CHAPTER 1 (INTRODUCTION) Incarnational Evangelization: (Incarnation: God is near to people, present in daily lives of people.

) --a conviction of faith that God cares for the happiness and well-being (ginhawa) of people in the very situation in which they live; we meet God in an incarnated way or in the flesh; we meet God in the people around us: in the hungry, the thirsty, the strange r, the naked, the sick and the prisoner (Mt 25:31-46). Its challenge was: TO SEE GODS PRESENCE IN OUR EVERYDAY EXPERIENCES, CULTURE, HISTORY, NATION AND WORLD COMMUNITY. Jesus Message and challenge to the world: to be reign/kingdom focused, inclusive, inculturated and liberative. 1. Reign/Kingdom of God: The master symbol used by Jesus in speaking the well-being that God has always meant for His

people, rooted in the history of his people and from the time of David. (reign of Yahweh:time of peace, justice and prosperity).

The society during Jesus time: The kings and emperors exploited the common people. The message of Jesus: In his rule there was a compassion, love, equality and justice. 2. Inclusive: The society during Jesus time:There is a discrimination among Jew and greek; slave and free; male and female. The message of Jesus: The New People of God share in the building of a community that will favour the powerless, the weak, the poor and the marginalized of all the culture and society. (Ref: Gal 4:23-29, 5:13-15) 3. Inculturated: Points to the need of communicating the message of faith using the cultural expressions of a people or totally

immersed within a particular culture. (e.g JUDAEO-CHRISTIAN TRADITION of Jewish and Western Cultures)

The society during Jesus time:He brought his message to the Jews living within a particular cultural and societal setting. He spoke the language of people, told stories that reflected their lives and concerns, shared in their experiences, values, customs and struggle. The message of Jesus: Our Christian Message has to take roots in our Filipino culture, so that it may: animate, enrich, transform attitudes, worldview and value systemour whole life. 4. Liberative: or liberation theology, developed by some Latin American theologians who inspired by Second Vatican Council

who wants to bring the good news (to be free) of liberation from slavery, poverty and political oppression.

The society during Jesus time:Jesus voiced a fierce criticism of the political-religious leaders of his society and took the option of being present among the poor and the powerless. The message of Jesus:He encourages us to take up the cause of the poor and oppressed in our society.

Helps the students learn the process of growth as a persons with Christian faith that is authentic, relevant and responsible. See-Judge/Discern-Act FORMULA - A method adopted by Joseph Cardijn, a young priest, who introduced a new way of reflection in his meetings with the Young Christian Workers (YCW) after World War 1. This was adopted too by theologians in Latin America as well as of those in Asia. SEE: To analyze experience as Christians within the concrete context of their situation. DISCERN: To bring into a dialogue their experiences with their Judaeo-Christian Tradition (JCT). To ask oneself about the aspects of faith, life and situation. To rediscover and to reformulate Christian message. ACT: To translate the re-focused Christian message into effective action, that affect ones head, heart and hand -Celebration.

SEE-DISCERN-ACT Method of REFLECTION: Reformulated by the Asian Bishops as reflection-action-spiral. How? Christian do theology by allowing 2 faith experiences to dialogue in a constantly progressing spiral movement. Our present-day Christian experience meets the many faith experiences of the past Judaeo-Christian Tradition. The envisioned result of such a meeting is a contextualized and inculturated Christian message.
