CHAPTER IV RESULT AND DISCUSSION

A. Result Initial height 0,4cm Second height 0,5cm Last Height 0,6cm

B. Discussion The purpose of this observation is to see the influence of gravitropism into plants growth. Tropism is a growth response between a plant and an external stimulus. The stimulus could be weather, touch, time, gravity or light. A positive response is indicated by growth toward a stimulus and a negative response is indicated by growth away from the stimulus. According to the step in our observation, we cut the head of dandelion (although it is not true dandelion) because this flower stalks are strongly negatively gravitropic up to the time the inflorescence opens. Thereafter they are weakly negatively gravitropic and may even be diagravitropic during the stage when the inflorescence closes up and the yellow corolla tubes wither and fall off. Following this closed head stage there is a renewed surge of growth just prior to the formation of the fruiting head or clock, as it is sometimes called, when, again, the scape is strongly negatively gravitropic. According to the result, after we put the dandelions horizontally, the height is increase from 0,4;0,5;until 0,6. The stem did not grow horizontally, but oppositely. It means that the plant has negative response because growth away from stimulus. These all happen because typically roots grow down into the ground, and stem and leaves grow up above the ground. If one were to place on its side, it would begin to bend in an upright position. This occurs because of the plant hormone also called auxin that plays a part in gravitropism. When the plant is laid on its side, the auxin

concentration increases along the lower sides of the roots and stems of the plant. The auxin stimulates cell elongated on the stem which makes the stem bend up toward the sky. The auxin prohibits cell elongation in the roots which causes the roots to bend down into the soil. Gravitropism allows the plant to respond to gravity no matter what position the plant is in. That is why, our stems plants still grow vertically, not allows to horizontally.

CHAPTER V CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

A. Conclusion Plants hormone, called auxin is the hormone which influence to gravitropism, Gravitropism allows the plant to respond to gravity no matter what position the plant is in. B. Suggestion 1. Suggestion For Assistant Hopefully the assistant could develop the material which they brought in order apprentice could understand the work procedure and basic theory in observation. 2. Suggestion for Laboratory Hopefully laboratory could provides the tool and material for observation completely to make the practicum easier and comfortable 3. Suggestion for apprentice Hopefully the apprentice could build the teamwork with their partner in practicum
