REMOTIVATIONAL THERAPY Objectives: 1. To stimulate the patients to be fellow explorers of the real world 2. To let patients develop feelings of acceptance. 3. To develop the patients ability to communicate and share ideas and experiences with other people. 4. To promote group harmony and identification and let the patient feel that he is part of the group 5. To let patient discover a reason to value himself and increase his self respect. 6. To stimulate the patient to think about something and talk about his feelings. Indication: It is a small group therapeutic modality in nature, designed to help client by promoting self-esteem, awareness and socialization. It is objective in nature and used in an effort to reach the unwounded areas of the patients personality and get them moving back into reality. It aims to bridge the fantasy world of the psychotics to the real world.(National Remotivational Therapy Org.Inc.)

Process: The duration of the therapy is 45-60 minutes for once or twice per week and lasts up to12 sessions which consists of 8 to 10 people grouped in a circle. The subjects to be considered are; Geography, History, Science, Literature, Industry,

Sports, Hobbies and Nature and those that are not considered are; Religion, Politics, Love, Sex and Family Problem. In this therapy the facilitator asks

questions which is related to the topic at hand. One question leads to another which is referred to as bounce questions. The facilitator creates an environment where the patients feel safe, in this environment the facilitator does not judge whatever the patients say. Thereby a trusting relationship is established between the patients and the facilitator this is done by following the five steps of the therapy.

Steps: 1. Climate Of Acceptance (5 minutes) a. The facilitator who is at the center of the group introduces himself and greets each patient by name. b. The facilitator must ask the patients to introduce themselves. c. After the introduction the leader may comment on the patients appearance or may give a pleasant compliment. It is okay to touch the patients in an appropriate way ( hand shake or laying a hand on the patients shoulder) Goal: Create a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere

2. Bridge To The Real World (15 minutes) a. The facilitator should ask bounce questions which are short and easy to answer

iii

b. The facilitator should ask for anybody who knows a poem about the topic of discussion c. Questions are from general to specific. There should be three to four questions with four possible answers. The patient can or cannot reply if they choose so or some patients may not know the answer which will lead the facilitator to proceed to the next individual by asking the same question. d. The facilitator reads his own poetry to the group e. The facilitator let the patients read the poetry by showing the visual aid.

3. Sharing The World We Live In ( 15 minutes) a. The facilitator stimulates about 8-10 questions leading to the topic. The questions are not emotionally based but objective in nature. The question should answer; What, When, Where, Why and How b. The facilitator should try to explore the topic under discussion. The other patients in the group can add to the conversation.

4. Appreciation Of The Works Of The World ( 15 minutes) a. The facilitator asks a transitional question because this step is integrated with Step 3. The questions should be objective and answer; What, When, Where, Why and How b. The facilitator should make sure to relate the patients so they will be able to think of themselves in relation to the topic

iv

5. Climate Of Appreciation (15 minutes) a. The facilitator should try to ask a summary about the topic that was discussed b. The facilitator should express his appreciation to the patients for coming to the session and remind them of the next session and what topic will be discussed. Materials: Manila Paper and Marker (Visual Aid for Poem) Name Tag Pictures of Nature Detachable Model of Nature Mono block chairs Microphone Cassette (Music)

vi

Answer: - Green - Brown - Yellow - After asking broad to specific questions, ask the patients if they know a poem about nature - After letting the patients read their own poetry, the facilitator will now be the one to share a poem. (Either Bisaya, English or Tagalog)

Trees (Joyce Kilmer) I think that I shall never see A poem lovely as a tree. A tree whose hungry mouth is prest Against the sweet earth's flowing breast; A tree that looks at God all day, And lifts her leafy arms to pray; A tree that may in summer wear A nest of robins in her hair; Upon whose bosom snow has lain; Who intimately lives with rain. Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree.

-After reading the poem to the patients, let one patient read the poem written on the visual aid 3. Sharing The World We Live In - The facilitator stimulates about 8-10 questions leading to the topic. The questions are not emotionally based but objective in nature. The question should answer; What, When, Where, Why and How QUESTIONS: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Kanusa mu last naka kita ug kalikasan? Asa mu nakakita ug kalikasan?

-The facilitator should try to explore the topic under discussion. The other patients in the group can add to the conversation. 4. The questions should be objective and answer; What, When, Where, Why and How QUESTIONS: 1. 5. Unsa atong bahaton na mayo arun? -The facilitator should make sure to relate the patients so they will be able to think of themselves in relation to the topic 5. Climate Of Appreciation -The facilitator should try to ask a summary about the topic that was discussed Dialogue: Ang ginoo nag himo sa kalibutan para ma puy-an sa mga tao. The facilitator should express his appreciation to the patients for coming to the session and remind them of the next session and what topic will be discussed.
