6.3 Snowplough Bracket
6.3.1 Introduction
The snow plough bracket is attached to the AAR bracket as shown below
Structure Analysed
Only the connection angles and fasteners are analysed in this report
Loading Also see page 5.7-1
The applied loads to the bracket are determined using forced displacements from the FEM
and pressure applied to the FLE lower panel
The method of analysis is given in Ref [40]

The frame is idealised on a plane through the hinge point on a line angled through the attachment bolts
The height of the frame is pessimistically assumed as the vertical offset to the first attachment bolt

6.3.10-1
6.3.10 Conclusions
Spanwise Deflection = 2.03 mm
Maximum Chordwise Deflections = 0.1 mm
(1) The chordwise loads are negligible compared to the spanwise loading
(2) The stress levels are dominated by the spanwise loading
(3) The stress levels are based on the portal frame idealisation shown page 6.3.2-4
Note: The 64.8 arm is valid for the deflection in the inboard sense
The arm is shorter for outboard deflections since the connection angles abut with
the flange of the AAR bracket
The shorter arm makes the structure stiffer, then the applied loads higher
(4) The spanwise element of the portal frame is based on the stiffness of the hinge idealised with a rectangular
cross section - see page 6.3.2-1
Comments
(1) The spanwise deflection of 2.03 mm seems excessive given the close proximity of panels either side
attached to buttstraps that prevent relative spanwise movement
(2) The vertical displacements of the nodes around bolts 1-4 seem excessive
Ref page 3.3-7 shows the maximum relative vertical displacement = 5.0 mm
(3) Should the spanwise displacements be the difference between the FLE side and the Cover side
not just the average of the displacements on the cover side
The relative displacements around bolts 1 -4 are 5.0 mm in the Z direction
see page 3.3-7 (Geometry sheet)
