Claranor Pulsed-Light Sanitation Technology for Caps, Cups, Lids, & Films

The Claranor pulsed-light sterilization technology is designed to accommodate the North American packaging industrys growing interest in the chemical free sanitation of cups, caps, lids, and films. This system incorporates the sanitation requirements necessary for water saving sterilization of products. In previous years, products such as flavored waters, juices, extendedshelf-life milk, dairy-based products, and other products requiring cups, lids, caps, and films were sanitized using a peroxide-based chemical. Hosing products down with excessive amounts of water, products were not getting the sterilization necessary to meet the requirements for sanitation and health codes. The Claranor pulsed-light sterilization technology is an innovative machine designed to improve past sterilization methods. Because products were not sustainable for social, business, and environmental reasons, there is accumulating interest for the pulsed-light sterilization equipment. Claranors clean, low energy machine allows for improvements in the product process. With a small environmental footprint, this system is centered on efficient and effective sterilization. Chemical-based sanitation methods are decreasing in popularity for numerous reasons. With an opportunity for growth, the Claranor pulsed-light technology has implemented a sterilization process that greatly differs from traditional chemical use. As an environmentally sound solution, this machinery is a collaboration of Fowler and French engineer Matthias Weber of Claranor. Together, the team has a goal of building an infrastructure to speed the adoption of a sustainable sterilization solution. Technically speaking, the Claranor system uses an intense pulse of full spectrum light emitted from a xenon lamp. In this process microorganisms are destroyed through the photochemical effort of the ultraviolet spectrum and the photothermal effect of the intense flash of the visible spectrum. Designing an effective solution for the safety of industries and consumers, the Claranor pulsed-light technology has been through rigorous testing to ensure sanitation and safety. In a challenge test with Aspergilus niger fungus, one flash of the Claranor pulsed light system resulted in a 5.1 log reduction and total decontamination after two flashes. The flash on this machine is only three tenths of a millisecond, meaning the packaging material does not absorb any of the heat. This new innovation treats up to 25 caps per second with throughput varying y size and configuration of the cap. Applied to new and existing packaging lines, the Claranor units are efficient in every aspect. Requiring less floor space than chemical sanitizers, a reduction in water costs and consumption, and

durability in each application, the pulsed-light technology conserves energy. In fact, the pencil-sized bulb is guaranteed for a minimum of 10 million flashes with several caps being treated with each flash. There are a variety of advanced technologies available from Fowler Products. From capping machinery to cap sorting and feeding systems, Fowler manufactures high speed bottle rinsing and air cleaning machines, in addition to the Claranor pulsed light sterilization systems. Use this new technology to protect your products and provide your customers with safe and sterile caps, cups, films, and lids.
