COURSE CODE: LPN 210 COURSE TITLE: COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING COURSE CREDIT: 3 units (lecture) / 6 units (RLE) TOTAL HOURS: 54 (lecture) + 108 (laboratory) = 162 COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course deals with health programs, services and strategies of the Department of Health; concepts, philosophy, goals and objectives of Community Health Nursing; and the basic roles, functions and responsibilities of the community health nurse. It also includes care of clients with noncommunicable and communicable diseases.

II.

COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the end of the course, the student will be able to: 1. Utilizes the nursing process in the care of individuals, families and communities. 2. Utilizes leadership and management process as an important tool of the health care provider in varied health care settings. 3. Communicates effectively with clients, families, communities and other members of health care. 4. Integrate research (COPAR) and uses research findings to improve health care in the community. 5. Demonstrates appropriate attitudes/behaviors as a model health professional. 6. Implements the concepts, principles and values of primary health care as health care provider. 7. Participates in the implementation of DOH health programs, services and strategies. 8. Participates in activities related to the prevention and control of communicable diseases. 9. Assumes responsibility for personal and professional development.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS Assignments will not be accepted more than one week late. 10 points will be deducted from the earned grade of a late assignment. Overall performance on the actual field duty, journals, research works, assignments, quizzes and practical applications will serve as a laboratory grade Lecture quiz, assignments, recitation, attendance, projects and major exams is separated to laboratory Term grade: Lecture Average quizzes = 40% Class standing = 10% Major exam = 50% Laboratory Practical exercise = 40% Class standing = 10% Major exam = 50%

Term grade= 50% lecture grade + 50% laboratory grade Final grade= 50% (prelim, midterm, pre-final) + 50% (final)
