Year of Faith: Catechism Corner

But in naming the source of prayer, Scripture speaks sometimes of the soul or the spirit, but most often of the heart (more than a thousand times). According to Scripture, it is the heart that prays. If our heart is far from God, the words of prayer are in vain. The heart is the dwellingplace where I am, where I live; according to the Semitic or Biblical expression, the heart is the place to which I withdraw. The heart is our hidden center, beyond the grasp of our reason and of others; only the Spirit of God can fathom the human heart and know it fully. The heart is the place of decision, deeper than our psychic drives. It is the place of truth, where we choose life or death. It is the place of encounter, because as image of God we live in relation: it is the place of covenant. (CCC, n. 2562-63)

GOOD NEWS FROM THE ILLINOIS SUPREME COURT!

COME AND PRAY WITH BISHOP SIEGEL

Bishop Joseph Siegel will join the regular rosary group on Wednesday, July 24th, at 9:30 a.m., at the Glen Ellyn Abortion clinic, Aanchor Health Center, 1186 Roosevelt Road. The clinic is located just east of the House of Brides and across from the Toyota dealership, slightly west of Finley Road in Lombard. All are welcome to join with Bishop Siegel in praying the rosary for the end of abortion in our nation. There are people praying year round at the clinic every Wednesday and Saturday while abortions are taking place, 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The rosary group meets at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesdays. Your presence and your prayers are always greatly appreciated.

The Illinois Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the Illinois Parental Notice of Abortion Act of 1995 is constitutional and, therefore, must take effect. This will require that parents or guardians be notified at least 48 hours prior to a minor acquiring an abortion. Although it does not require parental permission, it is a step in the right direction and for that we are grateful to God! This week pray a decade of the rosary in thanksgiving to God as we move in the direction of God. Fr. peter Jarosz

Christ the King Parish Presents: Rosary Renewal August 11-15

Sunday, August 11 7:00 pm: Cause of Our Joy After Mary gave birth to the Savior, the angel of God proclaimed good news of great joy for all the people. After a simple candlelight procession to Marys image we pray the Joyful Mysteries while pondering the saving grace of the Incarnation which is made present through healing prayer that brings comfort and joy. Monday, August 12, 8:30 am: Mass and The Greatest Commandment 7:00 pm: Seat of Wisdom When Jesus began his ministry of preaching and healing Mary urged his listeners to do whatever he told them. By praying the Luminous Mysteries we open ourselves to the Light of Christ by which we can practice the obedience of Faith. We profess this obedience through our baptismal promises. Tuesday, August 13, 8:30am: Mass and The Second Great Commandment 7:00 pm: Mary Immaculate Grateful that she was preserved from all sin, Mary prays that we may be purified of our sins. We recite the Sorrowful Mysteries as part of a penitential celebration and we examine our consciences on the capital sins. Afterward people may receive the Sacrament of Penance. Wednesday, August 14, 8:30 am: Mass and Good Grief: Accepting Loss Gracefully 10:00 am - 4:00 pm confessions each hour on the hour 7:00 pm: Honor of Our People The Vigil Mass is Celebrated The celebration of Mass is preceded by the praying of the first three Glorious Mysteries. We would like to offer a hand crocheted or knitted prayer shawl, cape, or laprobe to anyone in the parish who needs to send them to a dear one struggling with life's loss or illness. The shawls are lovingly made so that your loved one may be wrapped with the all-encompassing love of Mary, the Mother of Mercy and Care; and God, the Father of Faithfulness, Healing, and Love. At our meetings on Wednesday from 1:00-3:00 PM in the East Room, we will support you through our prayers for restoring health and healing to your loved ones. In the church narthex, there will be a sign with instructions posted to request a prayer shawl. Bonnie Venezio's e-mail address is: rbvenezio@comcast.net and we will either e-mail or mail you a Request Form.

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT
Martha and Mary are the focus of this weekends Gospel, which abounds with rich themes about hospitality, service, and finding the right balance between action and prayerful attention to the Lord. Christians who are good stewards of their faith life realize that if they are too busy to enjoy peaceful, private time with the Lord, then something is out of balance in their spirituality. If we make time for Mass, but then carry on with our busy schedules without prayer, meditation and reflection, we are missing out. If we find ourselves anxious and harried by lifes routines, could it be a sign that something in our spiritual life needs some serious attention?

How Much Should I Give?

Going Away this Summer?

Dont forget your weekly/monthly giving even though you are away. Please support the debt reduction envelopes for our new narthex, parish life center and redo of parking lot. Thank you for your continued support and generosity. Elaine Ward

Christ the King Mission Statement

The People of Christ the King in Lombard are a welcoming, vibrant faith community building the kingdom of God through our many ministries. We celebrate our diversity, seeking to realize the gifts of each member of our parish, as we are all joined together under one faith, in a spiritual journey of evangelization, service to others, and a reverence for all life. In the Eucharist, we find new life, and bring this life to others through stewardship, education, and worship.
