Music Theory
The study of music theoryhow music is organizedis an important part of every students musical education. CSMA offers 19 different music theory classes for both children and adults. We follow a rigorous curriculum that takes students from the basics through advanced harmony. You can find more information about our music theory program at arts4all.org/study/on-site/musictheory. htm
Music Composition
Students use form, melody, harmony & rhythm to develop the composition skills necessary to create their own works. Three levels of composition help students gain an understanding of the functions of composition while also learning to use Sibelius notation software in our Digital Lab. Courses such as Composers Studio and Counterpoint are offered for the advanced student to broaden their skills. Students have opportunities to have their pieces performed, & often collaborate with CSMA Ensembles to create new works.
Due to the popularity of many of our Music Theory classes, students who do not attend the first class & do not notify the teacher ahead of time may lose their place to a waitlisted student.
