SELF FINANCED SHORT TERM COURSE on

ADVANCED MACHINING PROCESSES

(For Faculty Members, Graduate Engineers and PG Students)

July 01 to 05, 2013

Organized by MECHANICAL ENGINERING DEPARTMENT Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology Allahabad - 211004, India

Introduction
Advanced engineering materials having improved technological characteristics, have high demand in technically advanced industries, especially in aircrafts, automobiles, tool and die, and medical. Machining of these materials with stringent design requirements, such as high geometrical accuracy and surface quality, complex shapes and intricate profiles has resulted in the creation of new machining methods known as Advanced Machining Processes (AMPs). These AMPs utilize various non-conventional sources of energy, e.g. thermal, electrochemical, chemical biochemical, vibrational and jetting during machining operations. Since their introduction AMPs have proven to be very fruitful for modern industries. The increasing growth of these processes mainly depends on following reasons: Improved process capabilities compared with conventional machining processes Applications of computer aided technology such as CAD/CAM/CAE/CNC and CIM Capability of being adaptively controlled through the use of vision systems, laser gauges and other in-process inspection techniques The basic objective of the present course is to introduce a number of popular advanced machining methods with their fundamentals and diversified industrial applications. This short term course will deal with all these types of Advanced Machining Processes.

Course Content
Overview of advanced machining processes and systems Brief introduction of advanced engineering materials and their applications Introduction to micro/ Nano machining processes High speed machining High efficiency deep grinding Macro and micro electro-discharge machining Macro and micro electro-chemical machining Macro and micro ultrasonic machining process Beam machining processes: LBM, EBM, IBM Chemical machining processes: CHM, PCM Jet machining processes: AJM, AWJM, WJM Hybrid/Assisted machining processes Advanced finishing processes such as MAF, MAFF Application of modeling and optimization tools such as FEM, AI, DOE in machining
