Grease
What is a Grease?
Lubricating Grease- A solid to semi-fluid product of a dispersion of a thickening agent in a Liquid Lubricant. Additives imparting special properties may be included.
But in any case, greases certainly look nicer than liquid lubricants
some dis-advantages:
Greases may not reach all
places in need of lubrication contaminants Greases do not have any cleaning effect Greases do not need circulation systems Greases do not work as Greases decrease dripping, cooling agent Greases cannot be used at splattering and leakage as high speeds as liquids Greases suspend solid
additives easily Greases are suitable for intermittent operations Greases work under extreme operating conditions Greases seal for life Greases reduce noise Greased machinery tends to need less power

Major considerations
Consistency ( NLGI No 2 for ball, 0 & 1 for roller bearings, 00 for gear boxes) Drop Point ( Phase transfer ) Oil Viscosity ( Decides to lubricate or not ) Never mix in-compatible grease Grease after mounting the bearing Right quantity of grease is as important as right type of grease. Re-lubrication quantity Gq ( Grams) = 0.005 * D*B
