The Northeastern District Exhibit showcases transportation related products and service from around the Northeastern District and the country. The exhibit gives attendees an opportunity to experience the newest technologies and services, and is designed to help you meet your traffic and transportation needs.

Synchro 8 Professional Development Workshop


Wednesday May 22, 2013 9:00AM to 4:30PM
The Northeastern District and Trafficware, Ltd. will be hosting two 3-hour Synchro Professional Development Workshops featuring two distinct modules. The preliminary module set includes:

HCM 2010 & Synchro

With the release of the 2010 HCM, several of the current methodologies used for analyzing traffic operations have been modified. The focus of this course is providing an overview of the HCM methodologies and how they were implemented within Synchro.

Calibrating SimTraffic

The focus of this course is for users to gain a better understanding of how SimTraffics traffic flow model operates. Each of the key model parameters is highlighted and discussed. Several case studies are highlighted to demonstrate the calibration process.

UMASS Amherst Human Performance Lab

Come visit the University of Massachusetts Amherst Human Performance Lab under the direction of Donald L. Fisher, Ph.D. The Arbella Insurance Human Performance Laboratory (HPL) is a multi-disciplinary research facility at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, based in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.

Western Massachusetts Regional Traveler Information Center

MassTraveler is the source of travel information in Western Massachusetts. The center provides real-time road and traffic conditions, public transportation information, and a listing of regional arts and events. Established in 1999 to provide traffic congestion information related to the reconstruction of the Coolidge Bridge connecting Hadley and Northampton, RTIC currently provides a wide range of travel-related information for the I-91 Corridor and other areas in the Pioneer Valley by means of its website, www.MassTraveler.com.

All day Thursday, the many students of the Northeastern District will be presenting their research and academic work as part of the All-Day Student Symposium. Posters will be set-up in the Hotel Lobby for all to view. Students will accompany their posters during the Dinner Reception on Thursday to answer questions and to discuss their research.

Emerging Professionals Group Workshop


Thursday May 23, 2013 9:00AM to 12:30PM
The Northeastern District has invited Carl Selinger, author of Stuff You Dont Learn in Engineering School, to speak to our emerging professional and student members. His professional development seminar of the same title has helped thousands of engineers and other professionals around the world over the past two decades to learn non-technical skills. Admission is free of charge.

District Traffic Bowl

Thursday May 23, 2013 4:30PM to 6:00PM


Come watch the three Sections battle each other in the jeopardy style trivia game that will determine for another year which Section knows more about traffic and transportation. Or at least the most about traffic related songs, movies, and quite possibly one or two traffic sign related questions. The District Traffic Bowl will be held at the Hotel Northampton prior to the Awards Banquet on the evening of Thursday May 23rd.

Networking Reception & Virtual Horse Racing

The Thursday night program will close with the Networking Reception in the Hotel Northampton Ballroom and feature Virtual Horse Racing. Come and enjoy the company of your Northeastern District colleagues while participating in the Virtual Horse Racing Event and Raffle.

Golf Tournament
Hickory Ridge Golf Club - Amherst, MA Wednesday May 22nd, 10:00 a.m.

The Annual Northeastern District Annual Meeting Golf Tournament will be held on Wednesday May 22, 2013 at the Hickory Ridge Golf Club in Amherst, Massachusetts. Tee times start at 10:30am. Arrive early Wednesday prior to the welcome reception and join us for a round of golf at Massachusetts premier semi-private golf club designed by Cornish/Robinson. For additional information on the course, please visit www.hickoryridgegc.com. Lunch will be provided at the tournament on the golf course. Players must wear collared shirts (no denim or sweatpants are permitted). The cost for the event ($75) includes green fees, cart, and lunch. Registration and payment can be made when registering for the Annual Meeting, however, a separate registration form must be completed and returned to either Matt Chase or John Diaz. Technical Bike Tour


Norwottuck Rail Trail - Northampton, MA Thursday May 23rd, 2:30 pm

Tour the Norwottuck Rail Trail on a 6.5 mile bicycle tour that starts in vibrant Downtown Northampton and passes over the majestic Connecticut River via a converted railroad bridge. This multi-use trail continues along the former Boston & Maine Railroad line, parallel to the regionally significant Route 9. Along the ride we will stop at various points to discuss the engineering and design challenges of the trail and pause for scenic agricultural landscapes. The ride is appropriate for all abilities and consist of an out-and back loop along a relatively flat and paved converted rail trail. The tour will be held on Thursday May 23rd, 2013 at 2:30pm. Cost is $10 per person ($25 for person with bike rental). The tour will begin and end at the Hotel Northampton and will last approximately 2 hours. Please pre-register for the bike tour through the Annual Meeting registration.

Downtown Northampton Parking

The Hotel Northampton has on-site parking and available municipal parking as shown on the parking map above. All parking is within a short walking distance to the hotel. For our vendors, drop off of exhibitor materials will be accommodated via dedicated on-street parking in front of the hotel. The E. John Gare Parking Garage is located at the end of Armory Street, which can be reached via Pleasant Street or Hampton Avenue. The garage has a capacity of more than 430 vehicles on 4 levels of clean, safe parking. There is a convenient covered walkway from the Parking Garage to Thornes Marketplace on the second level. The Parking Garage is open 24 hours a day. The first hour is free, and parking is 50 cents an hour after that. There is a free commuter parking lot at Sheldon Field, off of Bridge Street, available and convenient for people carpooling or commuting via the PVTA over the Coolidge Bridge. There is a small parking lot owned by the Commonwealth by the entrance to the Norwottuck Rail Trail on Damon Road for use of the Rail Trail. Parking meters in city lots and on city streets are enforced Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Parking on Sundays is free.
