The software standards category I chose was Certified Software Tester Certification. This certification is designed for Information Technologies, and is very strict in its regulations and prerequisites. According to the Software Certifications website; CSTE certification is designated to indicate a level of professional competence in the practices and principles of quality control in the Internet Technology profession (Quality Assurance Institute, 2011). The prerequisites for this certification are fairly strict. This is a direct quote from (Quality Assurance Institute, 2011) on the prerequisites for the certification program. To qualify for candidacy, each applicant must meet one of four prerequisites: 1. A 4 year degree from an accredited college-level institution and 2 years experience in the information services field 2. A 3 year degree from an accredited college-level institution and 3 years experience in the information services field 3. A 2 year degree from an accredited college-level institution and 4 years experience in the information services field 4. Six years experience in the information services field AND Are working, or have worked at any time within the prior 18 months, in the field within covered by the certification designation

On the iACT website, there are 10 categories of study that the person interested must prove proficient in before they can take the certification test. This is a list of the categories and

The only ways to take the exams for this certification are either online through the Prometric web site at http://www.prometric.com/SC/default.htm or schedule a paper test if you live in one of the following countries: India, Brazil, China, or Sri Lanka (Certifications, 2010). The fees for this certification are between $350 and $420, depending on whether you want the CBOK book and cd, or just the PDF file. There is also a $100 retesting fee if you score below 75% the first time you take it (Quality Assurance Institute, 2011) I would like to see more paper testing offered in more locations; not everyone has access to online testing, and more people could be certified in a more formal classroom setting.
