St. Peter Church Under New Leadership

By Lisa Yako Transitions come to every organization, and they offer opportunity not only to embrace good memories but to look forward to the future. The parishioners of St. Peter Church are now doing just that. Their pastor for the past 10 years, Fr. Jeff Sikorski, has officially retired. Fr. Jeff leaves a legacy of leadership and commitment to St. Peter Parish and our community, but also to countless others, having served as a priest, administrator, and educator for 40 years. Fr. Jeff has truly enjoyed his time here. As a newcomer to Huron, Fr. Jeff always felt welcomed. He stated The community itself is very welcoming toward new people. In addition, Fr. Jeff was very impressed by the strong support the parish showed towards St. Peter School. During his tenure, the school thrived. The Rock, the schools new gym and churchs community center, was recently constructed, and work is currently underway to transform the former gym into new classrooms. Though Fr. Jeff is excited about his retirement, he declared that he will truly miss the day-to-day engagement with the people of St. Peter Parish and the challenges of planning and conquering the next item on his agenda. I dont have any plans (for retirement), at least for a couple of months. I just want to rest and relax until the end of August. explained Fr. Jeff. Thereafter, he likely will be asked to fill in on weekends for vacationing priests throughout the dioceses. Otherwise, Fr. Jeff plans to remain in the Huron area and continue to play golf and do a bit of traveling. In parting, Fr. Jeff chal-

lenged the people of St. Peters to be as responsive to the new Fr. Jeff as I felt you were to me. This is a great parish, and it is in a great part of the state. It is a great place to live and raise a family. People respond well to other peoples needs. There is a great ecumenical spirit here. Keep building on that. As of 1 July, Fr. Jeff McBeth will serve as pastor of St. Peter Church. Fr. Jeff has been a priest in the Toledo Diocese since 2006. Though Fr. Jeff has embraced the priesthood, this is not a path to which he was initially drawn. Yet, he described, Its always about Gods call, which Blessed Pope John Paul II described as gift and mystery. Id always been involved in Church, though never thought about priesthood. Graduating from high school, I got into a competitive medical program. It Fr. Jeff Sikorski wasnt working out, and one morning I woke up with Fr. Jeff McBeth the idea of going to seminary. I transferred back to getting to know a whole bunch more people and famiBGSU to make sure it wasnt just a way of getting out of lies, working with the school and the youth programs chemistry, and the call grew stronger. Upon graduating, and the many other ministries, and ministering with all I entered the seminary at the venerable Saint Meinrad of the dedicated staff and volunteers. Though Fr. Jeffs Seminary in Indiana. Since his ordination, Fr. Jeff has served the par- salvation in Jesus Christ, and to help people fall more in ishes of St.Thomas Aquinas and Good Shepherd Parishes love with God and His Church, and thus to become, as in Toledo and St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Findlay. Huron River Fest 2013-2014 Queens Contestants

The Huron River Fest Committee is pleased to announce the 2013 Huron River Fest Queens Contest. On Friday evening, July 12 at 6:00 pm at the Huron Boat Basin Amphitheater the crowning of the 2013-2014 Huron River Fest Queen will take place. Please join Mr. Mac Lehrer, the 2012 Huron River Fest Queen, Miss Lilly Justus, along with several of the River Fest committee members as they host the final leg of the competition. Judges from outside of the Huron community will judge the three contestants as they answer two rounds of thought-provoking questions. Other areas the contestants will be judged include: community involvement, school activities, being a positive role model, ability to serve in a Queens capacity, poise & personality, ability to Destini Smith Grade: 10 Daughter of David Jones and Shannon Jones Sponsor: Sawmill Creek Resort I want to be the Huron River Fest Queen because I would like to show the rest of Ohio how great of a town Huron is. Also, I would love to learn more about surrounding towns and cities. I would represent the Huron community if selected by being as helpful as I can whenever I am needed in the community. Also, by being a great role model for wonderful girls and boys and give them a person they can relate to but also look up to. LiAnna Schwerer Grade: 11 Daughter of Ronald Schwerer Jr. and Jennifer Yates Sponsor: TRC Roofing of Ohio I want to be the Huron River Fest Queen for many reasons and would love to represent the Huron community in a positive way. Last year, as 1st Runner-Up I had so much fun that its nearly impossible to think that I could pass up the opportunity to do it all again. I loved being on the court, but since I am saving as much as I can, the extra gas and money it takes to get in to parades, brunches, and festivals as only an attendant really restricted the experience for me. This year, I want to continue to represent Huron as positively as possible, but as Queen so that I can go to more festivals, meet more people and spread the word farther for next years Huron River Fest. As a member of the Huron River Fest Court, Id love to do it all over again. As a symbol of completion of her reign, Miss Lilly Justus and her court will host a Royalty Brunch on Saturday morning prior to the Huron River Fest Lions Club Parade. The River Fest committee wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the contestants individual sponsors for

Ashtyn Stadler Grade: 11 Daughter of Bob & Tracy Stadler Sponsor: Berardis Family Restaurant Being the Huron River Fest Queen would be a great honor because this is a great opportunity for me to give back to the Huron community. I would be honored to serve as a role model and a responsible young adult in our community. Huron River Fest Proudly Presents 6th Annual Road Show

As the Huron River Fest quickly approaches, the Huron River Fest committee is excited to announce the addition of BGSU Firelands, Mad River Harley Davidson and along with Lucky Stone Promotions as this years sponsors for the 6th Annual River Fest Road Show. This years Road Show event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 13th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm in the First Presbyterian Church parking lot in Huron, only a few short steps from the River Fest midway. Participants of the Road Show will receive a dash plaque, with the possibility of winning a trophy awarded at the conclusion of the show. There will also be a 50/50 and the opportunity to show off your Road Show Material in the Lions Club River Fest Parade. The Huron River Fest Road Show is the perfect show to see a wide variety of vehicles in one place since we have no model year limitations, and beside cars we have motorcycles and tractors too. We even had the Browns Backers bus last year! The Road Show is also the perfect show to bring your family since the show takes place steps away from the rest of the River Fest. We are a front row spot for watching the Lions Club River Fest Parade, explained River Fest Committee Member and Road Show Organizer William Biddlecombe. Anytime Fitness 5K
The Anytime Fitness (Huron & Sandusky) 5k, co-sponsored by Family Eye Care Centers will be held Saturday, July 13 in Huron. Proceeds from the 2013 Anytime Fitness 5K will assist the Abbey Rose Foundation. The Non Profit foundation was started by Huron High School Spanish teacher Sam Kudrin and his wife Suzi after the loss of their first child in April 2011. Sam and Suzi were given a book: Mommy Please Dont Cry There Are No Tears In Heaven that helped them through their difficult time, and are returning that favor by providing the inspirational book to anyone who would benefit. So far they have sent out hundreds of books. They also donate baby and childrens clothes to Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital for other families in the same situation. The proceeds from the race will enable the Abbey Rose Foundation to reach more families who have lost a child. Unfortunately this need will never end. Your help will play a sig-

NO NEED to SACRIFICE!!
Right-sizing done in style at The Sanctuary at Plum Brook
Purchasing a new home to right size your familys needs could mean sacrificing your quality of life. At EPCON Communities, The Sanctuary at Plum Brook, right sizing does NOT mean sacrificing. The Sanctuary offers a wide array of home options that will fit your new lifestyle, and if you need extra space for additional family members, or simply room to stretch out, The Sanctuary can deliver. The Sanctuarys homes are built with high-quality, natural materials that minimize maintenance. Options include spacious enclosed patios, optional screened in porches, four season rooms, and also second floor bonus rooms than can add an additional 770 square feet of living space. Homes are designed to meet the changing needs of buyers and are proving to be very popular with owners who say that their right-sizing experience has improved their lifestyle, not compromised it! Jim and Eileen Elliott say they absolutely LOVE their new home! We had a large home which was very high maintenance and very time consuming. We discussed downsizing, but never found anything to our liking until we came to The Sanctuary, Eileen said. The Sanctuary offers something for everyone with homes ranging from 1519 to 2769 square feet, plus optional upstairs bonus suites. Epcon designs make the homes feel larger than the square footage reflects. Eileen goes on to say, we have never regretted one moment of moving to this friendly and welcoming community. Nestled in a tranquil setting, the charming European Country designed community offers plenty of green space, professionally landscaped grounds and picturesque ponds and fountains. Amenities include a professionally designed clubhouse with a large gathering area, TV, fireplace, pool table, fitness center and heated swimming pool. Put the mower and shovel away! The Sanctuary does the work; you do the living! They sell lifestyles, and oh yeah, a condo comes with it.

Ask h you ow you r as li dream h can buy ttle om and as 30% e for neve dow paym r have a n ent!

The Sanctuarys upstairs bonus suites provide versatility, privacy

The Sanctuary homes are open and roomy, but if you need extra space, they have you covered! The new detached homes offer second floor bonus rooms as an option. The versatile space adds a comfortable sitting room with vaulted ceiling, a full bedroom and full bathroom. The suites are designed to function as a private living space for additional family members, but they can also be used as a quiet retreat for the homeowner. Options that include a kitchenette or a wet bar make them special. New residents, Dan and Liz, sure can attest to that in their new Portico with bonus suite as well as how serene and peaceful the Sanctuary is for them. I love to listen to all of the different bird calls (so much different than the sirens and obnoxious thumping bass sounds from cars that we always heard at our old house), Liz mused. We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our condo! Its so quiet and so darn beautiful out here! Building here was one of the best decisions weve ever made! If youre 62 or older, be sure to ask about the new program that allows you to buy your new home for as little as 30% down and never have a payment! Sound too good to be true? Its Not! In addition, there will soon be four of the five floor plans to tour. Whether youre just curious or genuinely interested in right-sizing your home and improving your lifestyle, come in and see what The Sanctuary has to offer. Their friendly staff will be happy to show you around and answer all your questions. Call or stop in today!!
