Kapet (Kyphi)
Kyphi (the Greek name of the incense known to the Egyptians as Kapet) was the most prized blend of incense in Ancient Egypt. In Heliopolis, Kyphi was burned in the evening to honour Ra and the Pyramid Texts (the world's oldest religious text) confirmed that the pharaoh would be able to enjoy Kyphi incense in the afterlife. However, Kyphi incense was not only prized for its aroma, it was thought to enhance meditation, aid sleep, and has been claimed to cause vivid dreams. Furthermore, it was an antiseptic and an antidote for a number of different poisons. The Greek physician Dioscorides recorded one recipe for Kyphi incense in his book "Materia Medica" and Manetho reputedly composed a book named "Preparation of Kyphi Recipes", but unfortunately no copies of this book have ever been found. There are a number of different recipes recorded in inscriptions (for example in the temples of Edfu and Philae) and on papyrus (such as the Ebers Papyrus) with anywhere from twelve to over fifty ingredients. The Edfu text involves the blending and aging of sixteen ingredients in a specific order over sixteen days. The incense was formed into small balls which were placed onto hot coals to release the aroma. Kemet Design Kyphi is based on these ancient recipes and has an intoxicating full-bodied aroma with a hint of sweetness and spice. It is both relaxing and refreshing and has a sensual warmth. Makko Powder
Makko powder (Tabu no ki) is derived from the bark of the Machillus Thunbergii tree. Makko can be used as a combustible base for incense ingredients as an alternative to charcoal. The traditional method of burning incense with Makko is to create a furrow (or trail) in the powder and sprinkle the incense into it. Then light the Makko and your chosen incense should smolder and smoke. Out of Stock

Hand-dipped Incense Cones

Myrrh Frankincense Myrrh and Frankincense Cedar Lotus Sandalwood Lotus and Sandalwood Jasmine Geranium

All of our hand dipped incense cones are made using only high quality fragrance oils. The only additive is pure high quality nontoxic perfume base (DPG). This is a necessary ingredient as using 100% oil makes incense which is too smokey and does not burn well. The cones and sticks are submerged until all of the oil has been absorbed, rather than being temporarily dipped, or sprayed with oil. As a result the scent is more powerful and long-lasting. Finished cones really do smell good enough to eat, although we advise that you resist this temptation! Cones are packaged in lovely gold organza bags The sweet and spicy aroma of myrrh makes any room smell inviting. Frankincense incense has a crisp sweet and slightly astringent aroma which can easily dispel other unwanted aromas and is thought to aid concentration. Myrrh and Frankincense is a classic combination guaranteed to make any room smell both fresh and warm. Cedar has a fresh, clean, woody aroma which is perfect for dispelling tobacco smoke and other unwanted aromas. Lotus incense has a sweet and light floral aroma. This scent was closely associated with the god Nefertum. Sandalwood has a sweet woody aroma which is both warm and inviting. The sweetness of lotus blends perfectly with the warm woody aroma of sandalwood to create a relaxing and uplifting scent. Jasmine has a heady floral and woody aroma with a hint of tea. It was a favourite of Cleopatra. Geranium incense is floral, fresh and sweet. It is both uplifting and relaxing.
