According to Road Transport Department, the accumulated total of driver in Malaysia in 2010 is 12236254 (JPJ Portal). In Malaysia, person who wishes to drive a vehicle must get a license from the authorities. In this case, the Road Transport Department was given the authority to handle the procedure.

Rules. Personnel must be 16 years old and above to qualify for 2 wheels license. Refer as motorbike. To get a driving license for car, the persons age must not below 17 years at the date he sit for the test. Candidates should be able to see clearly, and not color blindness. It is to ensure that the person can see and obey the traffic light rules. There is a special condition for handicap candidates. They can apply license for handicap with a different procedure and regulations. Getting your license is as simple as ABC. You dont have to go to Road Transport Department branched in any state where ever you live. Despite, the Road Transport Department itself, through their staff come to you. First, enroll to any authorize driving academy in Malaysia. Make sure you exceed the age needed. You may have to bring along some documents required e.g. Identity Card. After paying some fees, you are required to attend a class called KPP (Kurikulum Pendidikan Pemandu). It is a 5 to 6 hours lectures session about rules, law and basic method to drive or ride. Done with the class, the academy will set up a date for you to sit for a computer test. It is a test consist 50 questions about rules and anything they gave you in the KPP and you must score at least 40/50. Otherwise you have to repeat the test on another date and of course with extra exam fees.

Practical Now you have passes the computer test. You have to attend another 3 hours practical session, followed by one to one driving class conduct by qualified instructor. It is compulsory to learn driving from the instructor at minimum of 6 hours driving experience. They will teach you the best way driving and handling car from the basics, using the gear and clutch, buckling the seatbelts, mirror and signal lamp. The lessons or test are divided to two parts.

On-road and off-road. On road, you are required to complete about 5km driving, and you must follow all the rules along the driving. The challenge comes when you have to face any obstacle during the lessons or test, just like you are driving in real. Traffic jammed, speedy driver, and more. The off-road contains 3 parts of test. The first one is Hill Climbing. You drive the car to a small man made hill about 40 to 60 degrees. Make sure the front wheels stop precisely on the line. Stop the car for a while, and drive forward to downhill without descend back. 2nd part is side parking. Just make sure you park the car without hitting any cone within 3 minutes time. And the last one is 3 pointer movements. Drive the car into a rectangle space, reverse and drive the car out from the rectangle.

Test Before sitting for the test, there is a pre-test that we called Qualifying Test at the Institute (QTI). This test are compulsory to verify either you are ready for the real test or not. If you pass the QTI, the rest are yours. Just do your best on the Test Day conduct by the Road Transport Departments officer. That is the final thing and you are going to get your license but it is under supervise for 2 years. (Lesen Percubaan). It is a test license, and any compound, penalty for speed driving or accident occurred within this 2 years, your license might be terminated.

Taking a driving license is an easy business if you really obey the instructor, and follow the rules. The fees actually different according to the academy, but the Road Transport Department has give the standard rate for sitting the test. Once you had your license, you can drive anywhere you want in Malaysia or other countries that accept Malaysias driving license. But make sure you have a car, and better it is your own car.
