ABSTRACT
OBJECTIVE: Thermistors are special solid temperature sensors that behave like temperature sensitive electrical resistors. No surprise that their name is a contraction of "thermal" and "resistor. They are very small and are used inside many devices as temperature sensing and correction devices as well as in speciality temperature sensing probes used for science and industry. The main objective of this project is to indicate temperature by using thermistor.

INTRODUCTION: A thermistor is a type of resistor whose resistance varies significantly (more than in standard resistors) with temperature. Thermistors differ from resistance temperature detectors (RTD) in that the material used in a thermistor is generally a ceramic or polymer, while RTDs use pure metals. A thermistor has got negative temperature coefficient which is made use of in constructing different types of circuits depending upon requirement.

PROJECT DESCRIPITION: A NTC thermistor is one in which the zero-power resistance decreases with an increase in temperature. A PTC thermistor is one in which the zero-power resistance increases with an increase in temperature To implement a temperature indicator practically using a thermistor, we need a transformer(15-0-15), 300ma as supply to the main circuit. The supply is then carried away to the rectifier circuit for rectification. Having past with the rectification the regulator circuit is encountered with the two regulators 7812 and 7912 positive and negative regulators respectively. When the supply to the circuit is ready as per requirements the NTC Thermistor is exposed to external change in temperature in its surroundings. Due to the negative temperature coefficient in the thermistor, its resistance changes accordingly. For instance here the thermistor voltage for a certain temperature Y is pre recorded which is called Reference voltage(Vref). And when the thermistor voltage(Vt) reaches the point Y when exposed to some external change in temperature the comparator(LM324N) takes action, compares both the voltages(thermistor and reference) and helps us let know the temperature at a point. This procedure can be practiced for any temperature. While a thermistor is capable of measuring temperatures upto 300 degress.

CONCLUSION: Through this very method we can observe how a thermistor respond to very slight changes in temperature and thus measuring temperatures at different points.
