The issue area that I want to investigate is the one dealing with social securit y.

Congress passed the Social Security Act in 1935, which created a retirement p rogram for senior citizens and public assistance for the poor (Levin-Waldman, 20 12). My understanding of this area is that people who are working now help pay f or the people who are on social security now. It is not like all the money for s ocial security that comes out of our checks goes in a special account just for u s and waiting on us for when we retire. Now some will ask is this fair, since th ere has been talk in the past and present of it not being available in the futur e. In my opinion and I am sure of others, this needs to be resolved. So when we get to that time we do not have to stress about it, since we already have enoug h to stress about in our life time. Here is some information from the Democrats on this issue. The Democ rats along with President F. Roosevelt in 1935, created our social security. Thi rty years from this date, in 1965, the Democrats along with President Lyndon Joh nson created Medicare (Our Party, 2013). They are continuously fighting to prote ct our social security, to strengthen Medicare and help Americans to save for th eir retirement. Here is some information from the Republicans on this issue. Now I a m sure you already know that they do not feel the same as the Democrats with thi s issue. We support common-sense reforms that will lower costs, ensure quality h ealth care that Americans deserve, and end lawsuit abuse. We oppose government-r un health care, which won t protect the physician-patient relationship, won t promot e competition, and won t promote health care quality and choice. (Our Party, 2013) . Here is some information from the Green Party. They believe in GRASS ROOTS DEMOCRACY-Every human being deserves a say in the decisions that affect th eir lives and not be subject to the will of another. SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EQUAL OP PORTUNITY-All persons should have the rights and opportunity to benefit equally from the resources afforded us by society and the environment. ECOLOGICAL WISDOM -Human societies must operate with the understanding that we are part of nature, not separate from nature. NON-VIOLENCE-It is essential that we develop effectiv e alternatives to society s current patterns of violence. DECENTRALIZATION-Central ization of wealth and power contributes to social and economic injustice, enviro nmental destruction, and militarization. COMMUNITY-BASED ECONOMICS AND ECONOMIC JUSTICE-We recognize it is essential to create a vibrant and sustainable economi c system, one that can create jobs and provide a decent standard of living for a ll people while maintaining a healthy ecological balance. FEMINISM AND GENDER EQ UITY-We have inherited a social system based on male domination of politics and economics. RESPECT FOR DIVERSITY-We believe it is important to value cultural, e thnic, racial, sexual, religious and spiritual diversity, and to promote the dev elopment of respectful relationships across these lines. PERSONAL AND GLOBAL RES PONSIBILITY-We encourage individuals to act to improve their personal well-being and, at the same time, to enhance ecological balance and social harmony. FUTURE FOCUS AND SUSTAINABILITY- Our actions and policies should be motivated by longterm goals. (Green Party, 2000). When it comes to my views on politics, I would have to be honest and say that I am not into them and I do not follow a certain party. When it comes to voting time all I see is one candidate trying to make the other look bad and that just turns me off. I do have my opinions but cannot complain too much since I do not vote. I just wish people would be more honest and do what they say the y are going to do. References Democratic Party. Our Party. Retrieved form http://www.democrats.org/about/our _party
