Assignment 3a & 3b

Assignment 3a To research, plan and produce a 2 minute trailer for a new feature lm in a specic genre and provide a 12 page portfolio of supporting materials which provide evidence of your journey in producing the trailer from initial research through to nished product. (15 marks) Assignment 3b To lm, edit and sound edit a 2 minute trailer for a new feature lm including titling, music and all the expected conventions. (20 marks) To evaluate your process in making the trailer with reference to all the key media concepts and with extensive use of media language/terminology. (10 marks)

Remember: keeping your blog up to date will really help. 12 pages MUST NOT be all text - images, charts, diagrams, drawings are all important

RESEARCH - between 5-8 pages

Tip: Do 1-2 hours a week and you will stay on top of this. Every time you watch, make notes and practice using media language.

Analysis of the CONVENTIONS of lm trailers: how narrative is created: through lming and editing use of sound: diegetic and non-diegetic, voice over/narrator, dialogue, music use of text on the screen: titling, credits, reviews How GENRE is established? How will you apply these conventions to what you make? Analyse a range of trailer: focus on specic Mise en Scene which could help explain/support your choices. Print screen images from a couple of the trailers you have looked at and analyse in detail. How does your trailer form part of a campaign? Design a poster, website or other marketing device for your lm Representations: How have people, places or events been represented in the lm trailers you have studied? How will people places or events be represented in your lm trailer? Focus on representations which are suitable for your trailer. For example: young women in horror lms; the outsider / bullied / bully; ethnic groups, age groups, social class, disability etc.

PLANNING AND PRE-PRODUCTION - between 5-8 pages Written Pitch - synopsis - treatment/script The pitch line: 25 words or less that tells us what the lm is about and excites us to know more. Synopsis: 1 page telling the plot of the whole lm Treatment: Scene by scene for your trailer (no dialogue or Voice over) Script: detailed with exactly what you hope to see and hear in your trailer Visuals Storyboard: essential to explain how you will shoot the sequence, requires details about images, action, sound and transitions. Doesnt have to be every single shot BUT should be a minimum of 12 frames (shots) Production Cast list: a description of each character, who you will cast, representation Locations: a list of all locations with some photos of the proposed locations explaining why you chose them Design: any important design decisions effecting the mise en scene, sets, props, costumes, make-up. Equipment list: camera, tripod, tracking(?), lighting (even if this is using available light, or using hand held lamps, torches etc.) Schedule: create a clear plan for when and where you are going to lm and in what order of scenes/shots. The more detail the better. Include everything: cast, props, costumes, set, equipment and timings. Production roles: decide and agree who is doing what on your lm trailer: script writing, directing, camera, lighting, sets, organisation, editing, sound. You MUST RESEARCH THESE ROLES AND DECIDE Work as YOU WILL BE DOING a team and take MORE THAN ONE ROLE responsibility for what you do. and YOU MUST STATE As a team you will do it all. On CLEARLY WHAT YOU DID. your own it is really tough.
