PREAMBLES 1. 1.1 Drawings Provided by the Contractor The Contractor will receive from the Engineer the drawings listed hereof. The Contractor shall be solely responsible for providing all sub-contractors, whether nominated or otherwise, with sufficient copies of all relevant drawings in order that they can complete their work within the approved construction programme under Clause 8.3 of the Conditions of Contract. 2. Shop Drawings and Samples The term "Shop Drawings" as used in the Contract Documents includes fabrication, erection, layout and setting drawings; manufacturer's standard drawings; schedules; descriptive literature, illustrations, catalogues and brochures; performance and test data; wiring and control diagrams; and other drawings and descriptive data pertaining to materials, equipment, piping, duct and conduit systems, and methods of construction as required to show that materials, equipment, or systems, and position thereof, conform to the Contract Documents. The term "manufactured" as used in the Contract applies to standard units usually mass produced. The term "fabricated" as used in the Contract Documents means items specifically assembled or made out of selected materials to meet individual design requirements. Shop drawings shall establish actual detail of all manufactured or fabricated items, indicate proper relation to adjoining work, amplify design details of mechanical and electrical equipment in proper relation to physical spaces on the structure, and incorporate minor changes of design or construction to suit actual conditions. All MEP drawings must be coloured. The term "samples" as used in the Contract Documents includes natural materials, fabricated items, equipment, devices, appliances, or parts thereof as specified, and other samples as may be required by the Engineer to determine whether kind, quality, construction, workmanship, finish, colour, and other characteristics of materials conform to requirements of the Contract Documents. Samples shall establish kind, quality and other required characteristics of various parts of the Works and all work shall be in accordance with the accepted samples. Within fourteen (14) days after signing the Contract the Contractor shall submit to the Engineer a schedule for the submittal of shop drawings and samples. The schedule shall indicate the dates on which the Contractor intends to submit shop drawings and samples for each of the various items of work for the Engineers review. The schedule shall be on the requirement that all shop drawings and samples are to be submitted for review by the Engineer within one (1) month after commencement of the shop drawing review period. The schedule shall allow approximately twenty (20) working days for the Engineer's review and additional time for resubmission of shop drawings and samples which may be unacceptable; however, the Contractor shall recognise that the time required for the Engineer's review may vary depending upon the quantity of material submitted at any one time and the complexity of the shop drawing(s). At the time that the schedule is submitted, the Contractor shall also submit for review his proposed format for the transmittal of shop drawings and samples and an explanation of his system for identifying shop drawings and samples.

2. Shop Drawings and Samples (Contd) The Contractor shall submit shop drawings and samples at his own cost in accordance with the agreed Schedule for Submission of shop drawings and samples and with such promptness as to cause no delay in his own work or in that of any other Contractor or Sub-Contractor. The Contractor shall transmit shop drawings and samples to places in the Sultanate of Oman designated by the Engineer and is responsible for all costs, including air courier, shipping or postal charges. No extensions of time will be granted because of failure to have shop drawings and samples submitted in ample time to allow for processing. Sub-Contractors shall submit shop drawings and samples through the Contractor. Shop drawings and samples shall be properly identified with the name of the Project, the Contractor, the Sub-Contractor, and the date. Each lot submitted shall be accompanied by an approved transmittal form referring to the name of the Project, to the number of the specification section, and to the paragraph or Clause number when applicable, for identification of each item. Shop drawings for each section of the Works shall be numbered consecutively and the numbering system shall be retained throughout all revisions in accordance with the Engineers system. Each shop drawing and sample shall have a clear space for the stamps of the Contractor and the Engineer. Where clear space is not available on samples, the Contractor shall submit with tags or stickers attached thereto. The Contractor shall submit one (1) Soft copy in PDF and DWG format and three (3) prints of each drawing to the Engineer, including fabrication, erection, layout and setting out drawings, and such other drawings as required under the various sections of the specifications until final acceptance is obtained. The Contractor shall also submit three (3) copies of manufacturer's descriptive data for materials, equipment and fixtures, including catalogue sheets showing dimensions, performance characteristics and capacities; wiring diagrams and controls; schedules; and other pertinent information as required. In cases where a considerable range of colour, graining, texture or other characteristics may be anticipated in finished products, a sufficient number of samples of the specified materials shall be furnished to the Engineer to indicate the full range of such characteristics which will be present in the finished products; any such products delivered or erected without submittal and acceptance of full range samples shall be subject to rejection. Except for range samples, and unless otherwise called for in the various sections of the specifications or specifically requested by the Engineer before submittals, samples shall be submitted in triplicate. All samples shall be marked, tagged, or otherwise properly identified with the name of the Contractor, the name of the Project, the purpose for which the samples are submitted, and the date and shall be accompanied by a letter of transmittal containing similar information, together with the specification section number for identification of each item. Samples of materials which are generally furnished in containers bearing the manufacturer's descriptive labels and printed application instructions shall, if not submitted in the standard containers, be supplied with such labels and application instructions.

Shop Drawings and Samples (Contd) Shop drawings and samples shall bear the Contractor's stamp certifying they have been co-ordinated and checked by the Contractor for completeness and compliance with the Contract Documents and they are approved by the Contractor. Submissions which, in the Engineer's opinion, are incomplete, contain numerous errors, or have not been checked, or have only been checked superficially, will be returned for resubmission. Proposed deviations from the Contract Documents shall be clearly noted on the submittals. The Contractor shall be solely responsible for any quantities and dimensions which may be shown on the submittals. Shop drawings shall show in detail, materials, dimensions, thicknesses, assembly, attachments, relationship to adjoining work, and all other pertinent data and information. In checking shop drawings, the Contractor shall verify all dimensions and field conditions and shall check and coordinate the shop drawings of any section or trade with the requirements of other sections or trades as related thereto, as required for proper and complete installation or the Works. Except for finish, colour and other aesthetic matters, left to the Engineer's decision by the Contract Documents, the Engineer's review of shop drawings and samples is for general conformance with the design concept and information given in the Contract Documents and shall not relieve the Contractor from responsibility for any deviations from the requirements of the Contract Documents. The Engineer's review shall not be construed as a complete check nor shall it relieve the Contractor, Sub-Contractor, manufacturer, fabricator or supplier from responsibility for any deficiency or errors that may exist in any shop drawings or any departures or deviations from the requirements of the Contract Documents or from the necessity of furnishing any work required by the Contract Documents, which may have been omitted on the shop drawings. The Engineer's review of a separate item shall not be deemed to indicate review of the assembly in which it functions. The Engineer will review shop drawings and samples within a maximum period of Twenty (20) working days for each revision and will return them to the Contractor with the Engineer's stamp applied thereto. No acceptance or approval of shop drawings or samples, nor any indication or request marked by the Engineer on any shop drawing or sample, shall constitute an authorisation for any increase in the Contract Sum or Contract time. Notations by the Engineer which increase Contract cost or time of completion shall be brought to the Engineer's attention before proceeding with the Works, otherwise any claim regarding this subject matter will not be considered. Each submittal will be returned to the Contractor stamped or marked by the Engineer.

Composite Coordination Drawings The Contractor shall also submit composite coordination drawings showing the locations and sizes of the mechanical, electrical and public health work in relation to the structural and architectural work for coordination purposes. The composite coordination shop drawings shall be in sufficient detail to show overall dimensions of ductwork, piping, conduit, equipment, fixtures, structural members and related architectural features, and shall show clearances between such works. Co-ordination drawings shall be submitted to the Engineer in the same manner and quantity as for shop drawings. In particular the Contractor will conform to the following requirements: (a) The Contractor shall prepare a dimensioned layout and required sections of all ductwork, pipe work and conduits for use as a coordination drawing and the distribution to Sub-Contractors whose work is affected. The Contractor shall schedule and conduct a coordination meeting to be attended by all Sub-Contractors whose work is affected. The Contractor shall notify the Engineer and invite to join such meetings. Each Sub-Contractor involved shall indicate the extent of his work on the reproducible original coordination drawings. Following the co-ordination of the work, each Sub-contractor shall indicate his approval on the reproducible original co-ordination drawings by signing such drawings. The Contractor shall then distribute a copy of the co-ordination drawings to each of the Sub-Contractors for their respective use. The Contractor shall submit individual Shop Drawings following the distribution of the coordination drawings and shall bear a stamp indicating that the work has been co-ordinated with other trades. Each change/Modification is required to be approved by the Engineer & Employer.

The Contractor shall prepare composite co-ordination drawings and installation layouts, when required, to depict proposed solutions for tight site conditions. The composite drawings and installation layouts shall be co-ordinated on the site by the Contractor and his Sub-contractors for proper relationship to the work of all other trades, based on site conditions. 4. Documents at Site and Record Drawings As the work progresses the Contractor, and the Sub-Contractor for each trade or division of the work, under the direction of the Contractor, shall keep a complete and accurate record of all changes or deviations from the Contract Documents and shop drawings, indicating the work as actually installed. All such changes shall be neatly and correctly shown on blackline prints of the drawings affected, or in a master copy of the specifications as the case may be, with appropriate supplementary notes. This record set of drawings, shop drawings and specifications shall be kept at the job site for inspection by the Engineer.

Documents at Site and Record Drawings (Contd) The above records shall be arranged in order, in accordance with the various sections of the specifications, and shall be properly indexed. At the completion of the work the Contractor and each Sub-Contractor shall transfer the recorded changes indicated on the record set to CD in DWG/PDF format to the Employer at the Contractor's expense and shall certify by endorsement thereof, that each of the marked up transparencies of the drawings and specifications is complete and accurate. Drawings shall be marked "Record Drawings of the Work As Built". Prior to the issuance of the Taking Over Certificate by the Engineer, and as a condition to acceptance of the work, each Sub-contractor shall deliver the recorded transparencies and specifications arranged in proper order, indexed and endorsed as hereinbefore specified, to the Contractor, and the Contractor shall assemble these records for all divisions of the work, review them for completeness and then submit them to the Engineer in suitable transfer cases, indexed and marked for each division of the work. The Engineer may withhold the Taking Over Certificate if the drawings are not satisfactorily completed.
