ncient Judaism held in highest regard those figures in its tradition who were willing to challenge God. This was particularly characteristic of the two patriarchs most highly esteemed, Abraham and Moses. This boldness in addressing God is present in todays story from Genesis, when Abraham attempts to save the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. This resonates with the Gospel passagethe Lords Prayersince it was truly bold of Jesus to address the Lord God as Abba. Our familiarity with this prayer most likely makes us unaware of this. The boldness of Abraham, Moses, and Jesus in addressing God is an expression of a deep, intimate relationship. We tend to argue most heatedly with and speak most tenderly to those whom we love the most. This very human trait is what generates the wide variety of emotions expressed toward God throughout the psalms. Hopefully our own relationship with God is intimate enough that we dont only come asking for favors or with heads bowed meekly, but also ready to question and argue, to praise joyfully, and to embrace our relationship with God lovingly.

Respect Life
On October 23rd, I went and did my last abortions on just a few patients. And I knew it would be the last day. And that evening, I said No to money and Yes to God. The next day I went down to church and confessed with my mouth that Jesus was Lord. Then, on the way out of church, I saw this blue brochure for a crisis pregnancy center. I just looked at it and kind of felt that this was what I should be involved with. The next day I called up the center and told them I was a doctor in Atlanta and had done many, many thousands of abortions, and that I came to Christ the day before and now wanted to do everything to save babies instead of take their lives. Dr. Joseph Randall.

HELP CHILD VICTIMS

Once again, St. Francis Borgia Parish will provide school supplies for children who are victims of sexual abuse. Fr. Joe Mulcrone collects these supplies and donates all of them to the Chicago Children's Advocacy Center, 1240 S. Damen, Chicago. Each year, this Center handles over 2,000 reported cases of child sexual abuse. Many of these children cannot return to their homes; the site of their suffering. So, they need us to help them go back to school with needed supplies. The list for the supplies is located at the back of the church (East & West gathering Spaces), from the Rectory Office, or the Catholic Office of the Deaf: 312-534-7899, cathdeafch@archchicago.org

From the Pastors Desk

Pray inwardly, Though you sense nothing Though you see nothing Though you think you can achieve nothing For in dryness and in barrenness In sickness and in feebleness Then is your prayer completely pleasing to me Though it seems to give you little pleasure And so all your living is prayer in my eyes. Todays liturgy presents Abrahams beautiful prayer, interceding for the residents of Sodom and Gomorrah. According to this story, we can understand the difference between prayers, which we recite from our memories, and prayers, which are conversations with God. Abraham repeats the same request six times, each time more courageously, lowering the number of the innocent, which he tried to find in the threatened cities. This was not a recited prayer, but a conversation with God. Jesus prayed the same way. The Apostles, seeing Him, asked Him to teach them how to talk with the Father. As Jesus taught them the Our Father, He emphasized the simplicity of the prayer. He wanted them, just as Abraham, to pray with a few words and with much confidence and intensity to get what they asked for. Life decides on the contents of our prayer. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations where from morning until night, at home and in church, on the streets and in the stores, at work and at rest, we repeat the same request: Father, Thy will be done. This is an adaptation for our will and the Fathers will. In other situations, when a person feels guilty, he implores through prayer: Father, forgive us our trespasses. This prayer repeated daily leads a person to confess his sins, to repent, and to amend his life. In another situation, when the person is tempted to sin, the heart calls: Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. This prayer helps us to avoid sin. Prayer should be genuine because only then, it brings us closer to God and leads us to meet with Him. Praying in this way, a person speaks less and listens more to God. Only this type of a prayer forms a persons heart, transforms him, and he transforms the world. God Bless! Fr. Rich

Z biurka Ks. Proboszcza

Liturgia sowa dzisiejszej niedzieli przedstawia pikn modlitw Abrahama wstawiajcego si za mieszkacami Sodomy i Gomory. W oparciu o ten tekst mona zrozumie rnic midzy modlitw a pacierzem. Pacierz skada si zwielu tekstw pobonych, ktre trzeba odrecytowa. Modlitwa natomiast to powana rozmowa z Bogiem na cile okrelony temat. Abraham waciwie powtarza sze razy t sam prob coraz odwaniej, zmniejszajc liczb sprawiedliwych, ktrych chcia szuka w zagroonych miastach. Taka modlitwa wzywa do wysiku, by z okazj do grzechu zerwa, by jeszcze ilej wsppracowaz Bogiem. Modlitwa powinna by autentyczna, bo tylko wtedy zblia ona do Boga, prowadzi do spotkania z Nim. Czowiek wwczas way kade sowo i znacznie wicej sucha ni mwi. Tylko taka modlitwa ksztatuje ludzkie serce, tylko taka jest twrcza. Tylko taka modlitwa przemienia czowieka, a czowiek przemienia wiat.
