Acknowledgment:
These behaviors are from original scenarios. I have acquired these narratives from one of my acquaintance. All the characters in this story are true. My acquaintance presents this story on a condition which was that I will not expose the name of school and name of teachers. These behaviors are rarely or evenly use. So I m only able to tell that this story is from one of the government schools of Quetta city. All the names used are speculative. But the story is fact and logics are given for these politicking in actual scenarios.

Faces of political behavior: Avoiding action:

Over conformity.
Strictly interpreting your responsibility by saying things like, the rules clearly state Or this is the way weve always done it. Examples based on actual scenarios: In the school Mr. Nadeem always demonstrate over conformity to the head master. Using superfluous adherence to put away him self from undesirable consequence. His wishes are to retain his post in this school/ promotion and as well domination on othr staff members. Mr. Nadeem beliefs until he will not be a part of this legitimate politicking he cannot achieve his goal. Mr. Nadeem is having high self monitoring personality and he want to adjust him according to the external environment. And there was another reason to behave in a way causality was a threat of transfer from this school because his house is near joint road and the school is on the joint road which makes this school convenient for him in a sense because it saves a lots of time and expanse if posting at a far flange school so to avoid this threat Mr. Nadeem is using legitimate political behavior showing over conformity/ flattering intimated to the head master and one step more he is involve flattering of head master making his register, making results, taking his classes and much more which are in the responsibility of head but in the adherence depicting by Mr. Nadeem and he is performing to protect his interest and wishing good recommendations in ACR . It has some impact on his career but not so much. This is legitimate politicking defensive behavior. It is not required in this organization as a formal role.

Buck passing.
Transferring responsibility for the execution of a task or decision to some one else. Examples based on actual scenarios: Mr. Ibrahim is another teacher of that particular organization. His quality is that he is the principle of this imperial institute. He always suppress his other subordinate in a

way give them feeling of guilty/ depressing that they are not doing any thing perhaps they are doing than also. To let them fall in the feeling that they are offender and consequently they start work and honestly perform their entire job and the as well the job of the Mr. Ibrahim so pivotal purpose of Mr. Ibrahim is to transfer his responsibility from his head in which he became succeeded. And also when some one comes to school for making certificate or for any thing else he most likely to say that this is not my responsibility, you come tomorrow or Monday or ask to any other teacher to do this I have to go or else... Pretend to save him from the work. Because it is routine politicking so inconsequentially his sub ordinates dislike him they negate this politicking. There is no we feeling between the teachers therefore no one is willing to take stand all are enduring in a sense they all are avoiding the despite of principle. There is a lake of trust among the employees. So that passing another responsibility to each others. It is a part of legitimate political behavior but harmful for the formal organizational system.

Playing dumb.
Avoiding an unwanted task by falsely pleading ignorance on incompetence. Examples based on actual scenarios: Mr. Ali is one of the staff member he have a vide range of skills and experience he possess Drawing, English, Science, Math, And Geography he is double M.A. and as well M.Ed. he is former army man thats why he have lots of knowledge of areas and political situations and of history. But he is always seems to be pretending inability to avoid new task and responsibility and associated mental stress. He have qualification that make him privilege to take lecturer ship but he is lethargic and dont avail this chance he says that if I will take this promotion that will benefit me up to 2 or 3 thousand but stress associated with teaching high class student is more costly then this benefit. He avoids the tasks by playing dumb. His service is 23 years and he is experienced so many times in past by performing extra and good than his duty where he did not get any intrinsic or extrinsic reward because it is government organization which is seniority based not performance based. So why he need to show effort and competencies when all in vain. So this way Mr. Ali avoiding action this is defensive stance but not required in the organization as a formal role.

Depersonalizing.
Depict that treating people as object. Rigid people often haired for administration as they avoid personalizing and sociability. Examples based on actual scenarios: Again Mr. Ibrahim principle maintains emotional distance with the staff in order to run the school. He believe that if he will be gregarious and gracious so his staff will become frank with him and they will start nullifying his orders and his administration will collapse. So in this sense his behavior is rigid. Because of rigidity staff feels that they are not liberated but they are answerable to some one so they perform well job to 2010-12 IMS-University of Balochistan. avoid reprimand. As he depersonalizing them to retain his influence and dominancy. This is defensive stance and avoiding action to avoid fallacious result. This is routine politicking and little bit required as formal role in the organizational system.

Stretching and smoothing (red-tapism)

prolonging a task so that one person appears to be occupied for example turning a 4-weeks task into a 4-month task. Examples based on actual scenarios: Mr. Younis is one of the high incompetent teachers in the school. He always seems to be involved in Red-Tapism. He always use buck passing and take little bit work on his shoulders and stretch this trivial compulsion to plead this business to avoid the stress of any additional task. He deliberately uses this tactic to show that he is so much hard worker/ he is doing such a big job since long time. He only tries to pass his time. He show that he is very good teacher always busy in teaching but there is said end justify means so the end of the year means inspection time always justify his progress catalysts are his students efficacies. This political behavior does not represent loyalty to the organization and occupation. This behavior is distinctly not required as a formal role in the organizational system. Even though it is a defensive stance.

Stalling.
Appearing to be more or less supportive publicly while doing little of nothing privately. Examples based on actual scenarios: In this behavior all teachers were indulge. They show very much support publicly. But actually they literally do drama. In other words we can call them hypoxic or diplomats. Thy do lots of promises etc publicly that I will do this and that and also endorse but actually do nothing contrast of their say and show adverse behavior privately. They emulate like a good man to be the prestigious. They also take care to know some secret for pulling some ones leg. They appears to be stalling for their interest they cannot subordinate their interest at any cost. They are all are good human beings/ teachers but routine politics prevails every where in order to defend self interest. This is normal routine politicking it prevails all around us we cannot deny. It is not required in the organization as a formal role.

Avoiding blames:
Buffing documentary activity.
This is a nice way to refer to converting your rear. It describe the

practice rigorously documenting activity to protect an image of competence and thoroughness Examples based on actual scenarios: . Mr. Nadeem always demonstrates himself as busy doing documentary activity. Because here prevails the compasses of documentary activity. Every one start perceiving him as a loyal, honest, devoted and hard worker. Every teacher start giving example of Mr. Nadeem that look at him you should learn from him. But actually he is doing nothing and showing how proficient he is. He will until the end of time seem to be checking copies, taking test and maintaining register. Other teachers feel that he is very much committed and they even ask sophisticated question from him. His behavior is to avoid the blame of lethargic and incompetent. He is thriving to show what he was trying to show. It is endorsed technique which is not allowed by formal organization. Defensive action to avoid blames.

Play safe.
Evading situation that may reflect unfavorably. It includes taking on only project with a high probability of success, having risky decision approved by supervisor, qualifying expression of judgment and taking natural position in conflict. Examples based on actual scenarios: A most controversial issue. At the mid of this year 2011 Mr. Nadeem & Mr. Ali were pleading Mr. Gul noticed them as they are so much angry on principle because in the attendance register their casual leave is marked by head master since start of this year. When they make any absent or leave principle use to mark casual leave. Mr. Gul was the actual victim whos 15 & 15 absents was marked each month. So he started conspiracies and that was the threshold to use these two teachers as puppet. There casual leaves were 2&2 and actually the casual leave of Mr. Gul was more than and his interest was mainly involve. But he motivated and constitute a consortium. They were thinking that they were taking revenge from principle but actually they were playing as a puppet for safeguard the Mr. Guls interest. Thy wrap the attendance registers and burned that register. Consequently Mr. Ali & Mr. Younis got char sheet from the office for the in discretionary action. Actually Mr. Gul succeeded to remove his record from the book and played safe because he was involve in only motivating these two puppets not in whole practice. That was and illegitimate political behavior played by Mr. Gul that was not required as a formal role in the organization. It is a defensive stance taken to avoid the blame of illegal activity.

Justifying.
Developing explanations that lessen ones responsibility for a negative outcome and/or apologizing to demonstrate remorse. Examples based on actual scenarios:

As name is suggesting there is one man in this school named Mr. Saad often pet name as Mr. Justification. He is a person whose justification is prepared before his action. This year at the beginning of new classes Mr. Saad when Mr. Ibrahim the principle was on the leave of fifteen days he started fund raising from all the students he constitute justification that collecting for making new batches for the students. So as rising complete he made batches from the shop of his ally at cheep rate. He rises up to Rs. 20,000 and cost generated to 10,000 rupees and persuaded all the teachers that he is efficient and this is the aggressiveness that will raise our performance evaluation. He justified his activity interest was of his own but obligation on others. His justification was to avoid the blame of illegal activity. This is loss of organization. He defends his activity.

Scapegoating.
Placing the blame for a negative outcome on the external factors that are not entirely blame worthy. Examples based on actual scenarios: This is in the all of teachers of this school. When ever school gets rewarded and takes perks they show that is because of them and when some thing bad happened because of external factor. If the progress of student is good so every teacher starts taking credit of brazen student. But if the student is poor they pass on this credit to external factors. Scapegoating is not required in any organization as formal role it is a defensive stance to avoid the blame of poor performance which every one use.

Misrepresenting.
Manipulation of information by distortion, embellishment, deception, selective presentation, or obfuscation. Examples based on actual scenarios: Mr. Nadeem clear scenario for the exaggeration/ hyperbole actually he is not so much proficient and cerebral but portray himself as a vide range of skills to uphold his post in this school. Once he said that he is master in accounts and he have allots of experiences in accounts but practically when he was pose by Mr. Saad the formula of grade he filed to answer him. He said that it is rarely used by me so I am unable to retain it. That was elapse but the exaggeration of incompetence of Mr. Nadeem was exposed at this point. This is not such a big crime but it is equal to lie which is not enduring and doesnt last long. This behavior is not required as a part of formal organizational system. It was a hyperbole to show competence. Clear example for avoiding blame of incompetence.
