Why Traffic Matters
• Every year, 1.2 M people die in traffic fatalities. That is 3,242 deaths
per day. 1
• Every year, motor vehicles add over 900 M tons of carbon dioxide
to the air. It is estimated that 80,0000 people a year die from
2
adverse affects of air pollution.
• [3]

• Every year, the global population increases by approximately

3
77,047,900 people.
Cost of Congestion
• Every year, developed nations loose billions of dollars because of
traffic congestion. For example, in 2006, the estimated cost of
4
congestion in the United States was roughly $150 B.

Future Traffic Technology
• Below ground and above road freight transport alternatives. For example,
underground tube transport.
• Automated road-use tracking and tolling
• Auto-drive freeways
• Optimal route distribution
• Dual mode vehicles with cars
• Advanced solar, wind motors
• Speed management
• Multi-function vehicles (road/air/water)
• Vehicle exterior and mechanical transformation (size, fuel)
• We propose to partner with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
(MIT) to develop systems that incorporate the best transportation
management systems with the best urban planning practices:
– MIT Intelligent Transportation Systems Program (DynaMIT)
– Advanced Traveler Information System (ATIS)
– Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS)
– Traffic Management Center (TMC)
