SECTION 6 DRAINAGE WORKS

6.1

General Drainage work in this section shall consist of sanitary drainage sewerage and surface water drainage works. Sanitary and sewerage work shall be carried out by plumbers registered with the Sewerage Department or by Contractors approved by the Sewerage Department. In cases where the sanitary or sewerage work is not designed by the employer's officers, the professional engineer whose name appears on the approved Sanitary or Sewerage Plan shall be fully responsible for the supervision and construction of the sanitary or sewerage work based on the approved plan. Prior permission for the opening up of a public road to lay sewer and/or pumping main along/across public road, foothpath, etc. shall also be obtained from the Land Transport Authority and the Traffic Police. The sewerage work shall be executed in accordance with the conditions stipulated by the Land Transport Authority and the Traffic Police.

6.2

Sanitary Drainage System 6.2.1 Regulations The design, supply, execution, testing and maintenance of all sanitary drainage systems shall comply fully with but not limited to the following Act, regulations and code of practice, including all subsequent amendments: (a) (b) (c) The Water Pollution Control and Drainage Act, 1985. The Sanitary Plumbing and Drainage system regulations, 1984. Code of Practice on Sanitary Plumbing and Drainage System issued by the Ministry of the Environment.

6.3

Sewerage System 6.3.1 Standard Specification In so far as it is relevant and to the extent that it is not overriden by the specifications given in the tender/contract documents and drawings, sewerage work shall be constructed, completed and tested in accordance with the current Standard Specification for Sewerage Work issued by the Ministry of the Environment, Sewerage Procedures and Requirements for Planning Approval, Building Plan Approval and Sewerage Plan Approval issued by the Ministry of the Environment.

6.4

Surface Water Drainage System 6.4.1 Regulations The design, supply, execution, testing and maintenance of all surface water drainage systems shall comply fully with but not limited to the following Act, regulations and code of practice, including all subsequent amendments:

The Water Pollution Control and Drainage Act, 1985. The Surface Water Drainage Regulations, 1985 and Code of Practice on Surface Water Drainage issued by the Drainage Department of the Ministry of the Environment under regulation 3 of the Surface Water Drainage Regulations, 1985.

In cases where the surface water drainage work is not designed by the employer's officers, the professional engineer whose name appears on the approved Drainage Plan shall be fully responsible for the supervision and construction of the surface water drainage work based on the approved plan.

6.4.2
