Advanced Program in Quantity Surveying Program Guide

Program Overview
The Advanced Program in Quantity Surveying (APQS) provides an advanced understanding of the fundamental activities which comprise quantity surveying (QS). It is delivered in association with our academic partner, the College of Estate Management (CEM) - a leading provider of supported distance learning for real estate and construction professionals.

Curriculum

II. Pre-contract estimating and tendering: Contractor selection Pre-contract cost control General estimating principles and tender procedure Factors that influence the cost of buildings

Program outcome
Upon completion of this Program you will acquire certain skills and competencies which will enable you to understand the strategic and administrative procedures involved in procurement of construction work and understand practices in relation to dispute resolution, risk management and project management. Improved knowledge and understanding of: Strategic and administrative procedures involved with the procurement of construction work from the viewpoints of both client and contractor Principal skills required by surveyors working in the construction industry Relationship between time, cost and quality in the construction procurement process and the alternative procurement routes available Management and administration of construction contracts

Practical and professional skill enhancement, to enable: Identification and explanation of roles of various participants in their domestic construction industry Evaluation of options available for the procurement of construction work Demonstration of a practical knowledge of controlling time, cost and quality on a construction project

Displaying of competence in the basic skills required for construction measurement and valuation Debate of the legal basis for controlling construction projects

Eligibility criteria
To participate in this Program you need to be a graduate, graduate equivalent or diploma holder Candidates undertaking this Program are required to have the knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals covered in the Foundation Program in Quantity Surveying (FPQS) offered by RICS India

Administration process
Duration: A six-month (24-week) Program covering 200 hours of study undertaken through e-learning sessions - access to knowledge files which contain a learning program that guides you through a particular element of the QS process. Mode of study: All your learning materials are accessible through the 'online learning academy' (OLA), a specialised online resource. A designated tutor from the academic partner will provide technical support to candidates through a live discussion forum. Prior to the commencement of the Program you will receive a study pack which will provide information on how to access the OLA along with details of your username and password. Examination/evaluation: This will be a 60-minute paper-based examination, comprising of objective type multiple choice questions. You will be evaluated via an examination conducted in a secure classroom environment at the end of the Program. Venues for the examination centres will be announced shortly and are likely to include one or more metro cities (Delhi, Mumbai or Bengaluru). You would need to acquire the requisite minimum score to successfully complete the Program. If required, candidates would be allowed to reappear for the examination during the successive Program cycle. The number of reappearances would be limited to one. Certificate of completion: On successful completion of the Program, a certificate will be awarded to you by RICS.
