Whenever we imagine for a better world like Ramarajya the most vital things comes in our mind that is different conditions cause physical, mental and social condition etc. of the people. All these words literally suggest for the term Health of the people. The meaning of the term Health as a subjective concept varies with individual and group, time and place and socio-culture contexts. The measures used to define health greatly vary and range from purely biological and physical to social, cultural and psychological. Where as in positive terms it is defined as a state of complete physical, mental and social well being, it is viewed negatively as the absence of disease or ill health. According to World Health Organisation Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity. But health has a social value attached to it and is often judged in terms of a host of social factors. Heath implies in a sound mind with a sound body, in a sound family with a sound environment. According to WHO, definition of health consists of three components i.e. physical, mental and social. Some social scientists have suggested another component i.e. Spiritual health. The physical health of an individual is manifested by a normal complexion, clear skin, bright eyes, lustrous hair, firm flesh, normal health, good appetite, sound sleep, regular activity of the bowls and bladders, smooth and co-ordinate body movement. The resting pulse rate, blood pressure and exercise tolerance should be with in normal limits according to the individuals age and sex. Another important aspect of health is mental health which is associated with the social soil of the individual and community. A mentally healthy person should feel reasonable secure and adequate, neither should he under-estimate nor over estimate himself; he should be able to accept his short comings to correct it, he should have-self respect; he should be able to set reasonable goals for himself and for others; be capable of shouldering the responsibilities of daily life and should not bowled over emotions to fear, anger, love, or guilt. Mental ill-health has certain organic and hereditary causes but it is greatly influenced by psychological factors like worry, anxieties stress, tension, frustration, unhappy marriage, economic factors, poverty, industrialization, urbanization, a changing family structure, population mobility and economic insecurity. Thus, the overall social environment not only determines the individuals attitude but is also responsible for his mental well being. Our definition of health depends on the characteristics of the society we find that as long as an individual is carrying out the assigned role, the individual is considered as healthy. Social health has become an important issue for medical scientists. It has come to involve abilities like creating bond of friendship and sustaining them; assuming responsibilities in accordance with ones capabilities, achieving satisfaction, success and happiness through accomplishments in ones field, living in harmony towards other beings. Social health can also be defined as the fullest exploitation of an individuals genetic heritage. A person should be capable of existing in harmony with his environment. So that his genetic potentialities are transferred into phonotypical realities.

In the earlier societies, the question of health was considered to be a mans personal business. But this view has undergone a change with health services being regarded as essential and to be administered from an early as foetus in womb to a man in tomb. Ideal health conditions however always remain elusive because of the rapid changes in the society, which foster conditions that are not conducive to the health of a person. Good health hence is a relative concept having no fixed standards. What is considered normal in one person may be abnormal in another in one person may be abnormal in another. However, if the health of the people is not good then the society cannot develop. In the developed countries, otherwise the countries will be ruined. They are living in a better healthy conditions than the urban people of our country then what to speak of rural people of India especially Orissa. Keeping good health is essential for both men and women. Men are the backbone of their family. They work hard in any field for the proper maintenance of their family and mother land. Hence, they should be healthy. In our day to day life, women are assigned with all the domestic responsibilities and kept busy with cooking, washing, child rearing and also work in the offices and fields to give financial support for their family. It is not only possible for them if they bear good health. Scientifically we know that the green plants are the producers and the human beings are consumers. But accordingly the geological time scale we are in the Cainozoic era what we also called as recent. This era is also called as the age of human beings. So in this recent time women are the real producers. Through eithers sexes are responsible for growth of the populations. Basically women performed the major role for population growth. It is said that women are both to create, rear and socialize children and thus enable them to grow into the designed adults who are capable of effectively carrying out the roles assigned to them by the society. Thus, womens traditional role is to give birth and to bring up the future workers of the economy. Hence, for women the definition of health is determined by her ability to perform these functions, even though millions of women work in the farm and in agricultural activities, in the house hold industry, non-house hold industry and services. An woman comes through three stages during her whole life period. These are early child hood stage, adolescence and old age. In the above three stages they face many serous types of diseases. In the first two stages they face high risk of malnutrition, retardation in growth and development, disease, disability and even death in early childhood stages and adolescence as well as reproductive phase. In old stage too they face threats of breast and uterus cancer and menopause related problems. They are also facing arthritis problems after forty years old. The health of women is one of the most neglected areas of the life. This is because it is considered unimportant by the policy and decision makers in society and in the household as well. This is especially true for the vast majority of poor labouring women who are unorganized, unprotected, and self employed as well as those who work for a wage or even without it. Poor women cannot be educated or trained since they have to work for long hours and often more meagre payment. These women cant take time off either for illness or be formed after delivery. Womens accessible if they are, these women do not have time to avail of them. The health of women in India is a matter of concerned. There is a general practice in India that the women first serve food to the male members of the family, then comes the turn of children finally they take food whether it is adequate or not. They have to bear children and do not get the required calories which are desirable for the

pregnant women. Thus, the women suffer in the matters of health because of the surrounding social set up. The changing pattern of economics development of rural Orissa has put a heavy burden on women which is reflected in their health. The marginalisation of famers landlessness forced migration; temporary and permanent have undoubtedly affect womens health and nutritional status. The growth of small and cottage industries have depended heavily on female labour. Most of these industries do not come under the purview of any kind of safely legislation. Women work in agricultural field as daily labourer in most of the district of Orissa. They are also work in industries like tobacco, cashew, coir textiles, garment, and fish processing etc. In all these industries they work long hours at low paid, unskilled jobs. Only 10% of the total women population of this state are doing services in different companies and Government departments. Hence, there are health problems related to work place, hazards of pollutants on women who work during child hood, adolescence pregnancy and location that can be dangerous both to women and foetus. Although women are the most essential part of the society, still they are neglected by their family members. Women are taking care of all the members of their family. But nobody give them importance. They are the constant victims of affection and family support even when they are ill. They are also doing not get my type of consolation from the other female members of their family when they risk. They do strenuous work within family and outside. Due to this work they face serious health hazardous. The most important problem in rural Orissa is a mix social and economic aspect. The foremost among others are the lake of knowledge about sanitation and hygiene, poor sewage disposal, food habits, blind beliefs lack of vaccination and latest available treatments etc. All these above factors are responsible for decaying health of rural women. In rural areas of Orissa is it possible to assume a stand of women on the basis of common interests? At first sight the answer would seem to be no. Largely because of their low education, lower economic standard and social barriers, they have a restricted view of society. These victims of circumstances dont know what is going on in the outer world except their four walls. Although Government provides some facilities, regarding health to the rural women of Orissa. Still they have various health problems. Upliftment of the womens health on rural areas can only be achieved when Governmental, Non-Governmental and social organisations take more comprehensive interest and concerned action for the urgent improvement of this depressed class of society who are equally important for the society like men. Good health and good society go together. In other words they are mutually supportive of and dependent on each other. When health is approached from a holistic view it appears that the major contributors to the state of positive health are good and developed health status and qualitative life of people. Supportive services like nutrition, pollution free environment, improvement of education, raising the standard of awareness level would definitely improve the health seeking behaviour of the people as well as quality of health care facilities of the people. Orissa is having 38% of its population as schedule caste & schedule tribe. Efforts have been made by various funding agencies like WHO, DFID, UNFPA, etc. and several programmes like ICDS, IRDP, NLEP, NMED, RCH, ITDA have been implemented to raise the overall health standard of the people of Orissa. Inspite of the efforts being made so far, because of various reasons like lower level of literacy, lack of proper communication facilities, excessive dependency on super-natural powers lead to poor womens health scenario in our state of Orissa.
