Three logo variations for the same company.

Logos

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 02 Eric Lybbert

Program/Tools:
Adobe Illustrator

Objectives: Process:

Create a variety of logos to fit a company or personal image. Use the basic tools of Illustrator.

I matched different text types with each other to create three unique logos. For the first logo, I used the star shape tool to create multiple four-pointed stars and then arranged them in an aesthetic display. For the second logo, I created a wing design with the brush tool and changed the opacity. For the third logo, I created multiple fivepointed stars and arranged them.

Program/Tools:
Adobe Photoshop

Learn to manage Photoshop laers. Learn to blend images together smoothly, using maks. Use filters. Apply appropiate typography.

Process:

I cropped the image to 8.511. I then opened and cropped the next image to the same size. With black paint and a 100% opacity, soft-edged brush, I painted away the hard image edges. I then went in, painting away and then painting it back in with various opacity, soft brush until I was content with the overall look. I then created a text box on another layer and eyedropped its color with the lighter color in the aurora borealis image. I then lightened that color. I created another layer and went in with the same soft brush and about 38% opacity and added a cloud to backdrop the text. I then added a film grain filter to the first layer.

Imaging
Description: Date:
5/24/13 A personally taken photograph that has been edited/formatted using Photoshop.

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 02 Eric Lybbert

Program/Tools: Objectives:

Adobe Photoshop, Canon camera

Learn basic photography skills. Use a digital camera to take a quality image, then download it. Size and crop the image. Adjust image brightness, contrast, hue, and saturation levels. Desaturate the selected portion of the image. Use a filter or colorize a portion of the picture.

Process:

I went on campus and took pictures of different plants, trees, and flowers. I took a picture of a white flower from an aerial perspective, shifting the focus of the subject to the left to give it better composition. I cropped the image into a 66 square, maintaining the same left-shifted composition. I selected the background with the quick selection tools and desaturated it. I then applied a diffuse glow filter to the background.

Brochure
Description: Date:
7/20/13 A two sided (duplex) folding brochurre.

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 02 Eric Lybbert

Program/Tools: Objectives: Process:

Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, , Adobe Photshop

Set up and align a two-sided, folded document. Learn how to wrap text around an image. Use paragraph styles in InDesign.

I made a selection of the girl in the ball gown image in Photoshop using the quick select tool. I then placed the image in the document and applied a text wrap. I arranged the text in the brochure to follow the rules regarding paragraph styles in brochures. I placed and arranged images in my document. I added a logo on to the front as the title of the company. I sectioned different paragraphs under headings. I colored the text a light aqua color to provide contrast. The headings are the same color as the stars in the logo (I used the eyedropper tool).

I then wrote in the company name Morning Mist on a pathway following one of the swirls curves. I wrote in my name, changing the size for the other information (address, phone number, email, etc.) One of the swirls became a watermark on the right bottom corner, with an opacitu of 5%.

Event Ad
Description: Date:
5/16/13 A color full-bleed event ad to promote a fundraiser using only Microsoft Word and a scanner

Course/Instructor:
Comm 130 Section 02 Eric Lybbert

Program/Tools:
Microsoft Word Epson Scanner PDF2JPG.net (PDF converter)

Objectives: Process:

Find, scan, and import a high-quality image. Create a full-bleed design. Use text boxes for layout in Word. Insert and edit images in Word.

I scanned the image out of a magazine. I placed it in the Word document I created. I cropped it using a Word image effect, erasing the white background. The edges were still a little too hard for me, however. to counteract the rigidity of its edges, I gave it a softness of 2 pts and used an artistic effect on it (Paint Brush, with strokes the size of 10. I created two large colored rectangles, one tangerine orange and one butter yellow for the background. I aligned most of the text on the edge of the orange box. I created a rectangle outline in the background, using the eyedropper tool to match its color with the fortune cookie image (I did this after asking the lab assistant what could be done to improve my flier).
