The Beautiful Game as the world calls it. However, for Filipinos, it is no less than an ordinary sport. It was - until unknown Filipino footballers shocked the world in what is considered to be the biggest upset in Philippine Football history. Silence echoed the field as Chris Greatwich emphatically headed the ball towards the Vietnamese net. No one saw it coming. Nevertheless, it came and changed the fate of football in our country. Throughout our history, Philippines was nothing but a participant in any league. Yes, a mere participant. Weve never won anything, to say it directly. But the rise of Azkals flashed an unforeseen interest of the sport that other countries have been playing for decades. Left to right, streets to schools and subdivisions to villages, you would see a group of people kicking football and watching games. Unknowingly, while most of the Filipinos set aside the game for decades, Filipinos from different parts of the globe are making name in the sport. David Alaba of

Bayern Munich, the biggest, richest , and most successful football club in Germany; Stephan Shrock of Hoffenheim, also from Germany; Paul Mulders of ADO den Haag, a club from the Netherlands; and Neil Etheridge of Fulham, a club from England; and Alphonse Areola of Paris Saint Germain, are few of the outstanding Filipinos gracing the beautiful game. Without a doubt, Filipinos are showing great promise in the sport. Seeing the development of football in our country, with good programs and enough support from our government, Philippines can compete in a higher level. Higher than the achievements we have at the moment. Achievements we can acquire if we keep our eyes on football.

Sports JMarians wish to play

By ANGEL CAROLINE U. JOROLAN I-Tellus

Since most JMarians are sport enthusiasts, JMarian publication conducted a survey about sports that students would love to play in JMC. Top 5 is football which acquired 15% in the survey. Footballs increasing popularity could be the reason why it reached top 5. Comes in top 4 is Martial arts with 17%. JMarians are already active in Martial Arts to stay fit and healthy. It is also one of the best ways to develop discipline among students. Swimming lands in top 3. It has 18% of the total survey. The only

water-based sport in the list. A good way to relieve stress, refresh the body, and stay fit. In top 2 is volleyball which has 20%. This sport is popular because its easy to play and does not require big space. Top 1 is badminton. This sport got 30% of the total survey. Badminton can practice and exercise your reflex actions for you to be more alert at all times. So JMarians, choose your game. But always remember, here JMC, we involve in sports not just for fun but also a way to develop good values.

Seniors took Judo competitions by storm

By TRISHIA S. ARCILLA IV-Atlantis

Fourth-year students of Jose Maria College brought honors from various Judo competitions nationwide. After finishing second place in 2012 Mindanao Judo for Peace in Cagayan De Oro City and first place in 2012 Summer Judo Tournament in Davao City, Lloyd Anthony Abucayan had yet again won silver medal in the WNCAA Mindanao Judo Tournament last January 2013. It was the latest of his increasing collection of awards not only in Judo but in other martial art discipline as well.

It was just a hobby and reaching this far is beyond my expectations, said Abucayan. Other seniors who also exceled in this sport are Karl Felypp Catungal, bronze medalist of Batang Pinoy National Tournament held in Makati City last September 2012; Syril Joshua Apalit and Francis Miguel Villa, silver and bronze medalists respectively in Kadayawan Judo Tournament last August 2012; and Robert Victor Ducusin, bronze medalist in the WNCAA Mindanao Judo Tournament.

Do you know how sporty and athletic Filipinos are? They are very competitive and often engaged in international tournaments. There are about 75% of Filipinos who love to play basketball, 20% in badminton, and 10% in volleyball. However, there are also sports which are less played if not total strangers to them. Here are some of the least popular sports in the world: Jai-alai lands in top 3. It involves a ball bounced off a walled space. The term, coined by Serafin Baroja in 1875, is also often loosely applied to the fronton (the open-walled playing area) where the sport is played. In top 2 is Chess Boxing. This game combines brain and brawn. It has the viciousness of boxing and the cleverness of chess. The match begins with a chess round which is followed by a boxing round. Rounds of chess and boxing alternate until the end of the match. Rules of fast chess are used, and a competitor only has a total of twelve minutes to use for all his chess moves. Lastly in top 1 of the least popular sports is Extreme Ironing, one of the supremely awesome yet least popular sports in the world. Extreme Ironing is basically Englands way of testing your multitasking skills. It is the latest danger sport that combines the thrills of an extreme outdoor activity with the satisfaction of a well-pressed shirt.
